Massive FPS drop when looking into city.
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

I have a pretty high-end PC. I have an Radeon 7850, AMD 975 Quad Core 3.6 Ghz, and 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM. I have been having massive frame-rate drops when I look into city areas. I experienced this tonight in electro and I had a bunch of friends who have Intel I5's and great GPU's who were having frame-rate drops as well. I understand it's in Alpha, but can this issue be resolved quickly? I have moved my settings down and got very small improvement. Maybe 5 FPS at most. {F28173} {F28174} {F28175} {F28176} {F28177} {F28178} {F28179} {F28180} {F28181} {F28182} {F28183}

so, almost 6 months are gone, whats the status? or will it take years instead of months? -.-

I have noticed as well in some towns/cities. One recently is Zelenogorsk drops to 15fps on normal to low settings.

Intel i7 920 @ 3ghz
12GB Ram
Asus 6970 Direct CUII 2GB
Win 7 64bit

A friend of mine said it maybe network-related, there could be so many possibilities. As best as I can describe when I experience lag, is when I look towards a building or any structure. I have red that the dev team have identified a problem with geometry of some buildings, hopefully we will hear more news on this.

I have looked at my CPU, GPU, RAM and VRAM utilization levels on the 'low' graphics preset when walking next to buildings and my results are:

CPU: 50-60%
GPU: 20-30%
RAM: 45%
VRAM: 25%

My computer specifications are below:
CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q9400 @2.66GHz
GPU: R9 270x @1.1GHz
RAM: 6GB DDR2 @800MHz (Dual channel)
VRAM: 2GB GDDR5 @1.4GHz

I hope this may help, if not please ask us as a community how we can help :)

I don't understand why you guys keep sending your specs etc. It's most likely a waste of time because the information you're providing is about the old renderer, and since they're implementing a new one they're obviously not going to fix this one. Target implementation is in the first quarter of 2015: http://dayz.com/blog/dayz-moving-into-2015

@Quazoosl: It just became I got the biggest kind of thread, I'm going to unsubscribe from that

@Dewulf, low quality also do nothing, because when you have "normal cpu" power, its still to less for the objects/geometry

so they NEED to implement the new renderer quickly!

Paper26 added a subscriber: Paper26.May 8 2016, 2:02 PM

Yes, needs to be fixed absolutely.

If you look into a city, the game is rendering all the loot the same time. Even if you cannot see it!

"Will be reviewed with new renderer implementation"
Someone here who can talk about the progress?

e_xil added a comment.Dec 31 2014, 9:13 AM

i would also like to know the progress to this.,.!

Q1 = New renderer, so be patient. They are going to fix it when they first get their new renderer in. Let them have their holidays.

Is this problem getting better maybe with the next patch already?

Problem ist also appearing to me.

Only 30-40 FPS in Cherno, from outside looking on the whole town even less.

May caused by the fact that DayZ is a 32 Bit application at the moment, am I right?

I dont think it matters what spec you have, it happens to everyone across the game, mostly in novo and svetlo ive found.

Running from Military base to vybor 56FPS looking to the side.
Entering vybor and looking into it 10 FPS.

MSI GTX 970 4GGB DDR5
16 GB DDR3 RAM
Intel I3
Samsung SSD

Nvidia 560ti video card, and i7-3820 processer user, on windows 7 64 bit.

Performence is ok (but not 60fps) in forests, but in major cities I'm getting FPS in the single digit zone.

"but still get only 60 fps in the wilderness dropping drastically in cities."

In don't like people saying "I get ONLY 60FPS". 60 is more than enough. For playing fine everything more than 30-35 is ok.

I have a Intel Core i5 4590 and a AMD Radeon R9 285 OC. I play with everything on "high", with AA, Edge Smoothing and so on. I get about 45FPS in the wilderness.

In the cities, with very low settings or with very high settings, not more than 15FPS.

I have a 4790k @4GHz with a GTX 780 and play on medium high settings but still get only 60 fps in the wilderness dropping drastically in cities. Everything happens when my GPU doesn't even heat up to 60 degrees Celsius. I hope for alot of optimalization ASAP.

For the vast majority of people their monitor refresh rate is no more than 60hz, therefore the monitor CANNOT display more than 60fps, So unless you have a 120hz or higher monitor aiming to get more than 60fps is a waste of time.

Fr a lot of games the physics and other shit is tied to fps. In dayZ you get lower rate of fire on low fps.

In a "perfect" system where the fps wasn't tied to the simulation of the game you don't need more that your monitor refresh rate.

In CSGO you can tell the difference between 200 fps and 60 fps on a 60 Hz dispaly.

Also you'll want a buffer for FPS drops that will happen.

Bugs still appear for me after 1 minute of gameplay or even when i log in can't even play.

