Hi everyone,
we're still investigating the issue, unfortunately we're unable replicate it. Meanwhile we pushed some changes and workarounds into the latest *Development* version of Arma 3 on the Steam. If you're subscribed to development version, please give it a try.

This version also contains a recovery mode: if you press and hold Ctrl+Shift before you start the Launcher (a release it after the Launcher starts) it will start in recovery mode (you will see a message box telling you about that). When the Launcher starts in a recovery mode, it will override some window placement protocols and will open its window in top left corner of your desktop.

Please let us know if it works. Also, it would be of great help for us if you could post logs from development version.

Thank you for sending us you logs, it's really appreciated. For some reason a Steam API in the Launcher can't initialize itself and can't connect with the Steam Client. We're currently investigating why is that happening.

Could you please answer me following questions:

  • Do you have UAC (User Account Control) enabled on your computer?
  • Are you administrator on your computer?
  • Do you run the Steam or the ARMA as administrator?
  • Are you participating in the Steam Beta?

@Bis Wizard.
I tried the first message thing. My cursor moves on a spot on my desktop but it seems like the launcher is invisible. When I try to move that it always crashes.

  • I've UAC disabled
  • I'm admin
  • Launching Steam or Arma or launcher or all of them as admin doesn't make any difference
  • I'm not participating in Steam Beta

I uploaded the log with a name St_Jimmy.zip

Could you try moving the Launcher's window manually? We'd like to check where on the screen the window is positioned.

Please do following:
1.) Run the Launcher.
2.) Wait until the Launcher is displayed on the taskbar.
3.) Press Alt+Space to open Launcher's system menu.
4.) Select 'Move' from the menu or press M.
5.) Press any arrow key on the keyboard.
6.) If the window is visible out of the screen bounds, it should move at cursor's position.

Didn't work...
Now it allways crashes before i'm even able to "move" it again.

Win7x64
Dev branch

Also tried to launch as admin.

But i'm able to launch ArmA3 directly by its .exe or via Steam or by using PlayWithSix and am able to play without crashes.

And no the latest patch hasn't fixed it. For every ticket that actually gets logged - there are probably 100's of users who experience the same issue.

There seems to be a method that 'fixes' this. This is not an acceptable fix though - the core issues needs resolving. So don't close this ticket as 'resolved'!

If you hold the up and down keys simultaneously for +/-3 secs then left and right simultaneously for 3 secs it clears the auto run/move issue. This 'work around' should help the developers fix the cause of this issue.

Some extra info : It happens with the Arma3 respawn module and BIS_fnc_addRespawnPosition. The auto scrolling happens most of the time when using the respawn respawnTemplates[] = {"MenuPosition"} option. The menu jumps continuously between spawn points and random selectors. Like a key is stuck. This is the same / related issue to auto movement and stuck in movement. As soon as you respawn the character model continues to move on it's own accord.

This issue and a multitude of related issues have been reported for over a year now and they just get closed by the BIS dev team as resolved or too minor to bother with! This auto scroll/run move issue has not been resolved just look at all these related tickets marked closed! And there are a lot more but I'm not going to waste my time looking for them because this ticket like all the rest will probably just get closed and deleted with no action!.

Is anyone at BIS actually reading these tickets?! Nice to know how much time we are wasting! It needs attention urgently!! Personally I would fire a few people at BIS because of this. It's total BS! I for one have better things to do with my time than wasting it, beta testing your game for you! I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in this.

Here is something else I noticed that might be related to this issue.

When mission parameters permit the use of vehicles/aircraft from other factions, dying inside as a driver/pilot results in rightfully deducted points for losing the unit. However, conversely, if you destroy that same captured vehicle/aircraft while it's not manned then the game awards you points.

Rather than a bug, this could be a mere logical hole in design of the scoring system. Just thought it might be related to the reported issue if, as TakeHomeTheCup suggested, the problem in question is actually a feature.

Aaaand now they have no illumination at all.
Because apparently you cannot adjust brightness of a reticle on a collimator sight.

And then again if you look at for example an Eotech XPS3...
"Brightness:
20 daylight settings
10 additional settings for Gen I through III+ night vision devices"

Hi,

thank you for you patience. We're currently investigating the possibility, that the Launcher and the Steam are isolated from each other by operating system. It could be connected to the fact you're not an administrator.

I'd like to ask you do following on the computer where you're having problem (where you're not the administrator):

  1. Run the Launcher.
  2. Run the Steam.
  3. Open Command prompt.
  4. Type and run following command: tasklist /V > willymattash_tasklist.txt
  5. That command should create willymattash_tasklist.txt in your profile folder. That file contains a list of processes running on your computer.
  6. Please upload the file here (if you couln't find the file, type 'start .' in the Command Prompt).

If UAC is referring to the window asking for an admin password, then yes. I was not admin on the PC that is having problem now. But I WAS admin on the PC that is working properly now. Steam is not set as admin on PC with problem, nor arma. I am not in steam beta. My internet speed was recently increased on the download side, so I can most certainly try the dev build on PC having issue.

NOTE: the only difference between PC that works and one that doesn't is that I am not admin. Please let me know if that is in fact the only problem.

Also, forgot to add, all the links you sent have already been installed by Steam, so those ARE there. Just for some reason, which I'm sure the logs may explain, it won't see the Steam service and stay open.

The new updated launcher is still doing the same thing. Its telling me to make sure the client is running, which it is. Anyways, I uploaded both .rpt files in the \logs directory.

Careless doesn't mean the AI will ignore voluntarily the enemy, it will just hang around with less situational awareness, but if activated (spots an enemy or is being shot at for example) it will automatically enter combat behavior regardless.

it never shows up for me, last time i waited about that too 5 minutes or even more and it was still blank. Sometimes if i refresh or play around with the filters, once i press ok some servers will pop out but right after it disappear.
I can only reproduce this by leaving the arma 3 game and going back to it.

Same here. Serverlist doesn't show up at all, or takes ages (up to 5 minutes) until I see something. And IF the list shows up, there are only 5 - 10 servers in it.

I'm also experiencing very slow refreshing. It takes a while to fetch the servers, and sometimes nothing even shows up at all and I have to restart the game. It's not unusual for me to restart the game several times before the server list loads properly.

We need crash dump files from this folder for solve your problem.
C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\Arma 3\
Can you upload somewhere in winrar package please?
When package will be smaller than 5000k, you can attach it here. When package is bigger, please use some free sharing service and post link here.

How to find correct crashdump file:
Try to make the crash happen
Look into crashdump folder
Upload crashdump with latest date in name (crashdump is rpt + bidmp + mdmp file with same name). Please try to provide as many crashdumps as possible, it helps us investigating the problem in a big way.

Just been to check on this tree and unfortunately it is still airborne.
It just needs dropping down about 1.5 meters.
