Exact same thing happens to me. Saved games disappear for no reason. Before it worked fine. Been happening just recently.
Just tried your workaround and it works. Hope this gets fixed since steam makes things easy, including automatic updates.

This happens to me all the time after about an hour of play on both singleplayer and multiplayer. It is very consistent for me. After it crashes in a singleplayer mission, reloading a saved game does absolutely no good. The loaded saved game crashes in less than a minute. First the screen freezes, then a couple seconds later the sound freezes. I have to go to task manager and shut down Arma because it's not responding.
This makes long singleplayer missions completely unplayable. After an hour of play no matter what I can't continue with the mission. I have to restart the mission from the beginning, so I can never finish a mission.
This didn't happen to me in the Alpha version of the game. I didn't play the Beta version. My singleplayer missions are downloaded from Steam Workshop.
I uploaded a simple singleplayer mission. Your feedback tracker wouldn't let me upload a .PBO file so I changed it to .txt. Basically I ran around the town with this squad until someone (the grenadier) got stuck in a building. Even though he was standing in front of an open doorway he wouldn't come out with any of my commands to move.
I also moved the squad to the southern tip of the island. I went into the ocean near some big boulders. My squad wouldn't follow me in. I exited the ocean a ways away and 4 squad members stayed stuck near my entry point into the ocean. No move or regroup commands could make them move.
Getting stuck like this is what I would like to have fixed.
Since this game is being offered on Steam, maybe this could be integrated with Steam somehow. And if so, make missions easy to install with a mouse click or two.
Completely agree.
I grew up on a farm. They sound realistic to me.
I second this. I hope the developers will continue to make improving performance a top priority.
I can confirm this on the user created single player mission "Whole Lotta Stratis" by SaOK. At first it took about 1.5 minutes to save. Now I've played the mission for about 6 hours, two-thirds completed, and it takes about 5 minutes to save.
I hope this can be fixed.
Thanks for your reply, you would know better than me. I will contact the authors of the addons about this. However, one thing I should have mentioned in my report is that when the addons don't work, all of them don't work. It's not that some work and some don't, all the addons stop working at the same time. When I respawn and they work again, all of them are working again.
This makes me wonder if it has something to do with BIS code, but I'm not a programmer so I don't really know. Like I said, I will contact the authors of the addons I use. Thanks again.
Title should read
Can't play any single player missions in the new scenario option
I don't see an option to edit my original report, so I'm correcting it in this note.
This is working now. Please close this issue as resolved.
I guess Oculus Rift is the new religion.
For the record, I actually up voted this, since the concept seems great if it can be made to work. Might not work for me, though, since I'm one of the 10% that occasionally have to look at the keyboard.
Flame on, dudes!
How do you wear an oculus rift and effectively use a keyboard to play? Especially in a game like Arma which has so many keybindings. I have to look at my keyboard to press the right keys every now and then. If oculus rift is implemented in Arma 3 this has to be taken into account.
Maybe this doesn't need to be mentioned, but if this is implemented and you are playing against AI, please BIS, make sure that enemy AI guns can jam too. I can just imagine bug reports that say, "my gun jams, but the enemy's never does!"
Please accept this as a helpful heads up.
It should be an option to use for those that want it, and the mod doesn't always work as implemented with CBA now. See the BI forum on this mod for more details. So have BIS put it in the game as part of Arma 3 and make it work. It can be an option for those that want to use it. Not forced on anybody, but available to those who want it.
I can confirm this. I have been playing the Whole Lotta Stratis mission in singleplayer. As I progress in the mission and save it to come back later it takes longer and longer to both load the mission and after playing save the mission. Waited over 5 minutes the last time I tried it. Gave up, brought up Windows task manager and it said Arma 3 was not responding. Tried this again a few times with the same result.

Yeah, have RMB bring to your face to look through, and click RMB again to lower them, but still hold onto them, so you can use normal vision to change the direction of your gaze and then click RMB to bring up the binoculars again.
Developers please get a real set of binoculars, go outside, and use them. You don't always have them glued to your face when you want to change the direction you are looking at. Sometimes you lower them while still holding onto them, change the direction of your gaze, and then raise them to your face to look through them again. It needs to work like this in game.
