You seem to know zilch about survival. It is hard, but it isn't hellfire.

Well i found out that picking up loot and moving it causes it to despawn when server restarts.
I moved all the shoes and things out on the porch and new stuff spawned... incluuuuuuding shoes and a holosight
But some food was there too.
So I wonder if picking up trash and throwing it in the forest will help the servers spawn new, sensible gear.
Weird.
Anyhow, despite finding food I died because I got swarmed by 4 zombies at once that came out of nowhere all at once.
Weirdest update ever.
I added two photos
LC1: Two pairs of shoes spawn on one loot spawn
LC2: These four pics were taken in one log cabin in one server. 10 pairs of shoes spawning?
And beyond that, two crossbow holosights.
Something is definitely wrong with the loot tables
Hase: I'm not sure they're looted. They might spawn that way. I've found some that had bandages but missing a syringe??
Well I just spawned on the same server and there was no new loot. Since I'm dying of hunger, I decided to pick up all the shoes, put them out on the porch along with the other items in the log cabin, planning to log in again later to see if there is any new loot at all.
The crazy thing is, I was just moving from the outside shed attached to the log cabin to the porch, and suddenly got swarmed by 4 zombies at once???
It was hard to fight them off and I lost a lot of blood, and am now dying of starvation...
Can't heal because I have no food.
-----
EDIT: Another thing, I took another pic. This time, of the shed shelf. A PU-scope spawned on top of a chemlight on top of a fish-hook
Hope this info helps a little
Yes, but I didn't just mean "no loot", which was weird too. But for example way too many first aid kits.
Also, I'm finding mainly weapons cleaning kits. Now, obviously, the players are leaving these items lying around because they're useless, but the strange thing is it's always the same items lying around. Books and weapon cleaning kits.
In my opinion, the tables are totally off.
Hi Andy,
I have a feeling it happens when running through doorframes and up stairs and ladders.
Just what I observed just now.
Hard to play the game though with the current loot and hunger issues =o(
EDIT: Scratch that. It also happens out on the open field
Yup. Movement is way more clunky and I lost control of it quite frequently. Damn scary, it happened to me once at the top of the red farmers shed, the one with the scaffolding at the top.
I also killed two zombies with a single fireaxe hit a few days ago. Have it on video
What you say about apples is wrong. THe fact though is that the calorie factor is totally off.
Yesterday, I spent three hours picking and eating (was constantly stuffed) apples and went from orange hunger to dark green energised. Never reached light green despite having eaten 90 apples in three hours. Which is roughly as much as three McDonalds super-size meals.
I really don't get why they made fruit so ridiculously weak.
Fact is, anybody that is "starving" will make it through the whole day without dying of starvation from only one apple. Eating 30 apples is enough to give a bricklayer the energy he needs for one day.
Euphoria is very much "just a troll". I periodically see him in issues like these talking down on other players and calling them noobs. Wish there was an ignore list for the bugtracker.. Consider yourself ignored, "kid" -.-
Anyhow, I spawned in, ran one mile (I'm not exaggerating!) and went from yellow hungry to red hungry. Luckily I found a can of peaches. Ran another mile. Hunger in the orange.
Spent the next 3 hours picking and eating almost 90 apples. Energised is still not in the bright green, I can't find any other food though and am too chicken to move to the next town.
90 apples equals roughly 5.000 calories, by the way. That's like 3 super size McDonald's meals.
What is it with you devs that you hate fruit and vegetables so much?
Anyhow, I wouldn't mind "survival mechanics" in a game like this
BUT!!!
I can't hunt for food either, since there is zero loot to be found.
After a fast-paced SHTF scenario like a pandemic, there would be NO SHORTAGE of knives to be found in kitchens! An agricultural place like Chernarous would have NO SHORTAGE of rope or burlap sacks!
And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE can we do the survival game tweaking at the end when the game is extensively tested and ready to move past the Alpha phase? NOT during Alpha and NOT during experimental!
There should be a "chance" of finding a gun WITHOUT it's mag.
