The server day night cycles are pretty much locked out at night time which isn't too swell for those that wish to record or take screenshots. I feel that maybe giving server owners and/or admins the ability to tinker with some basic settings for the server would definitely help out quite a bit.

Simply join almost any server and it will be night.
Also not very enjoyable to barely be able to see, because it is always locked at night
Event Timeline
play time is limited and always during the same time of day for me, therefore if this isn't fixed I will never get to see daytime.
Well i think realtime day-/night-cycle is on the one hand the most realistic approach but on the other hand i would love to see day-/night-cycle like in Dayz Origins :)
Day-/nightcyle is one of my favorite things in SA, please keep it this way it adds so much intense moments to the game. Sunrises are beautiful! There is no better situation than watching sun rising after a rough night on top of a hill or a roof!
hmm maybe a more minimalistic approach could work here: if every 5,45 seconds in Dayz 1 extra seconds elapses then the in-game day will be 2 hours shorter than normal(not very much), but that would mean that in relation to realtime the day/night border is shifted by 2 hours per day, so every player could see every day/night-time by playing only 2 hours a day(same time of day) in 12 real days (in about 6 it's night and in about 6 it's day) i think that's a good trade-off.
The only reason this is an issue is because gamma is controlled locally and people can cheat it atm make gamma server side only so people cant run around with a clear screen and keep it the way it is.....just allow half the servers to be set opposite so there are always day servers for those that want to play in them.....however if you don't learn how to play at night you are missing a huge part of the game....I was scared myself as I usually prefer day but since i was forced into playing at night I have enjoyed it quite a bit and wont be night dodging any more...I think keeping the way it is for a while at least is good so people learn the system, however the gamma issue allows some to cheat very hard and basically see you while they are practically invisible to you so a fix for that is needed....
I support the idea of a 4 hour day/night cycle, however, if you want to keep the cycle as is, i suggest you do set some servers to the opposite time as the others.
If gamma and brightness is turned up way high, you can see stuff, but it all goes black and white, lol, and looks less than great. But it is then at least possible to see zombies and some items...
But yeah. Always night is not great!
if you leae gamma base you cant see your hand infront of yoru face without a flashlight but a smart bandit will crank it up and have his gun out....this is why gamma needs to be server side, yeah it looks like shit with it up but a smart bandit doesn't care he cares about killing you, also streamers crank it up to so that they can stream and not have it look like a black glob....if it was server side then the rules would be the same for everyone when they log in and noone has an unfair advantage.
I don't get to see much sun during the winter IRL due to work. It's amazing what a little sunshine will do for your disposition.
The reality of a server mimic real time breaks the fun mechanic. I would like to see the sun sometimes. Maybe speed up the cycle like GTA V? Give everyone a shot at each time of day if we only get to play at the same time most days.
I've seen the same thing, I don't think I've been on a single day light server, and the closes I got was dusk.
agree with all of those who said to shorten the day/night cycle. Also no way IRL you would be able to walk the length of this map in a 24 hr period so shortening the Day/night cycle would make it more real IMO.
Either this: I agree to having a twenty-something hours long ingame day instead of 24 hours!
Or this: Just make it visible to the players in the server list which time it is on the server.
I have 10+ hrs ingame and yet not seen 1 single sunbeam. I have daytime work and live in CET-Zone.
There is an absence of daytime at the moment, I'm in the EU myself and have tried EU servers and US servers at different times of day. All these servers I've visited have been only night time servers. I do believe this needs to be addressed ASAP.
I started playing overseas servers to get some daytime.
For europeans aussie servers have daytime.
The other players dont really like you when they try to kill you (500ms ping tends to lag you)
But atleast you have daytime/daylight to explore the newly rebuild chernarusplus :)
How about US servers? Normally I only get around 180 for those.
