Turning your head makes the clouds move and change. And odd rotational effect at the edge of screen.
Assigned, WishlistPublic

Description

When you are in a a vehicle and move, the clouds move as well changing their shape. When you turn your head and move the clouds move and change shape as well.

This is really weird and ruins the amazing new volumetric clouds we have in Arma 3. {F21714}

I noticed that SimulWeather's TrueSky has this problem on its own without being in a game, so this may be a really tricky issue to solve.

I've added a video :

http://youtu.be/pKgcGrkIFcI

Use 1080p & FullScreen.

Dev Build : 1.03.110653
The problem is still there.
As you can see it's really distracting, but it's less noticable when zoomed in.

This is obviously a hard issue to tackle since it's consistent with previous releases. Though it would be a nice detail if altered (and improved).

Not to mention that the clouds move away from you as soon as you 'enter' one.

Probably much optimization applied to the clouds.

I can totally wrong but thinking of this issue it occured that there might be a difference between the simulated lens of TrueSky and RV4. Are they using different aproximations for projection functions leading to different screen mappings?

http://epaperpress.com/ptlens/lensCorrect.html (for real example)

http://photoropter.berlios.de/phtrdoc/techback_geom.html (lens geometries but specially the section "Different focal lengths for fixed viewing angle")

Good to see this ticket assigned! Hopefully this problem that the original Truesky software had can be solved.

This especially noticeable if using a custom POV.

Any info on this issue, is it pre-existing in trueskys code/unfixable?

[Im not saying this to get special attention :D ]

To be honest, i couldnt really notice it on the videos shown..

But it is a noticable issue, and is quite pronounced at triplehead resolutions...

I assume the wider fov increases this effect/issue? :)

I'm going to fraps a video :)

Hmm... Truesky has this by itself... Is BIS allowed to tinker with the software?

I believe this can actually be fixed, but the quality of the clouds would be far higher than what it is now. This may be an issue with the clouds not being as transparent as they and fluffy as some showcases I've seen, not sure how that can be accomplished, but when they are transparent, not only does it improve that glitch, but visually enhances the clouds by a long shot, and the lighting on the clouds also appear to be better.

Example of the softer transparent clouds, over the rougher ones.

Please get back A2 clouds, that was betetr solution, better locking, and less requirement from GPU/CPU.

Chomp added a comment.Jan 10 2015, 4:48 PM

The new cloud system is vastly superior to the A2 implementation and would be a reasonable loss to go back to.

I believe the current issue with the clouds occurs when you have a non-standard FOV.

Well I have a standard FOV and the problem is still here

just fly up high into the clouds with an airplane and turn your view... it's horrible and you get easily confused where up and down is if you dont look at aircraft instruments.

Glad it's not just me, I find the cloud warping effect hugely annoying. It's even visible in some of the Dyslexci videos such as the basic flight guide. Other games I play don't have this problem, and some have some really nice cloud visuals, so it could be done better in A3.

So there is another big issue to solve. Presens since i bought a game, a lot of time..... NO. 1 (in my opinion) - one of main part of game. Really annoying thinkg BTW. In mission editor i allways diabling clouds, but in game scenarios there is no such option. Please make it look natural, or disable this feature, and make clouds same as in prewious arma games.

Are you forgotting about this? You should write what you are working on, to not forget about most important fixes. Its basic content of the game, it cannot be bugged! Its just like driving car on square wheels...

I just uploaded the fixed wings single player mission video in Eyefinty and you can clearly see the issue happening whenever I turn the jet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szvPc_-aBc0

+1, one of most important bugs to fix. I'll try to write to true sky devs, its really annoying. I wish there could be option "clouds>very low" and adding arma 2 clouds with this option as a fix. It would be very cool to add option "beta clouds" as well as they wre look brilliant :

Dear dazhbog (developer)

Even after two years (of ticket creation) there is not yet a solution found?

Is this a general problem of TrueSky (www.simul.co/truesky/)?
I can not imagine, you can find the same issue in the latest TrueSky API.

A little reply would be nice.

Dear developers, thanks for ignoring us.

Today (after I created the last message) I got in contact with Roderick Kennedy (roderick@simul.co.uk), a developers of TrueSky.

I asked him, if the "wobbeling"/"moving clouds" are a general issue of TrueSky.

He sent me following answer a half an hour ago:

Thanks very much for your message.

In the latest version of trueSKY, this issue is fixed, due to our new rendering approach.

Best,
Roderick

I attached the respond as a screenshot.

Come on developers, please give us a sign.

So please apply the newest version of True sky, please, do it, we waited for so long..... As the fix is on your hands, it would be great to see one serious , major bug less.

How many time we need to wait for simple fix? Its base of basics, it part of the game world for fox sake.....

This problem is still happening... it is weird you spend so much to update the game but don't fix something that is a big glaring problem that affects every moment in the game. I emailed Roderick from SIMUL and he said the problem was fixed on their version, but it will require BIS to update it on the game's version. This was in mid 2015, and I reported the problem then, but in almost 2 years since then, it has never been fixed.

FYI, this doesn't only happen in vehicles, but also on foot. It is very easy to replicate, load the game, turn left or right, watch as the clouds ripple and warp in a weird way.
