This issue should be fixed, it is quite annoying and what if you turn off your engine, and someone walks into your still-spinning tailrotor?
Also, it just looks clunky and unfinished.

If the helicopter can handle more damage in future, then the occupants (or at least most of them) should die in harder crashes without having it explode.
It would make the gameplay alot more immersive and exciting.
But Arma was never balanced until Arma 3. War is not balanced either, as you might know.
AAF would definitely not have one, since they are only the army of altis and they do not have that much money compared to CSAT and NATO.
Maybe NATO might have one, but not as advanced as the ones from the chinese.
Your theory is very plausible!
Also they teased some chinese/asain soldiers in the Helicopter DLC sceenshots with the black 'Taru'.
I cannot wait for the expansion! I am sure alot of content will be included! :)
But to bring this all back to the point of this issue,... it would be interesting having such exoskeletons for the asian CSAT forces. ^^
Maybe for the chinese forces coming at some point...I'll not mention too much.^^
But I meant that it surely would be in your way if you would pilot a jet/helicopter/tank with it. (ignoring the fact that no normal soldier would be able use those vehicle types anyway)
Those videos actually convinced me. I never thought they were that good. Although they do look clumsy now, but surely they would have more fluid movement in 20 years.
Would you have any limitations with using vehicles? You would have to pack it up to get in, right?
Btw - The battery idea is very good, would limit the number of people using it.
Have a thumbs up.
Arma 3 is not that far in the future. I mean, do you think that 20 years in the future would make a huge difference from today? From 1995-2015 not much happened either.
Of course better medical treatment, upgraded guns, upgraded armor, upgraded technology. But not a whole lot different.
Not a bad idea, but it just does not fit in 20 years later. (Maybe in 50 years)
I hope this gets done before the DLC is released. It is really frustrating when you slightly tip over and you just explode and kill everyone with/around you.
I have found out that there is just a script which sets the helicopter to a wreckage as soon as it tips over. Even when you use "this allowDamage False" on your helicopter, you turn into a wreckage as soon as you tip to the side! They should really just remove that.
Besides of that, the flight dynamics are very nice and had been worked out well.
I am not the ticket author, but my specs might help giving you guys some info.
-If I am on the Altis main airport I normally get around 60-70 fps, flying around in a rotorlib helicopter gives me 30-40.
Laptop: Lenovo G770
System: Windows 7 Home Premium
Systemtype: 64-Bit
Processor: Intel i5-2410M ; CPU 2.30GHz
RAM: 8GB
Graphicscard: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 6650M
(Dont't ask me how I get 30-70fps in Arma 3, I do not know myself)
Hope this helps.
I also get quite a bit of fps loss with rotorlib, especially when I speed up the time.
This is fixed now I think.
It will not be smaller, since it is a big transport and cargo helicopter. It is a mix of a Sikorsky S-64F "Skycrane" and your Ka-226T "Sergei"/"Hoodlum".
Maybe they might add a smaller helicopter some day...
That thing is so darn ugly, but somehow i like it.
But there should be a way to add that cabin or remove it, and adding some weapons as options.
Only thing is it looks more like a civilian helicopter.
Thumbs up though.
In a crouch and standing position it is really not easy to hold such a heavy sniper rifle. Basicly you cannot hit anything properly.
Personally I think the sway is pretty realistic in standing/crouch positions.
Although for being prone you should be able to sit the lowest part of your rifle onto the ground, (in most cases the magazine) to get a steady aim.
Since you cannot do that in Arma 3, bipods would be neccessary.
A better wreck model would be great, too.
Like one where the wings are missing, kind of what the buzzard has.
Just doesn't look good at the moment.
Any news on this?
Will this maybe come with the expansion?
If this might help, I haven't seen any cars flying around like crazy yet.
But I have noticed it by helicopters that fly along. As they appear for me (in my render radius), they jerk around for a few seconds and then they act normally as long as they stay in my sight.
I have not tested this enough times to say I am sure, but every helicopter I have seen, -flown by humans- has jerked around like that as I described it.
Btw: The server had around 10 people and my "ping" was 13~16.
It makes the use of sidearms pretty much useless and it gives those casual players the chance to sprint around in a house with a sniper rifle/silenced machine gun.
Please fix this nonsense.
I hope they bring back the parts for the AH-9/MH-9 in the helicopter DLC and of course add some customisation options for all helicopters.
