Good theory about the spawning, makes sense.
i believe these crashes are caused by the AI spawning at certain locations. so far there's airport, montignac farm and durras but there are probably more
these crashes also occur on foot. i've found another recurring one in the fields S/E of montignac
I tried to replicate the bug with a friend on the enemy team, and was unsuccessful

Collateral damage surrounding Levi's Military gate has been solved as of update 1.2.0.52 (Steam), and works really well now, but I've found some other problematic spots that the AI struggles with in the following locations(tested with various vehicles and various AI units both alone and with a buddy in cargo):

Dynamic supply locations that change from match to match would be awesome, especially if they were not labeled on the map but intel could be gained that would reveal there location.
Not sure if that's realistic in this game mode or not though.
