Most likely a memory editor to change the value of the bullets on the magazine. It's one of the simplest cheats that exist, yet it's easily used in DayZ due to all the vulnerabilities in the game.
I just wish the devs could aknowledge this problem so I could move on until the problem was patched (hopefully), but it's terrible to report things on this forums since we never know if your report was actually seen by any dev.
If I remember correctly the devs already "solved" this issue before, but that was before the shotgun was added in the game. Not sure if this bug still happens with ammo boxes currently, but with shotguns it certainly happens when the game tries to rearrange the items in your backpack when you log in.
@Fastburn: OP here (I didn't realize I posted as guest before). While I agree in parts with you, I think there should be a mid point between realism and gameplay balancing.
If a player managed to knock you down, steal your rifle and kill you, he probably deserved all the items he looted from your corpse since he was fast enough to accomplish that. This is totally different from a player that was lucky to make you go unconscious with a single attack since he doesn't have to be fast enough to steal the rifle while you are down since you won't stand up anyway while you are unconscious.
In my opinion this is one of the most important things that the devs should be working on.
When I saw the system requirements to play this game I thought I would be able to run the game smoothly at least on the lowest settings but I'm having a hard time trying to play the game with a extremely low FPS.
My computer is not very good but that doesn't explain the 9 FPS I'm experiencing inside Cherno or Elektro. When I run some hardware monitoring programs while running DayZ they show an usage of about only 50% of my GPU, leaving all excess rendering to my processor which is unable to process everything.
I don't mind waiting for months until the performance is improved (it's on alpha after all), but if it doesn't, I'll have wasted my money because I wouldn't have bought the game if the system requirements provided showed I wouldn't be able to run it decently
I agree. After picking an item from the ground or from your inventory it should remain on your hand unless you manually switch to another item with your mouse or the hotbar. For canned food, for example, it requires you to put the item four times on your hand before you manage to eat it all.
Agree. There's no reason not to allow us to reload a half empty magazine so I guess it was just a minor mistake.
Video showing a guy reloading a Mosin-Nagant:

Reloading the rifle is pretty much like reloading a normal magazine clip, so you can do it with the magazine only half empty.
Happened with me today. Unless I put the magazine or bullet pack in my inventory before I try to empty them the bullets will simply vanish.
Just happened with me. Killed a guy and when I was looting, the corpse vanished and I lost a fully upgrade M4.
This issue is really gamebreaking and I hope the devs can focus their attention on this problem ASAP. I shot 15 bullets at the poor guy and the only thing I got from him in time was a packet of rifle bullets lol/
Confirmed. I had 4 magazines in my inventory and for some reason the game kept showing the options to reload even though the magazine inserted in my M4 was full. Every time I pressed the F key the reload options appeared, which caused me a lot of unwanted reloading, but it was only after I had a full backpack that a magazine vanished from my inventory.
I think the main problem is the status indication, not the fact our chars needs too much food or water.
To become healthy you have to consume food and water beyond the point where you no longer see the green icons in your inventory, and after you reached this point it takes a long time until your char becomes hungry or thirst again.
I'm having an easy time finding enough food to make me healthy so I don't think this is a problem right now. However, I would like to see a better system to show us how hungry or thirst our chars really are.
That's irrelevant. The information displayed on your screen should be the same and the difference is the quality of what you will see. Players should fully render even on very low settings.