I really don't get what the point is with this. Having to travel through Chernarus to pair up a gun with a corresponding mag with the limited inventory that you have at your disposal... when there's guns like the Mosin and the SKS with inbuilt magazine systems.
Just let the more simple guns spawn with an empty mag, PLEASE
No he's right. The fruit and vegetable is definitely too low.
Werneq, your stats prove it.
A full Zucchini has 51 energy and a can of peaches 1359?
Meaning you'd have to eat 70 Zucchinis to get to where a can of peaches is. Surreal.
Bananas are just as bad. You can eat three bananas and still be "hungry"
In real-life, if you eat three Zucchinis, you're more than just "stuffed", you're gonna puke the stuff up.
The entire food system needs tweaking. You also shouldn't be able to eat raw rice or potatos.
Interesting. I always get this with hotbar item #3, not item #0
I personally don't think the maximum FOV is problematic. I think it's the minimum FOV that is a huge issue, it allows you to see over walls.
Similar thing happening here
http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=16645
Though you are right to a certain extent, you are over-exaggerating some things.
Unless you have a bug. Because even if I run full speed in DayZ for an hour I won't "die of hunger", let alone if I camp on a sniper hill somewhere.
"No matter how warmly I dress, I will always die of hypothermia."
> There is something seriously wrong with the weather update. Let nobody tell you otherwise. To avoid this, try playing on vilayer servers for now (filter for vilayer in server list)
As concerns food or water, you need more of it the more you move around. Somewhat realistic isn't it? But if you only had to eat a meal every 24 ingame hours, the game would have no survival feeling at all. On the other hand, it irks me that when you fresh-spawn, you have to eat 8 pounds of food before you go from "hungry" to "energized". Unless you eat fresh fruit and veg. In that case it is more like 16 pounds......
"In real life, I would have to run in the rain for about 15 minutes to be completely soaked through, but in DayZ this happens in 5 seconds of rain. Unrealistic."
> It's not "unrealistic", it's "broken". I've been on servers with a drizzle and got soaked within seconds. I'm sure they haven't got the fine tuning right on this one. Another thing I find stupid is that if you're running around in the rain on a warm day, it says "I am rapidly cooling off" when soaked. You don't rapidly cool off in the tropic rain. I've lived there for 6 years.
"If I fall off a roof in real life, I could sprain an ankle, maybe break a leg. In DayZ I'd be dead. Unrealistic."
> Didn't you know?? All the survivors in DayZ survived the plague because they all suffer from brittle-bone-disease. That particular genome causes us to be immune to the pandemic. Kidding. It's super over-the-top.
Anyhow, though I somewhat disagree on some points, thumbs up... since generally, the game is not realistic enough. A few more points I might add are
- restricted movement
- restricted melee combat
- restricted inventory
Confirmed. Fresh spawned yesterday morning and spent nearly two hours on an empty, fresh started server, visiting four police stations. The only weapon I ever found was a baseball bat. Also, one pack of .45 ACP ammo.
Other than that, absolutely nothing useful. It's like they had been picked dry, but as I said, I observed the server and was alone the full two hours. I also am 100% sure the server had started when I joined in because I was in before fighting a zombie, server ended, I looked in a building I was just in and found a weapon I needed.
Police stations have been nerfed to the point that they are pointless.
Police cars are mega rare. I have found one single police car since the "hotfix"
@Captain Hector: in real life, mission critical items like matches, knives, do not take up as much or even twice as much inventory space as beans.
If you pack your bag sensible enough (nobody would ever take more than three cans of beans on the trail), then weight is not as critical as volume in any case, and yes, if you've been hunting, you will in fact carry 50 pounds of animal meat in a large container.
If you talk about facts, how about this for a fact:
I've done the experiment to see how much fits in a child briefcase. And in my experiment, the contents corresponded to a DayZ mountain backpack.
Obviously, I didn't pack the back with soda-cans, but a mix of different items you would carry on the trail, including a spare pistol and AK-magazines. Fact is, even an AK mag doesn't take up more volume than a can of beans since it is flat, but long.
Voted down.
Until they actually make a sensible, real-to-life inventory system, I am all for ANY exploits that expand inventory space.