Upvoted!
The boxes which the Huron carries are ideal for transporting on flatbeds. Also if a pod falls into the woods -or anywhere else unreachable for helicopters- , then you can load it up on a truck and bring it back to base.
And being able to carry vehicles with the flatbeds would be great!
(soft cars, MRAPs, boats, submarines, Hummingbird)
Upvoted, would be better when some more/bigger planes would be added to Arma 3 in the future.
Why is everything so balanced in Arma 3?
For an example, in Arma 2 russians had some massive firepower on their Mi-8 (120 rockets to be exact)! No american helicopter had such suppressive ground-engaging power. Not to mention their Ka-52, which is a beast.
OK, in Arma 2 weapons are not balanceable, because there everybody only took 1-3 shots and was dead.
Wait until BI nerfs the machine guns so that you need to hit them 20 times before they die...
Real war is not balanced in any way.
At least for smaller helicopters as far as I know... You would easily get killed/heavily wounded in a Hummingbird (has no protection-pretty much a civilian helicopter) by the flying shrapnels of the rocket. And sometimes/mostly the helicopter will be torn apart of such small size.
This only counts if you are hit in the center/cockpit of the aircraft. If it hits the tail you could just lose ATRQ controls.
And yeah, some "wobble"-effect and difficult flying due to damaged parts/hydraulics would be nice. A outbreaking fire in bigger choppers might not be a bad idea either.
Btw, the missiles are not "OP" at all. They actually are "under-OP" as if you would say.
Never noticed this one until I tried this mission.
-Only knew that it gets stuck in the woods, what is pretty obvious since you cannot drive around in the woods with a normal car.
Although you must say it is also not easy to drive around in the sand with a normal car.
However the devs decide, I would not mind being able/not being able to drive on sand.
It seems like NATO cannot afford any plastic doors. Not to mention one FLIR. Those things might cost over 10k, which is too expensive for an entire army.
*oh god the irony*
Oh, and the weird thing is, AAF can afford one, but the NATO can't. Explain that to me.
I am surprised the devs haven't said anything to this yet.
I agree with the "rarely exploding" thing, just if a helo crashes hard, mostly everone will die, even if it does not explode.
A "wrecked" frame would be nice, or at least "destroyed rotorblades" and deformed frame would be epic. But I assume the torn off rotorblades would be possble to make, I mean, ARMA III is not completely done yet, so there is a little tiny chance of this happening.
P.S. I added a picture that shows perfectly how extreme this "exploding heli" is.
The Quadtiltrotor does not sound too plausible and seems to not be that efficient.
(In my opinion)
But personally I think a updated V280 Valor would be very interesting to see and is indeed very fast and agile. Also it has some pretty sexy shapes.
-But prop engines are certainly more efficient than jet engines for such an aircraft, because jet engines cannot autorotate in a hover (duh) and it consumes a hell of a lot of fuel.
There is also a new type of aircraft that is being tested, the "Raider" from Sikorsky, which is a mix of coxial-rotor helicopter and prop aircraft. It can fly around 400km/h in flight and can of course hover like any normal helicopter.
-just as information http://aviationweek.com/site-files/aviationweek.com/files/imagecache/large_img/uploads/2014/10/aw100620143559l.jpg
But the Valor is in my opinion a reliable and fast troop transport aircraft.
-The Raider would be great though too, even with it's odd look.
This "tipping over-thing" is still a major (and seemingly easy fixable) problem, why wasn't this fixed in the Helicopter DLC?
A nice thing would be if the choppers would tolerate more impact damage upon a crash, just killing the crew instead of always exploding to space and beyond.
Please this is the MOST and ONLY really annoying thing in the entire game for me and maybe some others, even the action menu doesn't bother me as much as this problem...
We need this:

http://i.imgur.com/j45wxDD.jpg
NOT this:
http://i.imgur.com/zUAQqog.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/2Hcozih.jpg
And it would be great to add that "brutal impact=complete destruction" what Cenwulf is talking about to the helos and jets.
May you do this at some point? Please?
^ indeed. ^
Why is this not set to "assigned"? This has been an issue since the Alpha...
^ I remember that! I was so happy as I found out that it was possible and I actually thought it was a feature. I was disappointed as they removed it...
Well now, all I would want is not to explode if you tip over, which is really annoying.
