Hello,

To begin with I would recommend that you try to verify the integrity of the game cache:

  1. Start Steam and right click on DayZ in your game library (make sure that the game is not running).
  2. Select the tab labeled "Local Files".
  3. Click on the button labeled "Verify integrity of game cache...".
  4. Start DayZ once the process is complete.

If this does not solve the problem, here's a suggestion that is a bit more drastic. Please be aware though; you might have to reinstall your other Steam games afterwards:

  1. Move the entire "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps" folder to your desktop. Your "SteamApps" folder should now be at the following location: "C:\Users\<username>\Desktop\SteamApps".
  2. Move the "DayZ" folder out of the "C:\Users\<username>\Desktop\SteamApps\common" folder and subsequently delete the "DayZ" folder.
  3. Uninstall Steam while making sure the "SteamApps" folder is still on your desktop.
  4. Install a new version of Steam.
  5. Go to the new "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps" folder.
  6. Move everything inside the old "SteamApps" folder on your desktop to the new "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps" folder.
  7. Install DayZ again.

In case this does not solve your problem either, I can have a look at your account in the character database if you send me a link for your Steam Profile ID.

We are aware of this issue #0021567 and it has been fixed internally.Please retest once next Steam patch is out and report back incase the issue reappears.

I get what you're arguing, but as you say yourself, "There isn't anything that can be done to keep players from using Steam overlay or VOIP", so there is little chance anyone will be learning to navigate properly (in a realistic way) in-game. Leaving little to no utility for the map and compass.

You don't even seem to need a compass or map currently, with the sun in the south and the moon in the west, i never even pick up a compass..

  1. Players know that their shadow is pointing NNW. So why use the compass?
  2. Players know that there are better maps they can alt-tab to than the in-game map. So why collect map pieces to make a full map?

As for the "brutal realism" that you mention, i don't see my character needing to evacuate his bowels or urinate or sleep. In real life I've never died from thirst when i didn't drink several canteens of water or from a fountain 20 times a day. And a couple cans of food is plenty to fill a human stomach not to mention you wont be on the edge of death if you don't eat for a day, or two...or three. Military bases don't leave guns laying around and under beds. To properly zero a scope you need to understand and know what a MOA is. A person cant sprint endlessly without building up lactic acid and feeling muscle fatigue. A real wound doesn't necessarily need a bandage to stop bleeding, and sometimes a bandage isn't enough to stop bleeding. And I don't know about you but I've never seen a zombie before.

Do you know how to disassemble, clean and reassemble an m4, mosin, pump shotgun, AUG, and 1911? because you're suggesting that players shouldn't be able to use the weapon cleaning kit unless they do.

Do you know how to replace a car engine? Because you're suggesting that a player shouldn't be able to repair their car (which will soon be implemented)unless they know how do so in real life.

Do you know how to properly gut and dress a hunted kill? Because you're suggesting that a player shouldn't be able to do so in-game unless they know how to do so in real life?

The key is not realism, but Simulated Realism. Which means a sense of realism, or similarity to reality or imitation of reality.

What I'm suggesting is to give value to these items (map&compass) while maintaining a simulated reality, because currently they have no value.

Using the function key with a map&compass to attempt to navigate is hardly unrealistic, especially in comparison to these other examples.

'Press X to Navigate' is not something DayZ needs to be doing. Brutal realism has been the goal since the start, meaning if you want to use a map and compass, you learn how to actually use a real map and compass. There isn't anything that can be done to keep players from using Steam overlay or VOIP, and sacrificing an opportunity to learn an actual skill from a videogame is not worth it.

Sorry to hear about your trouble. To begin with, please try the following:

  1. Start DayZ and enter the Main Menu.
  2. Click the button labeled "Configure".
  3. Click the button labeled "Video".
  4. Click the button labeled "User Interface".
  5. Select your appropriate resolution from the dropdown menu.
  6. Select a proper aspect ratio and exit to the Main Menu.