Disagree. Zombies shouldn't attack people spawning in, period.
I've had situations where a server crashed, I spawned back in to any old server, it took ages for me to gain control and I was being wacked by zombies left and right. Ruined my upper gear completely and forced me to open fire, drawing more zombies while I was bleeding out.
Just make players invisible to zombies for the first 10 seconds of a server join.
This has been reported often. Your character is reset when you join a server too fast. If you look for this type of bug on this bug-tracking platform, you'll find out how to avoid it.
Like wait for your server time to change by a minute after restart (for example from 15:00 to 15:01) then you're on the safe side.
HAHAHA not laughing about you my friend. Just the fools who told me that the weather mechanic wasn't broken since the hotfix.
The whole thing is soooooo broken.
EDIT: Please make screenshots the next time, or even better, a video.
Yes, indeed, this is correct.
I just joined a vilayer server and the temperature seemed realistic enough.
EDIT: Tried a second one, it was also fine.
No. At least I don't have a clue what he's talking about.
I don't seem to get this one anymore. Haven't had it since 0.51 at least!
I think you could have avoided the bug by "spawning in" to the server with the AK in your hands and Mosin on back.
Would have been good to know more about the bug.
Thanks for your feedback, though!
Thanks for the info. It seems that spawning with the PU-scope in hands is bugged, in that case.
How do you fix your issue, when you get it?
I swear I just made this fireplace kit. I did not light it. I'll make a new video to prove it if you like.
Yes, even unlit.
One other solution is to finally start working on a decent melee system. Really, devs, this can't be more than a placeholder.
Sidestrafing and one type of strike, that's it?
And most melee weapons are pointless! Even the classic modern melee weapon, the baseball bat.
Well whatever the case, this issue is "resolved" for me for now since I've switched to only playing on Vilayer servers. I don't intend on getting hypothermia because of this.
I really do wonder if the developers have taken any note of this, since they are being awefully quiet, although this topic is being heavily discussed on reddit and the forum and also here!
Over two weeks now and still no reponse from the developers? I'm starting to wonder if the people at BI realise that fewer and fewer people are playing this game. I've never seen experimental servers as empty as they are at the moment.
Don't they notice this or do they just not care?
Bump
I'd like to see someone officially confirm this issue, please.
Could this have something to do with Fahrenheit and Celsius?
I mean what if the devs programmed the game to be in Fahrenheit and a lot of European hosts obviously think in Celsius. That would explain why we are way below sub-zero Celsius.
Doesn't explain why this doesn't effect Vilayer servers apparently. Also doesn't explain why I froze half to death on my video despite not seeing my breath..
(also: I just wanted to bump this issue ^^)
@rudder
Your video is not what this issue reported here is about. You are seemingly wearing some ruined or badly damaged clothes in the video and getting a "slowly cooling down" message
What we here are talking about is wearing fully pristine gorka everything, vest, face-mask and even boots and we get the "promptly cooling down" message in all servers except Vilayer servers.
At least I don't get this crap in Vilayer servers (not a single one till now and I've tested a dozen)
I didn't say it was a fix but I thought it was a step towards finding the root cause of the issue. Sir! ;o)
I confirm that this seems to be dependent on the server GSP
Try servers from Vilayer and you shouldn't get this issue.
Thanks dreagon948 for that info and sorry for being a jerk earlier. I've been feed useless information by a bunch of skeptics that have been calling me a noob all day and I've just had it up to here!
Thanks again!
dreagon948 thanks for nothing
We are in fact talking about stable 0.49.
Experimental 0.50 is not even up yet -.-
I uploaded a video of this.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UEl7wmCPLok&feature=youtu.be
From nominal to "cold" within roughly three minutes. Middle of the day, relatively clear weather, no warm breath visible in front of my face, pristine full gear Gorka.
I don't encounter this on all servers, however. So when you get on a server where you get this issue, leave immediately and join a different one.
EDIT: Please tell me how I am supposed to add "more layers" to my gear. If you have nothing sensible to say, how about you just not add your five cents? Thank you very much.
Same here. I have added a picture as reference.
No clothes are wet. Daytime server.