Last time I tried it there it was night as well... just like on the EU ones.
maybe two different day/night cycles
Option one: cycle related to realtime
Option two: 6 hours dytime 4 hours nighttime for example
Although this is not a bug, it needs to be discussed, 12 hour night cycles are too long. 4/5 hour cycles would seem like a good compensation for those that can only play later on in the day, or are in a different timezone.
The cycle might need to be shorter, but this is not a bug. You can find day servers no problem as well. Bad report, down voted.
Who said it was a bug? This site is for FEEDBACK, not just bug reports. That's why it's called FEEDBACK.dayzgame.com, and the reports we add are called "issues", not "bugs".
Night time should be divided up into portions such as this.
Each cycle should take four hours, as this how long the servers are up and divides into 24 six times. When the server starts it is night and as the loot goes down the sun comes up.
It is quite clear that you have to type of Gamers on this both demanding different things. You have the Gamer who want's a hardcore simulation and take the whole simulation thing a little to far if I'm honest.
Then you've the players who want to play DayZ for the fun Game play elements and may play after coming home from school or work an haven't got a great deal of time to commit hours apon hours on DayZ.
I think 4 hours of Day/Night is perfect because you get exactly 3 days out of 24 hours.
Personally I cant play games for 6 or more hours straight. I feel that a 2 or 3 hour day/night cycle on some servers would be cool. That way some of use can experience DAYZ's time of day cycle.
Some clarification on exactly why this is from the devs would be nice, I believe they've been mum about it. I don't mind even full half day darkness, personally, but the sun was only up from 5 am to 12 pm on NY/3-230 before server resets w/o warning, and when it came back up was night. Full server scattered.
If this is the default start-time on server reset (some time during the night, no clue since I don't think watches have been implemented yet?), perhaps that value can be changed so on reset it starts an hour before or at dawn?
Edit: I will say, first sunrise of SA after 6+ hrs of dark was pretty excellent.
Because of work I only play around 21:00 so by then it's night on the server. Would be great if the cycle can be made shorter so everyone has a chance of seeing Chernarus by day
Games also only been out for a few days, this isn't a bug necessarely so I don't think it's top priority. Find a 24 hour day server if you really want to, but it'll make you appreciate the sunlight that much more if you just tough it out ;)
Also, just saying, devs owe us nothing, even though we paid. It was opting into helping them, so they owe no one the right to see Chernarus in the daytime.
Also there is 24 day servers, as previously mentioned: go on them. Stop clogging up bugs forums w/ sniveling. Kthx. =)
p.s. I'm nicer off the internets.
So far it looks like a vast majority or players who love this game and want to play this game would prefer to see just a little bit of daylight. Games fail when player feedback and fun factor is foregone for stubborn developer concepts.
What is needed is the ability to change the GMT setting of our servers. It seems that the server hosters are having issues with this. Even though mine claims to have the server box set to GMT+11 when I get on it should be morning in game but it's night time, so something is obviously out of whack.
This will fix most of our issues, since people who are saying "I work all day" or the like can just find a server within their TZ with a GMT value that is daytime when they want to play. 24/7 Daylight servers and shorter day/night cycles are NOT the solution.
i wish that having 24/7 daytime was not something you can do when hosting a server as it ruins the atmosphere of dayz, night is the best time ever! stop bitching about oh the night is too dark, mommy there are monsters under my bed! i mean seriously grow up you have a torch for gods sake.
imo 24/7 day servers ruined dayz for me and Recoil333 sums it up perfectly :)
Setting all servers to be on their proper timezones with an actual second to second day/night = people just hopping to somewhere where its daylight OR night, whichever they prefer.
Having all servers on a somewhat accelerated day/night schedule = all servers being practically the same.
Having an actual 24 hour second to second representation of time is just stupid. That means that if, and when, the servers turn to private hives, players will either be forced to play at generally the same time of day, every time they play, or play on multiple servers, having multiple characters, in order to play different times of DayZ.
People who say an accelerated day/night cycles aren't the solution, aren't thinking very far ahead. This game is destined for disaster if the public hive is what gets pushed forward.
they should add the server's TIME onto the server selection screen list. This way everyone can just choose day time servers if they desire them badly.
