If you can't use your melee weapon, you can try to take something in your inventory into your hands and throw it away. Wait till the animation is completed (don't do anything)then you may swing your fist or melee weapons again. maybe this helps you with this bug.

Currently the automatic Video settings management of Dayz is utterly bugged. This needs a hotfix, quickly.
Where did you buy the game ?
In case you are using the -SkipIntro or -world=empty launch attribute, you need to remove it, to see your character.
Reporting on 0.49.124.959 EXP .... no more long gamefreezes, texture loading is smoothly, better fps in cities.
Server frequently unresponsive with: opening doors, using items, movement and melee on heavy loaded servers.
Overall a much better performance. Still a long way to go :) Thanks for working hard on the core gameplay.
Yesterday on Exp 0.49.124860 when the freezes occur, the servers were going to crash or shut down a few minutes after. Fresh server gameplay was fluid... So back to work devs, something gone bad.

Short freezes are much less and shorter, seems to be mainly texture loading now.
Hit detection hitting with melee on zombies is better but not anywhere good.
0.49.124857 on exp DayZ UK 0-09. Freezes nearly every minute for several seconds.

The long freezes are sometimes back, seems to be related by zombies aggroing from very far away. The very frequent short freezes up to 15 seconds) in and near towns like svetlo, novo are still there, quite unplayable with rubberbanding aswell.
When players are near this happens,too even in smaller towns.

The long nasty fixes with session lost do not happen on this build. Great!
However, the short freezes happen very often in larger towns while moving around. Out of town the performance is fluent.
Hit detection on zombies with melee is still bugged.
People with high end PC's should give some feedback, too, because my system is not a new one.
When I join DE 0-1 experimental server my game starts to stutter and freezes till it loses session. Windows resource monitor shows excessive memory usage and memory pagefaults and a lot of I/O reading the pagefile file.
This does not happen on the DayZ SWE 0-2 experimental server for e.g.....
I found what triggers this.
It is the viewdistance and the Texture Memory setting.
When I limit my viewdistance in the dayzprofile file like to 750m. This does not happen. When I increase it to 3000 meters it happens again on some servers. Maybe some servers have different forced viewdistance. My Videomemory is set to 1024 MB in the Videooptions (this could be a other trigger, too) and I have 4 gig ram. The introscreen (where you see your character) is affected by this, too with long loading time freezes.
Edit: Texture memory to auto Triggers this too, even on low Viewdistance.
There is also a smaller freeze happening and your character start to "go forward" when it recovers, this seems to be a different bug from what I describe.
This short freezes is what most people describe here and is unrelated to game settings so far for me. The server seems simply to stop sending information
for some seconds...and the client keeps up later, making you run at insane speed to the location when you keep pressing W for e.g

This is getting annoying. Something is wrong with the Steamoverlay + Dayz looks like tmp0 is called by the overlay although its disabled.
Found a Solution it's working so far:
Enabling steamoverlay in steam general settings<-ingame and in dayz steam specific settings.
After that Disabling it in dayz steam specific settings and then disabling it in steam general seetings---well that did not work for long :(
This problem vanished with the last steam/dayz updates. Can be closed.
Yes Dayz is not closing correctly often in 0.47 aswell.
"tmp0" is a file which belongs to Battleye. Looks like it keeps running.
Problem is that you can't close Steam the regular way, too, because of that.
I think this is as designed, when you switch a weapon or take a other items into hands your in hands item goes back to inventory, unless it is already full, then it drops.
A burning flare in your pants would be funny, a hot one not as.
What happens when you stack ammo or load magazines? Does it go off then, too?
What happens when you throw a flare?
Dayz characters seem to hold everything in 2 hands. Having a flare in one hand and a pistol in the other would make more sense...
And sure having only "lit" light sources automatically drop on the ground would be better gameplay wise. Able to turn off all light sources, too.

That is really strange. Your Laptop is much more powerful then my old desktop with cpu and gfx. You can optimize some important settings with editing config files and with launchoption. A guide can be found here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=216291078
Also close internet sites or browsers with flash content while playing. Some internet sites causing cpu stress to the computer.

It's a bug if the game designers want only medical items there although it makes no irl sense.

When you change your movement keys to the arrow keys, the gear window ist listening and taking the arrow key up button. It "eats" the command.
I am only sure about the arrow keys.
I have a GTX 460 and no crashes with the experimental driver 331.93 This is the the most stable driver for my card. No crashes with any games / programs I use, since I use this specific driver. Maybe you want to test it.
Making a system restore point before messing with Nvidia graphics drivers of all kind is recommended.
Make sure you uninstall the current driver completely for a clean install.

You can reuse stuff aswell, when you replace the currently used item in your inventory with a item from the vincinity.

So we have here some kind duping at its finest.
I think this goes into incorrect object handling of stuff in the world category.
Like missing range checks (by server never only client), missing checks to what players can do with an item and what the servers (never, ever only client) allows.
Shoot a backpack on the ground... Does it get damaged?
Everything which drops on the ground seems to be a new item with copied properities of the old item in the inventory, which gets deleted.
If this is true..? It can be done better without crippling the server + database.
Objets must be persistant with all handlings. They get moved and not deleted... as long they supposed to be on the server. Only the location properity changes.
I hope Devs working on it to prevent bugs like this and duping and items with unwanted properities.
It could be dependend on Footwear. I remember doing footsteps with military boots in buildings, while my other char has sneakers can sneak around silently inside buidings. I am going to check this confirm if it's a bug or by design.
When your cpu is not sitting correctly you pc could freeze not only in dayz a lot.
Freezes without BSOD occur by faulty drivers, defective hardware (could be usb, flashdrives...) and very often simply overheating. Sometimes the platines and parts on it (not main gpu/cpu) of your gpu or the mainboard get overheatet caused by heat accumulation in the case.
Sodah you need to look up that code of your BSOD gives to now what possibly causes it.
I can reproduce this on latest beta build on experimental: Open player list with P Use arrow key right to go to player list, use arrow up, hit right arrow key several times, game crashes...
Check your file of DayZ.RPT in your appdata
on the client and the corresponding file on the server and battleye logs on the server. If this files constantly get thousands of entries in a minute while playing it maybe causes this massive desync due to massive writing to harddisc. And maybe that way you will be able to find what causes it. This behavior happened on Arma 2 servers before. On the client side you can try to play with the -NoLogs parameter, which can reduce that desync but not remove ot aslong the errors stay.

Depending how fast you load in the microphone is open serveral seconds.
This happens always I log in. Keybind for Von is middle mouse button.
I can reproduce this on experimental build 0.44.116358 , too. It seems to be related to the Video Texture Memory settings. Game freezes up to several seconds If it is set to Auto. Changing this to 1024 fixes the problem for me.
This happens almost only in Towns.
My startup options are:
-cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -maxVmem=1024 -maxMem=4096 -malloc=tbb4malloc_bi -noFilePatching -noSplash -skipIntro -noLogs
my .profile file is set to read only, if that matters.