I fully agree with NodUnit.
Making only the blades breakable and the helicopter not exploding as easily as in an michael bay movie when it tips over should not be as complicated to program as an entirely complex damage model.
I'm sure alot of people would be happy even with that.
If it gets added, then there should be a risk by doing that.
Btw: Show me a video where a pilot jumps out of a (blades off/or tail off/or engine out) heicopter with a parachute and survives. Then I would support this.
Here is a video that might be interesting for everyone, but remember it is a plane and not a helicopter. Also everyone has a parachute and is ready to jump anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7p6hqMnsLFY
It it pretty much impossible to eject from a flying helicopter as pilot, simply because he is stuck between the control elements and if he leaves them, they will go into their neutral position and change flight direction OR the pilot bumps into something (like the collective) and it is pushed down.
I peronally would rather crash and die by keeping the helicopter stable for the passengers to bail. I am concerned that real pilots would do that too.
Also I am sure that it would be abused to kill/"troll" teammates.
Maybe the Co-pilot could bail out of the Mohawk/Orca/Huron when the pilot keeps it in level. But the pilot could definiteley not eject.
@MulleDK19:
The window jettison is probably more for when the helicopter crashes and catches fire (or when it is too damaged to exit properly) , so that the crew can bail before they get burnt alive/get stuck. (In arma you just explode in a crash and die instantly...)
I am not 100% sure but it is extremely doughtful that they would jump out of the helicopter. Also they don't even have parachutes.
Have you ever flown a Hummingbird...? That thing has no countermeasures as you know, and once you are locked on, you are doomed with the latest flight model. There is no way you can outfly a heatseaker in Arma.
I have mostly saved all my passengers and i would even die in-game to save them, but in some situations it is just not possible to save them...
In my opinion, you should only get the entire teamkill if the helicopter gets destroyed without being damaged by enemies. (Crashing by lack of skills)
Well, currently if a rocket hits you, you fall like a brick. - It is realistic though... I mean, a rocket can easily rip a helicopter into pieces, especially the blades.
So... No, helicopter pilots should have the same thing like APC drivers would.
Nice! I hope this will be added at some point. Dead bodies do not clean themselves up.^^
(Maybe marksman DLC?-for stealth missions and stuff?)
Would it be a neat idea if you could transport dead bodies in the back of trucks? Or is that too much?
I think you should not instantly die as soon as the helicopter starts to sink. It is not very realistic and not fun for the gameplay. The helicopter should sink slower and the crew has the time to eject until they are out of breath and drown.
-Of course if the helicopter hits the water too hard it will be deadly.
One more thing, is it possible if you could remove the "wreck"-thing if it hits the ground or at least give it 5 minutes until it turns into junk?
Thanks.
Bots act like bots. I mean, really like robots. They do not act human at all.
They get hit by a bullet from behind into the backplate and just get bumped by the hit. As if something only itched on their back, they turn around immediately, see you, and shoot you right into the face at the 1st~2nd shot.
That...is not very human.
Even if soldiers are well trained, they cannot act like robots. Also they could not just fight normally until their systems give up and they collapse.
A soldier would be knocked over (esecially when he is surprised) and would get thrown to the ground or at least lose his balance. After that he must recover and get his mind clear before he can engage normally.
Some effect should be there, maybe you get set into ragdoll as if you were hit by a car in-game and you return into a prone position. It should only apply if you are hit in the chest/stomach/neck(if wearing neck armor)/and legs.
never tested it yet, but this is a problem, you couldn't see when the enemy comes while you are waiting for him, and it just isn't realistic.
Ah-9 tested. It blows up too.
kinda alot of work, but only because there are so many, because arma 2 weapons and vehicles are able to be imported from Arma 2. all they have to do is put in the health and put in finished arma 3 physics into the vehicles, otherwise the animations of the guns would be TONS of work. If any modder would make a DLC with Arma 2 vehicles I would get it immediately. :D
who let these guys in arma?... oh, yeah i forgot. DAYZ-.-
well, but i want that wreck surviving thingy back too as my opinion, cause it was an epic feature i never could have thought about in arma 2, even if it looked pretty ugly, it was awesome.
Yes, i have the same issue trying not to die while swimming.
thumbs up, but i also think AI is still way too hard, for being on "regular". They spot you very easily even if you are sitting in bushes or at mid-night with a black diver suit in the ocean by a storm-.- their shooting is also etreme accurate.
