Encountered the same issue here, to expand on the first post here what's happening:
player is put into revive state
- at this point the curator logic doesn't have a unit assigned anymore, it returns <NULL OBJECT> (tested with getAssignedCuratorUnit <name of the logic>.
upon respawning the assigned unit still is <NULL OBJECT>.
My tests were run on 1.54.133741 unmodded.
This seems to be caused by the game engine when the cpu enters a deadlock state, I have first hand experience of this issue.

More seriously the flash should be lessened.
If you integrate it they way it's described in the original post this is going to add a very powerful tool for addon cross compatibility.
Please consider this.
Our unit do night missions pretty often, the ability to see a bit further with high beams would be very appreciated.
On the flip side using low beams could be used to reduce the detectability of your vehicle while still retaining the ability to see the road in front of you.
Very good idea overall.
