@lagrange
you're definitely right. It seems to me that many of the issues I've seen with guns not functioning properly (according to reality) have been due to the game not keeping track of whether or not a round is chambered. The coding seems to ONLY have a number associated with how may rounds are loaded. But DOESN'T recognize that there is a difference between a round loaded and a round chambered.

That's why when loading the shotgun, there is not room for a 7th round even after chambering the first round. Even though there should be, according to how a gun works.

PS- A side note along with that, you should be able to add rounds to the tube of the pump shotgun at any time without needing to unload (i have a separate report for that).

The V3S clipping/falling through the ground seems to happen in many areas from what Ive seen, not only a few specific spots (primarily when not on a flat surface, yours is the first I've heard of it happening on a road).

Up until i read this i didn't know it happened on some roads as well.

KahLeeb added a comment to T106814: [Suggestion] allow map to pair with compass.

@SgtPotatoes
I get what you're arguing, but as you say yourself, "There isn't anything that can be done to keep players from using Steam overlay or VOIP", so there is little chance anyone will be learning to navigate properly (in a realistic way) in-game. Leaving little to no utility for the map and compass.

You don't even seem to need a compass or map currently, with the sun in the south and the moon in the west, i never even pick up a compass..

  1. Players know that their shadow is pointing NNW. So why use the compass?
  2. Players know that there are better maps they can alt-tab to than the in-game map. So why collect map pieces to make a full map?

As for the "brutal realism" that you mention, i don't see my character needing to evacuate his bowels or urinate or sleep. In real life I've never died from thirst when i didn't drink several canteens of water or from a fountain 20 times a day. And a couple cans of food is plenty to fill a human stomach not to mention you wont be on the edge of death if you don't eat for a day, or two...or three. Military bases don't leave guns laying around and under beds. To properly zero a scope you need to understand and know what a MOA is. A person cant sprint endlessly without building up lactic acid and feeling muscle fatigue. A real wound doesn't necessarily need a bandage to stop bleeding, and sometimes a bandage isn't enough to stop bleeding. And I don't know about you but I've never seen a zombie before.

Do you know how to disassemble, clean and reassemble an m4, mosin, pump shotgun, AUG, and 1911? because you're suggesting that players shouldn't be able to use the weapon cleaning kit unless they do.

Do you know how to replace a car engine? Because you're suggesting that a player shouldn't be able to repair their car (which will soon be implemented)unless they know how do so in real life.

Do you know how to properly gut and dress a hunted kill? Because you're suggesting that a player shouldn't be able to do so in-game unless they know how to do so in real life?

The key is not realism, but Simulated Realism. Which means a sense of realism, or similarity to reality or imitation of reality.

What I'm suggesting is to give value to these items (map&compass) while maintaining a simulated reality, because currently they have no value.

Using the function key with a map&compass to attempt to navigate is hardly unrealistic, especially in comparison to these other examples.

KahLeeb added a comment to T106814: [Suggestion] allow map to pair with compass.

Ultimately the goal should be that players are not tabbing out of the game to use a third party map to figure out their location.

KahLeeb added a comment to T106391: Reports of gunshot sound bug is still present but is a "sometimes happens" case.

I can confirm that this is still at least partially an issue. My friend and i decided to start using guns to kill zombies in towns in order to become more comfortable using guns and in firefights in Dayz.

Anyway..

While shooting all of the zombies in multiple towns, we noticed that usually the shots could be heard by the opposite player but sometimes they couldn't.

I didn't notice any specific circumstances that dictate whether or not a sound is made for others. But i can say we were never further apart than 50 meters while shooting, so we should have heard the shots every time.

KahLeeb added a comment to T106167: Military Toxicity (High-End Civilian Loot).

Considering ALL gear, I'm a civilian, and i have within the room I'm sitting in about as much gear as I've ever found in one of the barracks in dayz.

(i know you're talking about civilian clothing not guns, ill touch on that at the end)

Within my line of sight right now i can see 2 AR15s in gun bags, a pump 12 gauge, a 91/30 Mosin (literally the same gun from the game, they're super cheap and common IRL, i think i paid 100$ for it), there is a revolver and ammunition on my desk (i have a concealed carry license), I see an ammo can in the corner (which i know is full of 7.62 and .223) there are a couple of surplus canteens on my dresser (just got them at a gun show last week because they were 2$ each), i see another hiking canteen, and a couple of knives. I see a tan canvas courier bag, a snow-camo backpack, and a black backpack i use for my laptop. There is a weapon cleaning kit on top of the ammo can and there is another one in the drawer of this desk. I have a heavy tan hunting jacket, a black wool coat, and a lot of warm clothing in my closet. there are several 30rd magazines in a drawer behind me, and there is also a Beretta m9 in that same drawer as well as couple holsters.

Granted I live in Michigan, US, and its not too uncommon to have these things where I live, especially if your hobbies include shooting and hiking.
But my point is that military bases are not the only place good loot can be found in real life. And to me it doesn't make sense that the only way you can get the best gear is to go to the military buildings.

As far as how everyone ends up being in camo, the highest quality civilian gear is still likely to be either a form of camo, or plain tan or plain black. However civilian camo is usually not exactly matching military camo (since there are a ton of camo patterns available.
For example almost all of my camo gear is white with black brush overlay. because its snowy more than a third of the year here.

KahLeeb added a comment to T101562: [SUGGESTION] zombies have realistic loot.

I'm totally fine with zombies having pretty much Any gear (including guns and ammo) that makes logical sense.

(for example: pistol and handcuff on a cop, military cloths and ammunition/magazines on military zombies, common items on civilian zombies)

BUT..
I think that non-ruined item quality on zombies is what should be rare/uncommon.

This way zombie loot would function more like the following:
"I know that military zombie probably has military loot, but that loot is most likely ruined, and even if it isn't ruined, it certainly isn't pristine."

KahLeeb added a comment to T99174: Invisible Zombies.

This happened to me Jan 6th, 2015. 0.52 Stable Version

I was at NWAF (jailhouse) a zombie followed me inside, so i ran up the stairs and closed the door behind me, leaving the zombie outside. But the zombie was invisible and was in the room with me attacking me (various spots in the room, i was not standing by the door), it sounded like i was hitting it back with my melee weapon but I couldn't tell for sure.
When i opened the door the zombie (visually) was still standing outside the door at the top of the stairs, not moving, however when i hit the visible zombie in the head it died and i was no longer being attacked by the invisible one.