After this screenshot I tried taking off all my clothes and putting them on again. No change.
It started to be this way with today's hotfix. I went from healthy to "COLD" (yellow) within less than fifteen minutes. Considering what soldiers went through at the Battle of the Bulge, this is quite humorous, if at all intended to be this way.
"Der Typ widert mich richtig an, Alter" -> same here
So how am I supposed to find out his Steam ID, silentblade?
Maybe we should make the game less anonymous during the Alpha stage!
Besides that, maybe the game needs a few more plausibility checks
Hi JStewart
how can I contact you?
I just tried to reproduce this error with the same servers to make a video, but was unable to. I am 100% certain, without the shadow of a doubt, that this is exactly what happened, however. I remember explicitally that I joined the TiG Irish 1st person server, was where my 3rd person guy was with his gear, was not able to get into 3rd person view.
100% absolutely sure that I didn't get anything confused.
This can also be exploited by people to block a freshspawn from escaping.
Happened to me yesterday.
One guy blocked me from running away by lying down on the scaffolding in the huge red tin barn. The other guy was following me and came from behind and knocked me out.
Hi Andy
I haven't been playing stable for a while, but I can tell you with a 99.9% certainty that this issue does not exist on Vilayer servers.
I really hope that helps find the actual root of the problem.
I would also like to add that the event of rain proves that the outside temperature is above 4°Celsius
Also, this bug does is not encountered on all servers.
It seems to me that this may be dependent on server settings.
Is there any way of putting people like "Nothinstrue" on ignore? His input is utterly pointless.
See video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eDSBS2Hu4I&feature=youtu.be [^]
I've been getting this since the 0.49 push to stable. When spamming LMB to hit zombies (live or dead) my weapon will often switch to the 3rd item in my hotbar. At least I noticed today it always seems to be the third item in my hotbar.
I've had this with the fire-extinguisher, fire-axe, the baseball bat and the cattle-prod. So it seems to be a general melee issue.
It doesn't seem to happen when hitting floor, walls or ceiling, but only zombies and maybe players or their bodies.
Interestingly, at one point you can see my character "stab" using the canteen. Something which is generally also not possible.
Can anybody confirm this only switches to 3rd hotbar item, please?
A friend and I noticed this repeatedly. It always seems to be item 3 in ur hotbar. If no item in hotbar, then fists.
I made a video of this, maybe it helps
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNtZc44qEx0&feature=youtu.be
Do you have these issues in 1st person view or also in 3rd person?
I ask because I have zero problems with the axe (and it sucks that this is STILL the only melee weapon that works) in 3rd person, but can't hit the zeds at all in 1st person view / hardcore servers.
Though I agree with you, I don't really think we have to make such an issue out of this. So the empty clip remains with the weapon instead of unnecessarily cluttering an entire inventory slot while it is not being used.
For me, it's fine to have mags for weapons that have exchangable magazines and clips that are basically used as magazines for weapons that don't have exchangable magazines.
Same goes for speed- and snaploaders in my opinion.
EDIT: What's far more important to me is that there is actually a point to having speedloaders and stripper clips. At the moment, you can easily drag ammo into weapons you're not wielding and they are insta-loaded. The manual reload of Mosin, SKS and revolver is also ridiculously fast in my opinion, particularly for someone wearing working gloves........
The next thing is, that loading empty mags and clips in your inventory also happens instantaneously, something that needs to be fixed.
Hi Andy
here's the video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soaf4tKScdQ&feature=youtu.be
If you compare the scope behaviour at the 0:05 minute mark as well as the 0:53 minute mark, you will see the difference.
I made a .wmv video file of this (4 MB) but can't upload it!
Dawgstyl, what is this? I can't look at the pictures.
The melee system is broken since the latest update.
Zombies can hit players while facing the wrong direction, being two meters away, behind a wall or even dead, but to hit a zombie the player must execute a flawless strike where the end of the striking motion hits the zombie exactly on the head. Going through the zombies with the weapon counts as a miss -.-
Guess what. There used to be a reload sound when somebody spawned in nearby. For reasons unbeknownst to the DayZ community, the devs removed that sound. Which is ridiculous because now server hoppers are at a distinct advantage.