You can close this, it has been fixed.
i never said that the chopper should blow up if it hits the water TrueCruel, but indeed i shouldn't have put it on "immediate", i was just a little dissapointed with the new update
thumbs up, this must change, cause it looked stupid in arma 2 and in arma 3 it is kinda ridiculous:D
@gibonez
I am kinda on your side, although the armor should have a certain level of protection. But not as much as right now, where enemy nps-soldiers have superpowers and can take 3-10 hits in the chest from a rifle [I have tested it very often(50m-500m)] and just suck up the bullet by doing a wierd "wobble move"...
The helmet is good, but I hardly dought a human could hold a 500-1500mph fast bullet slamming onto your chest. Don't you think that might hurt and throw you down/make you unconcious? - Imagine it.
The body armor really needs to be set a level down and the impact should give an effect, instead of just draining your healthbar...
now its pretty messed up in the new update, kinda more than you wanted. because the chopper now can slide though the water with it's entire model and not just the heels. also it now gets damage if the heels are only touching the water.
small jump, where you can jump on the back of a pickup and then on the roof would be good to check out everything... would be a nice touch.
I know this issue very well, as i was playing Wasteland mode I wasn't able to take a weapon out of a car, so i had to pull it over in my backpack and equiping it from there.
yeah, vehicles should'nt be going back on their wheels so easily, even though sometimes it is realistic, ONLY sometimes. All the other car physics are massivly better than in Arma II , i know what i am talking about...;) i think BIS has done an awesome job on this.
The UH-60 (i guess) is made better, but it blows up really easily, like in 5 meters hight scraping the wheel causing tilting sidewards makes it explode immediatly. If NOT, the rotors have "noclip" and keep spinning until the chopper has rested and turns into a burned up(even though it didn't catch fire) piece of junk...
expecially if you want to get dead boddies out of the weckages, if would be better. cause once we had a chopper crash, where the chopper had no scratch but all were dead(0006555). later we needed to get more ammo, so we stopped by it, but we couldnt get the bodies out...
brunova1807, totaly agreed. In Arma 2 it was horrible, we had 2 vehicles and only me and a npc had to retrieve it, but i wanted to bring my car with too. He drove the objective car with 80mph into a tree and destroyed it-.-
Has anyone ever heard about "Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising" ?
The gore system is very realistic, especially when you get shot with a high-caliber sniper rifle. (It can take half of your leg off and after such a hit you become unconcious and bleed out/or shocked and instantly die).
Shot soldiers also do not even always just die in that game, they sometimes survive and lie on the ground and/or bleed out if they do not get any medical treatment.
Another thing is that when you get hit in the leg, you start limping and cannot walk very fast.
(in Arma 3 you just walk really slow, but normal, as if you forgot how to run..)
It would be nice to see such a system in Arma 3, besides of the gore part, that would just be too much work.
like many said, it would not be a very worthy feature, but it would be nice to see something like that in like stealth missions... a great thing would be for angry civilians, that have baseball bats or something beating up officers and other civis. but of course it would rarely be in arma 3.
dude, choppers don't always explode when they crash and it is quite realistic because it was made to at least survive a chopper crash not like in Arma II...
I just hope that they put a different texture on the wreck because it looks burnt up even though it didn't ctach any sort of fire.
It would be great to have, but there should be an option where you can enable/disable it.
This sucks up alot of fps on not so powerful computers... ^^
that would be epic, i will like this to hope BIS makes it come true, cause there were mods for the editor to have a 3D perspective in Arma 2. :)
well... if the helicopter is wrecked like in black hawk down(where the pilot takes his gun and shoots through the front windows)it would be pretty lol :), but pilots flying and shooting would be really rediculous
Indeed. That would downgrade the quality of the game.
Allthough, there are some good, fluid mods out there that could maybe be brought in and of course re-worked to have the same quality of the game.
I wouldn't care if they would work less. More content ftw!
voted up. AI has overpowers in stuff like spotting, aiming and has no freightness of being shot or taking cover, lol
Would be great to have this, in arma 2 we had this too. Just if you could walk with your hands up would be good.
In arma 2 I think the npc's kept shooting at you even though you surrendered. Kind of useless then.^^
I hope this comes to the "Marksman DLC" as feature. Would fit in the category.
