Game causes computer to freeze
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Sometimes while playing Dayz, and only while playing Dayz, the game will cause my computer to freeze. I have tested everything as much as I could. RAM passed tests, CPU passed tests, video card did a 6 hour stress test and no problems, hard drives passed tests, watched heat and power levels while playing and while not playing and they are nowhere near high levels. I can play for a few minutes sometimes and other times for hours, but it will eventually freeze my computer.

i7 2600k
8 gb corsair ddr3
asus maximus v formula
radeon 5870 2gb ddr5
windows 7 64bit
3 monitors

with these specs there is no reason for the game to freeze my computer

Please try to reproduce this issue on the latest experimental build.

When reporting a crash you need to upload a dxdiag report and the files from
C:/Users/<Name>/AppData/Local/DayZ/

If the *.rar is smaller than 5000KB, you can attach it here. If it's larger, please upload it to a file sharing website and link it here.

For future reports please refer to the "How to guide"

Thanks

Found out my problem. It was a combination of affects that caused this. It was a level 3 cpu cache stack overflow.

  1. For some reason this game uses a lot of level 3 cpu cache. It was the only program that caused problems.
  1. My processor was ever so slightly loose and needed to be reseated and tightened down.
  1. Tried to reproduce this with 3 computers. If the processor is slightly loose even just the tiniest bit, it can happen. It did it to 3 different computers when I loosened the heatsink just a bit but not enough to have the temp go up at all.
  1. I do not know what the correlation between these 2 things are, but with a lot of testing this is the error that I received. So if someone is complaining that only dayz is freezing their computer, tell them to reseat their processor.

have corsair ram (2 4gb)
I think it is bugged or have problems with dayz. Cuz I was always getting BSODs with 4gb ram, then went to shop and bought 2nd one. With 4gb - BSODs. With 8gb - "WINDOWS STOPPED YOUR BUGGED DAYZ"

When your cpu is not sitting correctly you pc could freeze not only in dayz a lot.
Freezes without BSOD occur by faulty drivers, defective hardware (could be usb, flashdrives...) and very often simply overheating. Sometimes the platines and parts on it (not main gpu/cpu) of your gpu or the mainboard get overheatet caused by heat accumulation in the case.
Sodah you need to look up that code of your BSOD gives to now what possibly causes it.

I think this issue is solved?!?

This issue can be closed. It was a hardware issue that has been fixed. A slightly improperly seated CPU was only freaking out during DayZ. Reseated CPU and IM fine.