Fps is getting worse from patch to patch.

Not getting any better and it never will.

Dec 2013 this thread was first posted and its still getting worse. Just added insects to the game and FPS drop.

How come the published DayZ demo videos all look good? But we, the public, see massively low FPS whilst in Town.

Come on Dev team, admit it. You're stringing us along....

Let me guess, when the new Renderer comes out, it'll be as buggy as hell?

First quarter of 2015 you tell us? Well only 29 days to go then...

I predict another problem will pop up and the Renderer will be delayed.

This month will make or break it Devs....Hope you're up to the task of the negative feedback. :(

Well im playing on

SPECS UNKNOWN
AND I GET A BIT OF LAG/FPS DROPS WHEN IN TOWNS
BUT IS IT CAUSE MY PING OR WHAT CAUSE IM NORMALLY ON SERVERS WITH 100-69 PING

My only frame drop is in Zelenogorsk. It is a massive frame drop, making the game nearly unplayable in that city. However, along the outskirts (for example, the barracks) I have very little, but some, performance loss.

System:
Radeon R290 (4gb VRAM)
AMD FX-8350 (8-cores) @4.0GHz
8gb DDR3 RAM

Hi all,

to get rid of the FPS drops u need to set up your graphic drivers´s Power managment mode to "prefer maximum performance" or use a third party application to force your card to maximum performance.

(I personally don´t recommend third party applications to do this)<<<<<<

The low fps occur cuz DayZ is under clocking your graphic cards clock speed at the moment.

I only have a geforce 780 3GB and a first Gen I7 x990 with 12 GB RAM and get now stable 80-100 FPS in normal cities and 40-60 in very big cities with highest graphic settings on 1920x1080.

Hope it will help u guys with the FPS problem.

best regards
Zet-

This can not be the solution for this.

The solution needs to get delivered by the devs, not by the users.

Best example of a game with FPS-Drops and user-solutions: Final Fantasy 13 and 13-2 for PC.

The devs aren't doing anything for the users.

i have the same issue, a high-end gaming pc but when i visit any town greater than 30 houses the frames will drop like crazy, specally in the north.
My cpu/gpu/mem i just normal at 40 - 60 % usage, so its clearly a game problem.

e_xil added a comment.Mar 20 2015, 3:29 PM

thx@zettakagi, i will look into it.. but i think the thing is, if you have a strong cpu ("first gen") like i7 this issue is not coming.. or so strong..

so still the devs have to do something,.. the graphics in dayz are really not this "high end" that older, but good pcs should get this low fps in bigger citties

I justed tried to play DayZ.. I was running into Kamenka. Absolutely impossible to play now this game..

FPS-Drops down to 5 FPS and lower.. Every 2 oder 3 seconds a massive drop.

What DayZ needs is a completely new engine and not the old one just "bigger"..
Because the old engine is sooo extremely buggy...

You have way enough money now, why don't you implement a completely new engine?

A few years ago Bohemia developped a engine it was called V3* or VS** I don't know. Why you do not use this engine? Every engine is way much better than the current engine!

The problem is also that here in the feedback tracker you devs a way more occupied with "stucked" users than everything else..

Frames still some kind of very bad in 0.55 like in 0.54 and 0.53.

Frmes drops very often down to 2 or 1 for about 20 seconds.

When entering in a city the frames also go down very fast for some seconds.

Very often the frames go down and most of the textures gets reloaded.

I'm have same problem look at video ... https://youtu.be/FA_sOB_jKA0 [^]

The new renderer is targeted for mid May 2015 according to reports, From what I have heard it is expected that this will solve the low FPS, Here's hoping :D

Edit. " I guess the reports were wrong :D "

I've got Intel i7 4770, SSD Samsung 840 pro with DayZ on, EVGA GTX980 ACX2.0 and 16GB ram.
Running DayZ in FHD (1920*1080), @ 144hz.

Putting everything at max except objects.
No blur, no ambient oclusion.

Objects very low in city > 40 fps
Objects very low outside city > 90 fps

Objects low in city > 35 fps
Objects low outside city > 90 fps

Objects normal in city > 32 fps
Objects normal outside city > 68 fps

Objects high in city > 28 fps
Objects high outside city > 45 fps

Objects very high in city > 22 fps or less
Objects very high outside city > 40 fps

GPU doesn't seem to be load 100%
CPU nevers goes up to 40%
DayZ eats like 2.8Gb ram.
SSD doesn't seem to be used.

Hope it helps.

I'm running DayZ on Intel i7 4790 and AMD Radeon R9 270OC and 8 GB of RAM.
Played Far Cry 4 on Very High settings with vsync on and had 60 FPS all the time.