Since the button labels might not be legible in your game due to the current User Interface resolution, you can use the following link to see which buttons to click: http://i.imgur.com/tkxBYQ6.jpg

After performing these steps, it should be possible for you to select a proper ingame resolution and screen aspect ratio.

In case you still experience performance issues after changing the resolution, please feel free to submit a new ticket for this.

Note 1:
Issue was resolved after resetting the house modem a 4th time. I believe that this was caused by conflicting IP addresses and I have set up Static IP addresses across the entire network. Hopefully this prevents any similar behavior in the future.

I'm sorry, but at this point we'll have to let go of your participation on the Feedback Tracker.

While we do appreciate players being passionate about the project and the development of the game, we do not at all appreciate comments like "So now the next year will come and: FIX THIS BULLSHIT of deleting all the time the items out of my inventory! How many hours will be lost by this Trainee code!?!". Especially not on a subject that has already been filed several times before.

Additionally:
"But the most bugs are VERY old or came back with update." - This is not at all uncommon during development.

"But you are not able to test and Play if your stuff get deleted be no real reason." - Loot is not difficult to get hold of and testing is not necessarily limited to just items.

"And stuff get deleted by now order of your backpack IS A BUG -.- It is an very old bug btw." - No argument here. However, there is no reason to deliberately file a duplicate ticket on a known issue.

"Deleted Stuff from the 6st layer (without any warning) is also a bug." - This is not a seperate bug. Once the bug related to stacking clothing inside other clothing is fixed, this would no longer be an issue. Also, deliberately exploiting broken game mechanics in order to gain an ingame advantage will not be tolerated.

"heirfuhrer: Thanks for your comment. This will get us further. And also the Content depents on the text. So please, do it! Thanks, shoot yourself" - Comments like these towards other users on the Feedback Tracker will not at all be accepted. The Feedback Tracker is not to be used as a forum and verbal attacks on other users will not be tolerated.

Yes i was stuck in a house and needed support, your point? That doesn't change the fact that your comments were not comprehensible and very rude. If this is how you provide feedback to the devs, its no small wonder that issues you have reported have not been addressed yet.

Also, if you are saying that your level of feedback is worth 18 euros/hour, you are incorrect. In fact if you were under my employ as a software tester and you began behaving in this way I would fire you on the spot.

You can and should expect your stuff to disappear from time to time as they make changes, up to and including your entire character. These guys are working hard, and don't need this type of stupid ticket clogging up the queue. Your message is simply ranting, quite rude and not even comprehensible. I would hope and expect they close this ticket without further action on their part due to your douche baggery.

hey haroldstoneworthy,
i tested dayZ now over 1000 hours (transform it in monay (1300 hours * 18€/h = 23400€ NETTO)) and posted (i think so) more bugs, glitshes, damn cheating sides, graphic error as you or your guy posted before in this ticked to help the devs to make this game playable.
We all know that this is an Alpha so we test this bugs, glitshes etc to Close them.
So over 1000h i know whats pssible about bugs etc.
But the most bugs are VERY old or came back with update.
But you are not able to test and Play if your stuff get deleted be no real reason.
And stuff get deleted by now order of your backpack IS A BUG -.- It is an very old bug btw.
Deleted Stuff from the 6st layer (without any warning) is also a bug.
Btw haroldstoneworthy: Your only ticked you help was "you stuck in a house". So this is only for yourself and no help for other Players by posting real bugs.

Hi,
as stated above, the weapon switch animation will either be performed while the character is standing still or while it is moving, depending on whether you started the animation while moving or still.
While it is currently considered to be the intended state, we are working on animations and this should be resolved eventually - please be patient.

You have to run forward when changing weapons, then your character will continue to jog forward as he is switching. If you are strafing sideways or standing when switching weapons, your character will be glued to the ground.

Issue voted up. This needs to be changed, definitely!

In fact, a lot of movement needs to be improved.
