Or use visitor id of the building (assuming the map is done and won’t be recompiled. still think the junk position is safer in the long run
you can use building position and store in hashmap as a key maybe in mission namespace and owner as value, so would be fast to pull owner based on position

The changes to firemode were post 2.06, so I cannot confirm or deny how it was pre 2.06, but I can definitely tell you this has nothing to do with persistent firemode. Will I fix it? Don't know, apart from showing topdown on UI, it doesn't show it in weapon UI and it doesnt do topdown attack if you fire AP. So it is cosmetic at this point unless you could prove otherwise.