With DayZ it doesn't matter which settings I'm running it on I still get FPS drops in larger cities and towns. With vsync on, I get 60FPS all the time in wilderness but in towns it drops to roughly 20-30 FPS.

It is still playable, but seeing GTA V running 60 FPS on PC smoothly in a huge city seems funny.

i7 4770k, 16gb ram, geforce gtx960.

big fps drops here in some cities too. Chapaevsk is absolute hell.

I have medium end computer..

i5-4460
GTX960
8GB ram

there is still fps drops for me in 0.55 patch. Before the 0.55 and 0.54 patch , i got 30-35 fps in towns like elektro, svetlo etc..

Hope there will be a hotfix very soon.

I must admit you should take a look on this problem, mayby it's optimalization? I have Windows 7 64 bit, i5 3570k, GTX 570 (overclocked 795 MHz core, 2150 MHz memory, 1590 MHz shader clock), 8 Gb CL-9 Kingston RAM, all setting, set to lowest possible, and card memory usage auto, even tried 1024x768 resolution and in towns, and cities I am geting FPS drop quite noticable. Dunno how much FPS is it but it seems like 20-25 in cities such Cherno or Elektro and about 30 in towns for eg. Vybor. Oh and especially FPS drop is in Zelenogorsk, this city is acutally unplayable when looking into city centre.

Windows 7 - 64bit

10-25 Frames in large cities and towns (Cherno, Severo, Novo, Electro, Berezino, and both Sabors)
30-45 Frames in Forests and Small towns

New Setup -

Intel i7-4790k 4.0Ghz Processor 11.2k CPUmark

Coolermaster T4 Heatsink

45-65 Frames in large cities and towns (Cherno, Severo, Novo, Electro, Berezino, and both Sabors)
70-123 Frames in Forests and Small towns

When I originally switch video cards, little to no noticeable frame difference, same as switching the ram to higher quality gaming ram. It appears the switch of processors greatly increased my framerate.

e_xil added a comment.Apr 9 2015, 2:50 PM

yes its definetaly the processor! its in many posts written, many people checkd

but, still, such graphics as in this game (especially geometry) should not need 3 billion petaflop cpus ;)

and the devs knows it and I HOPE the new renderer comes quick AND make this issue gone

Hey,

I have low end computer and I still can play this game around 20-30fps.
OS: Win Vista 32bit
CPU: Intel Dual Core E4500 2.2GHz
RAM: 4GB
GPU: Nvidia GTX 750 TI

In bigger cities I get 5-13 fps with any resulution and graphics. Changeing graphics doesn't have effect on fps.

Hope my weird setup can provide more info on the issue.

Well done. 0.57 - 1,3 GB update and less FPS than before.

e_xil added a comment.Jun 11 2015, 1:19 PM

thts so shittey, i hope the devs will make this issue gone.. SOON! its so dumb, this game ist really good, but this gfx issues are horrible.. AND NO STATEMENT HERE FROM ANYONE IN CHARGE :(

In 0.57 Stable this has increased dramatically for me & the 4 in my group. FPS has effectively doubled with this patch including looking into cities. Well done Devs, it is now playable all the time and doesn't reduce to unplayable levels in cities. Keep up the good work!

@all: it was stated repeatedly that one major issue causing this are the so called proxies. The design of those was the major driving force to implement the new renderer = to be able to get rid of those. So hang tight, it will be fixed.

source: rocket

@moeb1us Dean Hall himself said over a year ago in this thread above that it would be fixed in a matter of months. It has now been over a year. I think its a little bit past 'Hang Tight'!
http://feedback.dayzgame.com/view.php?id=247#c53931

@NiceGuyUK The games been in alpha for 2 years, of course we can expect this kind of treatment. I'm sick of this ArmA 2.5 engine running at 15-20 fps even in empty servers in cities. In the wild, fps = 60-100fps. When I look at the ground ANYWHERE, even in Cherno, I will get 140fps. The FPS should be stable. Even ArmA 2 doesn't do that kind of FPS change. The objects/texture loading will never really be fixed, because it's simply an engine problem and a result of the massive amount of enterable buildings.

Win 7 64 bit, GTX 780, Intel i7 2600k 4GHZ, 16GB 2400mhz RAM, Samsung 850 SSD..more than enough for this game

I propose this issue gets closed since no one seems to understand that the engine is being rebuilt.

I subscribed to this ticket to get real updates, not entries composed by people that are not capable of reading or don't have any.... You get the point... Just close the ticket.

hey folks, its truly sad that the men in charge of bohemia cant really help, so lets help ourselves out:

here is my solution (worked for me)

more fps (and sady less range of sight)

set in the dayzprofile file the three params to the values, that fits for your pcs (just try), in my case its:

sceneComplexity=100000;
shadowZDistance=600;
viewDistance=1200;
preferredObjectViewDistance=600;

(every one of this has something to do massivley with fps)

the dayzprofile file is found in:
C:\Users\*username*\Documents\DayZ

and is named:
*username*.DayZProfile

greets and keep watching

@exil: you definitely should add the information that doing so is only valid if you are a coast monkey or team deathmatch in towns mostly.

