Sumrak added a comment to T77511: Terrain Builder causes random slowdowns and eventually freezes PC.

I am having this issue with TB on my Win8 64b laptop. (Laptop has Intel Core i7-4710HQ, 8GB RAM, TB running on SSD and dedicated graphics card nvidia GTX 860M / was tested on Intel card too, but without any change).

Here is the link on YT video, which tries to explain this problem a bit, though it is always better to actually "feel" it. I have not tried to show you how much laggy it can get as I do not really want to do that (I wouldn't be even able to turn off the recording probably).

I have tried the things you guys suggested but without any positive results. Also tried to switch on compatibility mode for TB, no results too. TB is simply 'not usable' to longer work, which requires changing focus into buldozer / other apps.

-exThreads=0 has to be set explicitly. Otherwise the engine determines what is most suitable to your system.

I don't honestly remember Kju, it's really been some time.
I used the standard parameters though, so if that's one of them i guess yes.
The problems i had were similar to what Sumrak described.

However i haven't used terrain builder in quite some time now, i don't know if it would still have this problem.

you havent Disabled UAC on windows 8 have ya ?
I had that , All BIS applications will freeze if UAC is dsiabled on WIn 8

just incase .

There are currently 2 possible sitting animations I can think of. One can be toggled by pressing # and the other can be reached via ctrl+s

As for the points you made:
1-Geneva conventions (Bohemia is not going to break them whether the factions that are represented do or not)
2-expect those in the expansions in 2015/16 if at all.
3-less than a month away
4-Already said no (port the sample models yourself)
5-why? Altis and Stratis don't need anything more than goats and rabbits. You may see some with the expansions.
6-possible via scripting
7-already happening if it hasn't already
8-hopefully will happen. Get over it if it doesn't.

its not really hard, they would just need to make changeteams a dynamic thing, so that even blufor attacks spies on opfor clothes (like in real life).

place a standard rifleman on the map
in the ini of the unit it's self

this setObjectTextureGlobal [0,"uniform\loadout.jpg"];
(see attached file)

preview the mission - note the uniform has changed.

go back to the editor - edit the uniform anyway you please

preview the mission again - note the edits to the uniform do not load, it's still in memory from the old preview.

A bit late on this issue.

So after some testing, I found that :

  • load returns a percentage of load (0 == empty, 1 == full)
  • loadAbs returns the mass value

Also, I've seen somewhere a developper explain that mass doesn't represent any classic SI unit of mass. It's more of a one-size-fits-all unit of measurement for its global volume plus true mass. So you might have ultralight objects, but if they take half a backpack volume, the arma mass value will represent this fact so you don't stack tons of them.

Finally, if it can interest you, be aware that currently the mass load handling seems inconsistent and buggy, as per my recent issue report found here : http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=26506

Hi,

I reinstalled Windows 8.1 x64 from scratch, today. I applied all Windows updates. Installed are the following programs:

  • Steam
  • Origin
  • Teamspeak
  • Nvidia Experience
  • Opera Browser
  • PuTTY
  • Xming

The issue is still 100% reproducable. I.e. Arma crashes, when my joystick is attached to the USB port it was *always* plugged into. I will call this port USB_A2 in the following. As previously stated, the joystick works fine in USB_A2 with Windows Gamecontroller Widget, BF3, BF4, etc. Arma 3 worked like a charm until approximately one month ago.

I did some more research with with the joystick and arma3 and discovered some interesting things.

When the joystick is disconnected from the USB_A2, when the game is frozen after the 3 splash screens, Arma 3 loads successfully into the main menu.

I plugged the joystick back into USB_A2 and the game froze, as i entered the configuration menu.

Unplugged the joystick again and Arma came back to life.

Now the interesting part: I plugged the joystick into another USB port (USB_B1) and all described problems are gone.

I believe this is a regression in Arma 3.

Hello,

it seems that you Arma is not actually crashing but shutting down in emergency mod. It is most likely caused by Windows or third-party software. Would it be possible to try other USB devices? Also, have you tried updating all possible drivers (ie. motherboard, BIOS)?

Hi,

the game does not generate the bidmp or mdmp files, because it is only freezing not crashing. The process can't be killed via the taskbar or Alt+F4.

I created a process image with the task manager and killed the task with the task manager subsequently.

After killing the process, no bidmp + mdmp files were created.

I uploaded two sets of the process image (.dmp) and .rpt file to: http://bnkr.no-ip.biz:10080/ARMA3/

I did some more research and found out that my joystick seems to cause the problem.

The game does start when the joystick is not plugged in. I attached 2 logfiles for each testcase.

Whilst looking at the log I noticed something. See the log extract below for clarification:

The log file lists all control elements of my joystick in my Windows locale (German). The list of control elements is not complete, yet. The elements are listed in the Windows 8 Gamecontroller-Settings tool aswell. As next element I would expect 8 digitial buttons, which are grouped as "Schaltflächen" in my locale. Note the German Umlaut 'ä' in "Schaltflächen".

My wild guess now is, that your parser checks each field for validity and does not like said Umlaut.

would it be possible to plug a joystick again and try to find crashdump in the same folder as the rpt? (crashdump is rpt + bidmp + mdmp file with same name)