SOLUTION: re-implement the login warning reload sound!!!!!!
Happened to a friend of mine on 3rd person today. We joined a completely new server and didn't know it was restarting. Losing two months of gear to this is unacceptable.
Please, guys, if you say this happens to when you rejoin the same server too fast, please upvote this where the green bar is further above.
I also think there should be another improvised bow, one made simply out of three or four (maybe five) ordinary sticks and duct tape.
Duct tape is also great for fletching (instead of chicken feathers) by the way
Thumbs up. There's absolutely no argument against it.
I had this idea on the boards, too, but nobody responds there unless you're talking about adding new firearms to the game.
The crawling zombies you speak of could also grab the players ankle, immobilising him, then biting at his feet. A quick player would swiftly respond by getting his gun out and shooting or axing the zombie.
Hey there
I posted a similar idea on the boards a few months ago, but not with a survival cache that's guarded by zombies but with a well-concealed trap-door entrance with a ladder going down into it. Sort of like in the movies "The Road" or "Take Shelter", full of canned food, gas, ammo, medical supplies etc.
My idea was to have two spawn randomly at up to 100 different spots, sort of like the random helicopter crash, and for you to have to run over the trap-door to hear that the floor under you is hollow and face down to open the trap-door.
I totally agree with this.
However, it should be possible to cancel the action at any time
So if loading 20 pieces of 7.62x39 ammo into a drum mag, it should go
ANIMATION: Take drum mag in hand
ANIMATION: Put bullet in drum mag (+1)
ANIMATION: Put bullet in drum mag (+1)
ANIMATION: Put bullet in drum mag (+1)
Cancel action
ANIMATION: Put drum mag away
> in this case, only three bullets were loaded in the drum mag, 17 are put back in inventory space
May 10 2016
Came for the suggestion, stayed for the comments.
My favorite part of the idea is "2. If you ignore the status messages and finally everything goes into your pants, the pants gets ruined. "
> I guess that explains the many holes in my swimming trunks then!
"I have to tell yoy that i know few sniper stories about them not being able to move for days and had to pee/poop on himselves." WHAT?? He didn't ruin his pants or the gear in his pockets?? Must be the high-tech Special Forces grade materials they use nowadays!
LOL, no but seriously, the OP was probably kidding.
On a more serious note, I think they should implement belching and farting for when you are stuffed, though! That would teach those gluttonous power-gamers a thing or two!!
Loot yes, the military zombies could have a bit of ammo on them too.
Generally, not every zombie should have survival loot IMO but at least let me take the shirt off them so I can make rags for a fireplace kit.
You say you "dropped your gun" and it disappeared. Did you put your bag on the ground for some reason, too?
If that is the case, this is not a "hack attack" but simply that standard glitch where dropped items disappear some random other place in the building you're in, or just outside the building walls.
If you ever lose items you dropped on the ground, I recommend searching the building and the outer walls (I realize that in the situation you described, this is a dangerous act)
Agree with Murray and Synthraxis.
Simply having a zombie spawn instantly at the death of a zombie is a cheap way of making the PvE aspect difficult.
A better solution would be more zombies and a realistic AI perception
Zombies are currently omniscient and always know where the players are just from hearing some footsteps or a gunshot from hundreds of meters away. They don't need a visual to know where you are.
Also, the game kind of lacks a zombie apocalypse feel as pertains to the melee weapons you can actually use against zombies. Except for the axes and maybe the machete, all melee weapons are pretty much useless. I don't think that can be the point of the game.
However, dead bodies shouldn't block player movement
Totally couldn't agree more.
If you really want to hide another players gear, put some damn work in and risk losing your own gear! Or carry a damn shovel.
This suggestion is awesome because it helps resolve the horrible issue with lack of loot as well.
Also, I don't think there should be any reason not to be able to loot your own body in case you were killed by a glitch, lag, über-zombie or similar.
If you want to kill people just for the kicks, you will have to think of a way of moving all that loot.
*sigh* I'm sorry but I have to ask.
Were both servers public hives?
Or was one of them a private hive?