Since the settings of object detail (=SceneComplexity) and PreferredObjectViewDistance lead to you not seeing players as early as they see you if they haven't crippled their settings.

So, if you pvp in the north or in open areas, don't do this.

e_xil added a comment.Aug 7 2015, 12:22 PM

@moeb1us when im matching i know where i run, and im always alone - so first think before talk ;)

i know the locations where im heading around as much as good to know that all this is refered to depth of sight etc

so fyi: im a city monkey :P

@exil: I appreciate that you try to learn English as a second language, but I am not sure I got the message you wanted to send right.

And my remark was more aimed at others that read your recommendation and think about following it.

Have a nice weekend ;)

Setting the objects setting in-game affects the sceneComplexity so there's no point in manually changing it.

viewDistance and preferredObjectViewDistance have the best FPS increases.

Domi added a comment.Sep 13 2015, 12:54 AM

I have the same problem in 0.58.129143
in city 15-20 fps
in the forest 40 - 60 fps

i5 3.2ghz 4460
8gb Ram DDR3
GTX960 2gb drivers 355.82

A 7850 and an AMD 975 nowhere near a high-end PC, it's more like a mid range PC now but what is more important that it doesn't matters what PC you have, cities will drop Frames massively.

I play the game almost maxed out (only postprocess Quality is disabled) and still get around 20fps in towns, 40-70 fps in the Woods, with a 2500K (@4.2GHz) and an R9 290, 4GB VGA.

Problem is in Arma3 as well, cities decreases FPS, not to mention the random framedrops.

Yeah I think this is a universal issue in the game and not depending on the PC power. I have an FX-8350 and even tried it at OC to 4500mhz (liquid cooling) and ran with r9 290x and gtx 970 jetsream as I have both and both have similar performance of 17-33 in cities. Countryside I can get 100+ easy.

Best tip for fps I ever had is view distance, shadows off or low and scene complexity lowered to whatever your pc is handling. Or wait until a few more patches. :)

The problem is your FX and Athlon AMD processors, they're really low-mid range and their core performance isn't up to par with Intel.

The FPS drops are still taking place in 0.58.

Different PC, ultra low setting, mid range setting, high end settings.

In the cities FPS is like 30% of what it is in the dense woods, military bases etc.

i5-4690 @ 3,5GHz / 8GB DDR3 / SSD / nV GF GTX 550Ti (yep, VGA is old but neat).

The funny part is that when I drop details to minimum there are only a few FPS more in the cities.

The engine is not optimized to process so many textures, even when we see less objects than in the woods.

Using binoculars when seeing trees as well gets you big FPS drop (from 60 vsynced to 35 and you see only 2,5 of a tree and a sky).

I am planning to buy GTX 960

550ti is no where decent enough now.

Its a good card, but the gtx 900 series doubles the performance.

@TheAmazingAussie Well I have an Intel i5 4690k/gtx 970 also and that is getting nearly mirrored performance to the FX-8350/r9 290x on exactly the same settings so I don't think it is a case of brand not being able to handle the game.

Just AMD users have to be a little bit more dilligent with how many processes are running in the background.

Since the new update (0.58 Stable) I get more than 2 times more Frames per second using the -newui parameter.

In Elektro I get about 30 to 40. Everywhere else outside cities I locked my FPS at 75.

My PC is a cheap gaming PC:

  • Intel Core i5 4590
  • AMD R9 285
  • 8 GB RAM

nothing special.

I play with everything on Normal or High with AA and Alpha to Coverage enabled.

..is this game still alive? or dead yet?

man since two years! this thread is open... LOL thats a fast bugfix OO!!!!

Same thing, FPS related lags (as in ~15fps) in even small towns such as Solnichniy, haven't tried big cities yet, can't imagine the lag that might occur LOL (maybe 5-10 fps???). Computer Laptop Specs:
Razer Blade Pro 2014, Intel Core i7-4700HQ CPU @2.40GHz, dual slot 16GB DDRL3 RAM, Windows 8.1 64-bit, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M, running DayZ on SSD (512GB) and just FYI, I plug in my charger when I play games. I play DayZ on the latest stable build with all settings (e.g. rendering, quality and textures) at either very low or disabled with some at normal (those that don't hinder with performance too much). Overall, this game is still playable and enjoyable but gets a bit frustrating when entering towns or cities (maybe perhaps too many entities to render at once with such a long view distance?).