I rent a server. I set the time to what suits me and my work. Why not do the same? Server owners can also add the server time in the name.
sure people can add the time in the name, but the developers are developing the game right now, it would be a better -more user friendly- experience if the time was visible at server selection by design. It is obviously an important factor to some people

I completely agree, having it built in would be much more efficient :)
Upvote for shorter day/night cycle. Keep it at 6/8 hours. If we can forget realism so players can starve to death in a few hours of jogging, then the time cycle doesn't need to be 24 hours. And make a worldwide time lock so it's the same hour in every server, to prevent server hopping to avoid nighttime.
Keep it authentic. Make the day/night ratio vary depending on seasons, but there's no point in a 24 hour cycle. With a 6/8 hour cycle, it's still long enough so you can still experience sunsets, night, sunrises and days without noticing the change.
Being able to check the server time in the browser would be the ideal solution. A shorter cycle wouldn't accomplish much; it would, most likely, cause players to hop between servers more often.
I think it is an semi-exploit thing. What I mean is that peeps push Gamma and brightness to the max and deactivate things like shadows and have effectively night vision. Right now, it is just the way it is until NV equipment is implemented. Looking at the DayZ Mod, night play is quite popular and the work-around works for now to test other things at night. The limitation is that any problems with shadows or other related and now deactivated features or bugs that show in low-normal Gamma/Brightness will be mainly overlooked. Just one example: The flashlight cone is way too narrow and too much tunnel view. This is unrealistic. Flashlights in rooms always light up the whole room with the cone being brighter. Also, no one really can see if the shadows are going alright there with settings for night play...
There should be servers with shorter and huger cycles, as well as day/night only tabbed srvers, would make it easier.
i never have a problem to find a daylight-server. just follow the players if you are not sure and do not want to test. more players = light xD
Friend figured it out, not a bug. Even at this moment you can get on daytime servers. In the server browser click the time key to arrange the times of each server in order then find a range between 07:00 - 14:00 (sunrise between 6:30 - 7:00. When we were all wigging on the night time bug, I think the servers were updated, but maybe some config must have been switched back to default 24:00 time so all the servers started out with this config once patched - must be that they all get patched around the same exact time? Anyway, slowly but surely you began to see the server listings show a range of time.
The fix for this is simple. When was the last time you went outside into the woods at night and were completely blind? All that needs to be done is to make it so its not so dark at night. As much as I "love" staring at a black screen while playing it completely robs the realism from the game. It is not as dark outside as this game makes it out to be. THAT is the real problem.
I believe this is not determinable at this time on whether it's a bug or not, time-zone withstanding, joined several different daytime only servers and experienced night in all of them on US servers while it was still early/daytime in real life as well. What I don't know is if it does turn out to be a bug - is it server side or client side.
Also - can you please do your best to fix this before US eastern early evening tomorrow or no later than Friday? Reason is, today a friend and I gifted 3 games to our mates, plus 2-3 more bought the game just to join in. Then this night time only thing was their 1st impression of this game. They are ALL new to the game, none of them played the mod before. Please hurry I don't want to loose their interest before they even get started!
As a side note - I don't mind the dark, just consider adding additional types of light sources, example a lantern to put on a table inside a house or to carry that has a different kind of unfocused, circular light that lights up an area whereas the flashlight remains as it is... focused. Also consider items that can be powered by alternative power source such as solar power or hand cranking action LOL keep up the good work.
since the recent maintenance, i've tried to track down "daytime only" / "daytime 24/7" servers, with moderate success - found 5-6 daytime servers within my filter settings, and guess what? night servers, the whole bunch of them, and only after the recent maintenance took place
it's pretty easy to find a day server. the night servers are the ones with hardly anybody in them. if it's got a bunch of players, 99% chance it's a day server.
Servers can be filtered by in-game time, it is up to the server owners when the servers are restarted.
