Truely terrible and unplayable graphics
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I can play the game with the highest possible settings and I get a very fast framerate. However, its implossible to play for the following reasons:
1)In 1st person everything is blurred to the point of

1.1) cant see what weapon i am holding. Just a black/brown blob
1.2) cant tell the difference between a tree trunk and a zombie at 20m
1.3) cant see any detail on friends faces who are 2m away. E.g. face is just a brown smear.
  1. the inventory screen is so blurred that I cant see: 2.1) cant read how many bullets in a clip, or the total bullets. 2.2) the quick buttons at the bottom are huge, and very very low res.
  2. the max resolution (200%) is 1280x960 (or similar). I have a 2560x1600 30" panel. Why wont it let me have a higher res?

I have tried changing ALL the settings. None have any effect on the terrible inventory. Some have effects on the bad graphics. If I lower post processing and some others, its a bit sharper, but still looks like a bad 15 year old game.

I had assumed that it was just a bad game, but today I saw some amazing screen shots which were very high resolution, and where the hot key bottons at the bottom were native high res (so very small), where are mine are huge (taking up perhaps 15% of the screen) and blurred

While you wait for a official reply, try this, in game menu, configuration/video/user interface/display resolution.

Render resolution and display resolution are different things. BI's games support upsampling and downsampling, you can set up a 1080p display and render it internally at 4K (200%) to boost the graphic fidelity or, you can render at 75% to get better performance at cost of a lower graphic fidelity.

In your case, I think that your display resolution is set to minimum at that's why you're getting a 200% render resolution of 1280x960.

Hi,

At the main menu, click Configure -> Video -> User Interface and use the Resolution drop down list to select your resolution.

Make sure the Aspect Ratio option matches the aspect ratio of your resolution.

Close the config settings completely and return to the main menu.

Then open Config again, click Video and then select your resolution from the Rendering Resolution drop down list.

This should return your game back to normal resolution.

As you may not be able to read the text at the current resolution, this image will show you what you need to click: http://i.imgur.com/NFQedLW.jpg

Changing the UI resolution to native (was on 480x640) and changing the aspect ration from 4:3 to 16:10 has fixed all the issues. I would never have guessed that UI settings be the place to fix game resolution issues. Also, why were the settings so wrong in the first place? Why cant DayZ recognize the monitors resolution and aspect ratio? I am guessing this happened when I hit "default Setting" which I did shorlty after buying the game. All my Dayz friends have exactly the same issue - appalling unplayable graphics which was driving them crazy. I have shared this work around, and now they are happy. You really need to fix this.

Currently the automatic Video settings management of Dayz is utterly bugged. This needs a hotfix, quickly.

Hi kwarior,

Of course we're happy to hear that your issue was solved. The problem could, as you mention, be related to you having activated the default settings. However, we'll keep an eye out for any "automated" resets to default graphic settings so that we can report it to the devs.

In case you encounter any further problems, please feel free to open up a new issue in the Feedback Tracker.

Regards,

JStewart
