So the same thing happened 3 more times, and I checked the Windows event viewer and apparently it was a display driver crash each time. This makes no sense as I'm able to run MSI Kombustor without incident, but I guess it's not the game causing it so I suppose disregard this report.

I think it might be a problem in the continue command call.

I cannot repro this on the latest build (tested on hosted and dedicated), could have been fixed indirectly because of other improvements done to the game, please retest

Due to the current phase of Live Ops development in Arma 3, we cannot commit to any fixes, though we will try to consider them.
As the changing faces is immersion breaking, but not game breaking it probably wont be put in high priority.

The important functionality of Units can be achieved via the ancient: https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/squad.xml
It's much less user-friendly, but its always available.
Otherwise there are other Unofficial XML creating and hosting sites for Arma.

HELLO!?!?
I can load the game and play it, but my unit's insignia is not showing up in multiplayer. On the launcher is says "Units data acquisition failed". Has been going on for a month now. I'm not the only one experiencing this. Everyone on multiplayer is too.
