Jumping is very unresponsive

Description

  • there is always a 1-2 second delay from pressing the jump key to actually jumping
  • at least half the time, the character doesn't even jump
  • at least one out of 5 times the character will perform "step over" instead of jumping even though he's running

I think "step over" and "jump" should be two separate commands because I would like to jump whenever I want to, not when the game randomly decides I should be able to.

This was mentioned in issue 0000160 by someone else, but his was a massive list of issues and I felt this deserved a separate issue.

I have found that running vault/stepover are determined by whether your weapon is holstered or not. i.e if my weapon is holstered then i do a running vault but if i have it raised then i do a stepover.

@Redtama - For me it's kinda random

I believe the step/jump is determined by how tired your character is. If you've been running for a while they will step over and if they aren't completely winded they will jump. Just my observations so far.

Yeah, it doesn't matter whether your weapon is lowered or not. It just works or doesn't, randomly, or maybe determined by stamina, like Falloutperson416 said. Don't know.

I have been unable to correlate the jump not working to anything else I am doing; it just doesn't work sometimes and is quite random.

@Redtama, I will test what you are saying, and I believe you are correct, but also sometimes it just doesn't work at all.

I have zero issues with this. As a matter o fact, I go around the level jumping over fences back and forth just for fun. Not unresponsive for me at all.

I second that works better then arma2 but its really laggy takes a couple seconds to jump and once in a while does not jump

This has to be registered with the server too. The server or your network can cause the delay in the animation to start.

I agree, its really frustrating when you are running cross country and then you are going to jump over and then then the jump doesnt trigger and instead you stand still and walk over the fence slowly

this is all due to sync loss and ping .. so no programming failure ..
just wathc your Bandwith and ping and that the server sync´s well and it wont happen

It is a failure in programming, vaulting works perfect in Arma 3 in MP.
There is a lot that needs to be taken from Arma 3 to help fix this game.

Yea, i can feel delay with jumping also

I can see al these keyboards geting smashed with furious rage.. this not just dayz issue.. this affects keyboard market. Better chceck if the guy responsible for this game behavior doesnt have share in some keyboard making company.

I've an open issue because my character got stuck under a house, in the first weeks of the game this wall glitch was common and i heard that people can jump out but while you're inside a buliding, or at least under it, you can't jump or step over. Not sure if this belongs here or not...

I'd love to see all these things client sided, not server, like choosing a gun, movement and this, that would solve a lot of issues

this is just too bad to name in the feedback.... if the dev team doens't know of try to fix this issue, then they clearly arent playing the game.... crash bandicoot on a nintendo emulator on a galaxy s1 responds better than this..........

This is still a thing, and I think jumping has ceased to work entirely when you're standing against the object you're trying to jump over.

Perhaps it's time to acknowledge this?

@Quazoosl: Acknowledged. Very annoying... I would have reported this myself, but I keep forgetting this until the point where I see a fence rapidly closing in.
In the meanwhile I see all my friends rather silently go around objects instead of jumping over.

+1 This unresponsive jumping is one of the disgusting things in DayZ now, as some others. Characters run around rapidly, but when it comes to jumping it is not working as you expect.

Acknowledged for 0.51.

confirmed for .52 too, try mapping it to your mouse it works 100% better half the keys don't depress.

If the success of a jump is a determined factor, a fail message would be nice.

If the success of a jump is a determined factor, so could possibly the height of one's jumps? A calculation to decide whether that player falls on face upon landing, also. Let's not forget to incorporate the odds of freak ankle-break - modified by other factors such as hunger, health, footwear, weather, etc...

I hope the devs take their time with this game! The urge to be rushed is a dangerous one.

Still annoying the hell out of me in 0.53

Yes some mouvement are fucked in this game like, jump (jump down or in front kill you for only 1 meter, and jump through small wall is fucking scrpit and slow) , straf left and right qweekly, is 0 reactivity and 0 precision, and moove step in front is fucking scripted too, it's like your character is retarded and know only running, so he run and fall from every roof and the moovement in house is 10/10 in the weirdest things i nevers seen.

PLEASE FIX MOUVEMENT FLUIDITY !!!!

Found out you have to look on the ground. If nothing happen ist most of the time desync from client to server position/stance of your character (.0.55).

It works just like hitting a hotkey sometimes....delayed

Jumping feels better with 57 exp.

Today I had jumping problems. Pretty often I wasn't able to jump at all. Sometimes (in running) stoped running -> making slow climb move -> go in crouch. Normally it worked well in .60...

Issues here as well on .61 exp. Both jumping and step over do not work and is very random. At times i find if you turn away of object (fence) and then hit V and look back at object it works! Completely random as i cannot find a way to reproduce 100%. This is very buggy.
