Arma 3 crashing all day today.
Need More Info, NormalPublic

Description

Not sure what has changed from my end. Crashes during game mostly. Freeze. Sometimes kills mouse and most of Win10. Only thing I can do is ctrl/alt/del and select sign off.

I've turned off OC of CPU (Intel extreme tuning) and has not helped.

I've just noticed a new graphics driver 566.14 from 12NOV. I have 566.03. Maybe that is the cause of the issues ??

If you're using the perf branch, wait for the update or switch to stable.

If you're using the perf branch, wait for the update or switch to stable.

Is that in reference to the graphics drivers? I just go to the NVIDIA website and download the current latest driver.

No I meant the performance branch of the game. Anyway the crash should've been fixed by now so if you're still getting the crash, wait for a dev to analyze your crash files and respond.

Happened again just now, after about 15mins of play.

Crash/dump files are here - https://file.io/xnSY9jafudHs

happening again regularly. i reinstalled GPU drivers (does continuing to debloating with NVCleaninstall and/or clean remove with DDU cause issues?). OC is off.

downloaded MemTest86 and ran from USB Boot. 4 passes with default settings = no errors

installed graphics drivers without debloating = still crash
reinstalled Visual C++ redistribution 2013 x64 = still crash

any help anyone ?

Your file.io files were deleted.
Can you upload the rpt here? Not on another site?

last few things I did yesterday included :-
running dxwebsetup and directx_Jun2010_redist to try to 're-install' DX11/12.
installed latest nvideo 566.63.
i saw a site that suggested going to registry - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers and change TdrDelay to 0. [Just read a site now saying TdrDelay should be 10 ????]

all have had no effect so far.

Instead of trying those things, remove these parameters and try again:

-cpuCount=12 -exThreads=7 -malloc=system

the cpuCount and exThreads are especially bad.

OK Thanks for the update. I tried what you suggested but it just crashed again after about 20mins play.

I guess you'll have to wait for Dedmen to analyze your crash files then.
Can you also try the performance branch? Maybe the issue is already fixed there.
In case you don't know how to use it:
https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3:_Steam_Branches
TL;DR:

  1. Right click on Arma 3 in Steam
  2. Select Properties
  3. Go to Betas
  4. If you don't see the performance branch in the drop down, use the code CautionSpecialProfilingAndTestingBranchArma3 to get access.
  5. Select the performance/profiling branch in the drop down and wait for Steam to download the exe (it's less than 100 MB).

ok, thanks for trying. do i leave the thread here or post somewhere else?

No problem. If you have something to post, post it here.

By the way, have you verified your game files yet? Here's how to do that:

  1. Right click on Arma 3 in Steam
  2. Select Properties
  3. Go to Installed Files
  4. Select Verify integrity

yep, done that at some point on the journey.

There was a time when this was not happening. Can't remember when exactly. Maybe mid October. If it is GPU driver related, I could try to try to install few older versions from around that time to see if stable?

Not done a DDU in safe mode yet. Maybe worth a shot?

Damn, final steps no joy. Did DDU in safe mode. no joy. As with other GPU reinstalls, the first time I play, Arma 3 does not appear to crash for abit longer, maybe 30+ mins.

In EventViewer getting this error at the same time -

The description for Event ID 13 [AND ERROR 153] from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:

\Device\Video3
Graphics Exception: ILLEGAL_MME_METHOD

\Device\Video3
Graphics Exception: ESR 0x404490=0x80000080

\Device\Video3
Error occurred on GPUID: 100

some suggested running in NVIDIA debug mode. It crashed again - :(

Nothing else I can do. Now stuffed with £1500 piece of metal. I hate Windows sometimes.

Any chance upgrading to Win11 might resolve conflicts ???

IDK. Just wait for Dedmen to analyze your crash file.

Latest actions taken, thinking about anything that might trigger memory or access issues -

Resolved on-going issue with ESET anti-virus. Some processes referencing old files and dll from previous install. Causing high CPU usage. Full uninstall in Safe Mode and reinstall latest version. ESET issue gone. Arma 3 crashing not gone.

Not testing yet -

Removed all Profiles and auto-profile switching options from my Roccat Swarm keyboard.

Switched to JEMalloc memory allocator 64bit in Arma3. Someone reported it resolved their issues, so worth a go!

Set Windows power profile to Max performance (haven't investigated the details of what this changes, yet)

Testing today.

no joy. crash. Also in other games, BF4, FS2020.

Went back to driver from start of Oct 565.90 = no change