I ask simply because a lot of people don't know what public/private hives are. And you made no mention of this in your original post.
In case both servers were public, are you 100% sure that the new server you chose had fully loaded?
I ask because ever since I have started to be 100% sure that a server has finished loading, I have not had a single character wipe. EVER AGAIN.
The glitch with the broken legs and ruined pants (and shoes) does not only happen in prison buildings. I've had it happen to me in the haylofts (with the stairs) as well and also in other houses. But it always happens on an upper level.
It is not an animation that causes it with me, it happens when I am running too fast. I don't think I ever walked and it happened.
This is an old issue, but in my opinion a little overignored.
The whole thing does seem a little silly.
In my opinion, rags are overpowered to a certain extent, especially given the stackability to 6 rags.
Consider this: a t-shirt takes up one full inventory space, so does a bandana.
Let's say I collect
- one bandana
- two t-shirts
- one bandage
> 4 inventory spaces
Now I tear everything to rags. I now have
- 6 rags
- one bandage
> two inventory spaces
Logic dictates that
- I can only stack up to two rags
- making a splint requires two rags (or one rag and 50% bandage)
Bandages should have the advantage that they are more efficient for fixing wounds, since that is their actualy purpose in real-life, and they were designed for that purpose, to be light-weight, compact to cover large wounded areas.
Sorry but you're not going to get your items back.
I'm afraid that this is all part of the Alpha game, dying because of garbage like this then starting new.
If it helps, this kind of thing has happened to me about five times, and other people have had it more often.
It's easy to gear up good stuff quickly if you know where
I've had this too, but also generally clothes I'm wearing going down a tier-level when I re-join after reset for example.
Did you have to rejoin or did you join another server, too before they got ruined?
Stupid idea. Food is bountiful in Chernarus, this isn't The Road or the Andees mountains.
Also, this would just ruin the survival aspect since meat would be even more bountiful.
Just leave this crap out of the game.
Just happened to me too.
I just got in the server and was on first floor of haybarn. Quite possible that I had a desync and fell off. Funny thing is, I didn't run so as not to alert zombies, but snuck in crouched mode.
Yes, Neurax, soldiers carry up to 40 kilos of total gear because they can actually fit things in their backpack, which isn't possible in DayZ. I have done an experiment in which I fitted more stuff into a school briefcase than would go into a DayZ ingame mountain backpack. But the inventory slots are not the issue here.. if you calculate how much you have (Ak47 is about 8 pounds btw) on your DayZ toon right now, you will likely not reach 20 kilos, unless you have a mountain backpack full of canned food.
And like was said several times before, it doesn't make a difference if you carry a full or empty backpack or any gear at all or not.
Also: "The characters don't know how to bend their knees or roll on the floor to soften their fall which is any human beings natural instinct. Also, falling on the grass or soil is not as lethal as falling on tarmac."
I agree something needs to be done here.
The devs ought to see a few freerunning / le parcour videos.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEeqHj3Nj2c
Not saying the ingame characters should be that awesome but it's ridiculous. The characters don't know how to bend their knees or roll on the floor to soften their fall which is any human beings natural instinct. Also, falling on the grass or soil is not as lethal as falling on tarmac.
As for the "50 kilo backpack" argument, that is simply invalid. No way can I ever pack 50 kilos of goods into even a mountain backpack. Apart from that, it doesn't make a difference if you're wearing one or not.
I can't look at the upload?
Confirm what Radicals said.
Sometimes the items show up outside the building or on another level or in another room.
Sometimes they disappear for good, I had that happen to me with three AKM mags in the police station in Svetlojarsk that I put on the ground floor in order to refill half-empty mags with content of other half-empty mags.
Upvoted. Agree with kkthnx. What the hell is wrong with this community.
Still annoying the hell out of me in 0.53
orangutan is right.
When you join too soon, you get wiped.
When you log on, the screen has to look like this:
Wait for host (max. 2 seconds)
Battle-eye client message in bottom left pops up immediately
Player list pops up on right side
Screen says "Please wait"
If the Wait for host stays longer than 2 seconds, escape immediately!!
