Unstick AI option
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I'm playing single player scenario Whole Lotta Stratis, version .74. This mission creates reinforcements for you when your AI squad memebers die. They spawn in your general location, but not next to you. A couple of my AI reinforcements spawned at the southern tip of the island and won't move, no matter what orders I give them. So I'm short two AI squad members unless I go down there and kill them so they will respawn somewhere else.

You have many feedback reports on AI getting stuck. I propose you implement an AI squad unstick option that allows the player to select the stuck AI and respawn him in a new location so that he can hopefully continue on his way. Another way to do it I suppose would be to select the stuck AI and then the AI has the power to walk through anything (walls, rocks, trees, etc.) for a short distance until he gets unstuck.

The basic idea is that the player is able to tag/identify stuck AI and the Arma program figures out a way to get them unstuck, thru brute force if need be. Stuck AI are worse than dead AI. {F18944}

Play a game with AI squad mates. One of them will get stuck eventually.

Additional Information

PS. for some reason the Arma feedback tracker is not giving me the option to select a priority for this report, as well as the last couple reports I created. It will automatically assign a priority of none, but I would say this is a high, but not major priority. It's not a show stopper, but would be nice to have.

We are unable to find any way to reproduce that as we have too many unknown factors involved as this is - I presume - user made mission.

If you can; please send us some simple mission on vanilla version of actual ARMA 3 where the issue occurs and we can find out whats happening.

Thank you.

I uploaded a simple singleplayer mission. Your feedback tracker wouldn't let me upload a .PBO file so I changed it to .txt. Basically I ran around the town with this squad until someone (the grenadier) got stuck in a building. Even though he was standing in front of an open doorway he wouldn't come out with any of my commands to move.

I also moved the squad to the southern tip of the island. I went into the ocean near some big boulders. My squad wouldn't follow me in. I exited the ocean a ways away and 4 squad members stayed stuck near my entry point into the ocean. No move or regroup commands could make them move.

Getting stuck like this is what I would like to have fixed.

This 'unresponsive AI' bug happens in lots of missions, it happened in ArmA 2 and also in the alpha.
See this ticket that also has a video link to a mission where the AI gets bugged out; http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=5443

1 place where the AI gets bugged out often is under the first bridge in Agia Marina, seems to be a pathfinding issue, in other area's it seems to be the old 'pistol bug' where you see the AI team sitting with pistols drawn and unable to follow orders and move anymore (as shown in the video).

We are very sorry, this issue was closed as duplicate.
