If I tell you the reason for not clicking the play button you'll think that is the issue and not the server list

If you drop out of a server, it's hard to find that server again

Or to make the last played server persistent?

Is there a plan to make the last selected tag persistent?

I suffered from this on a machine with crossfired AMD R9 390s, visiting the video settings would refocus the render, previous to that it happened on crossfired 290s

Recently I've been playing on a machine with SLI'd NVidia Titans and it's never occurred (though there are generally no zombie hits right now)
