This was first noticed when S20 launched (S19 and before crafting from parts was almost instantaneously), but even worse when S21 launched, to the point I see the loading icon.

I have this ALT-Tab/Black Screen issue when I am set to native fullscreen with NVidia Filters enabled. If I disable filters I can ALT-TAB back and forth with no problem, so that may be a good place to start. Or perhaps try Windowed fullscreen mode.

the game does not crash on vanilla servers but still crashes on modded servers.

Can you try to uninstall all the mods and try to meet up without any mods running? So we can be sure this is not cuased by the modded content.
