Description

My server crashes randomly when someone logs out from the server
It started crashing after the 1.22 update.

This is still an ongoing issue. More information from the team would be helpful as we modded servers could potentially mitigate the issue until it's fixed.

We are seeing multiple of these "DIVIDE_BY_ZERO" crashes per day across all of our servers (DayOne). The pattern holds with what has been stated above - always after a player disconnects. It *seems* to hold true that the player has recently died, but lots of people log out after dying, so there may be nothing to that.

We have plenty of memory dumps we can share if additional data is needed. We appreciate the dedication to keeping the game stable.

Hello everyone.
As I have mentioned previously, this is a high priority issue for us and we are aware of the amounts of these crashes and we do not take them lightly. However fixing such issue is a complex process and we are doing the best we can - apologies for any inconveniences. Once the fix has been deployed internally and tested I will update this ticket.

@Geez with 1.23 heading to experimental soon, are we expecting any update on this DIVIDE BY ZERO crash when it is released if not before hand?

I have also been having this issue since 1.22.

  • The server will be close to restarting and then crash minutes before it's scheduled to.
  • The server will go down for its scheduled restart as it's supposed to. Then when attempting to start again, it will just show an endless list of players disconnecting and never come online.

I have tried manually restarting the dedicated server and omega manager as well. Nothing I do from my end seems to fix this issue. Usually, it will resolve itself after about 20 restart attempts or 30 minutes.

I have attached/uploaded my most recent RPT logs and mdmp logs when our server was experiencing the issue.

BOHEMIA this issue has been causing me issues since 1.22 dropped. I work hard to keep the pop on my server alive and these crash being present for so long is annoying.
How long until you patch this please. I see your putting resources into 1,23 before you have fixed 1,22. it makes no logical sense to add more things before you fix the old update.

I have the same opinion as Joby. People lose interest in playing. It feels like crashes happen every 30-60 minutes. This should be urgently fixed.

Agree, a lot of us dump endless hours into running communities/servers because we have a love for the game. Quality-of-life fixes are far more critical and important than getting new items/map additions.

can you tell us why the issue is happening?? maybe there is something we can do to fix this as i see some servers have the issue more than others? some information on whats causing it would be great or a statements from BOHEMIA DEVS that we can post to the players telling them what your doing to fix it please as communication is key here
and its just so frustrating that nothing is being done with some urgency. Please communicate back to me and the other server owners on when we can expect this situation to be resolved please.

this crash happens 2/3 times per day, the busier the server the worse it can be. can we please get some sort of update from you guys

itsmikedocherty im not saying they dont care, im saying as a server owners we need more communication on an issue that has been going on for over a month and it makes no sense to release 1,23 with 1,22 still causing issues. just a little communication is all we need and a time frame on a fix and maybe if there is something we can do to improve the issue in the mean time as im sure there is something dayz modders might be able to do.

My server crashes nearly every hour now.

With about a week to two weeks left until 1.23 release from what I understand, how are these bugs not addressed or even an update given to server owners?

Since 1.21, Dayz has been bleeding players, and since 1.22 in one of its worst states in my recent memory. And yet Bohemia wishes to release 1.23, which from tests puts dayz in a even WORSE state to the point of might as well be an unplayable dead game.

How are these fixes not top priority over releasing a barren and dead NWAF, that is just going to get revamped by owners anyways.

The fact that servers crash, player desync is at a alltime high, and just overall performance is amongst the worst its ever been is completely baffling to us.

@Geez will 1.23 fix these absolute major bugs, or are we just going to be adding new bugs to an already horrible 1.22 update? Communication here would be huge

Some info from developers here @Geez would come a long way.

These crashes has been dragging on for too long. If you can't reproduce it, ask your community for help. There is no shame in asking us to help you solve this issue.
Almost every single server is losing players constantly and we see a lot of people complaining about it day after day and us as owners / admins of servers are getting sick and tired of not being able to give any information to our playerbase regarding this issue.
When we do not get any information about the status of this CRITICAL error in your game, then it is very hard to keep people playing the game they love.

We have done a few things to kinda reduce the crashes a little, but they are still there, but not as bad as before.

Best way for you guys is to actually give out information. Tell us if there are any progress. You know that your modding community has outstanding developers that could actually help you in this matter if it is too hard for you guys.

@rupert I was told by another server owner that BodyBags stops this specific issue. Just a disclaimer it is my mod, I don't care if you use it or not, but I don't want to come off as advertising it lol.

I also do not have this INT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO crash on Rearmed. So it's more than likely related to dead survivors.

@Geez I would confirm with the team that they are aware of this, as maybe now that we have some idea as to what the cause is, we could expedite the fix.

@designful Does not completely stop the crashes, but it got down from maybe 30-40 crashes each day to about 5 on a slow day. But def higher after a wipe when servers are completely full.

Yeah, I would guess it has something to do with dead survivors. I see and hear people have tested it and we have gotten reports about server crashing after they killed a person.
But then again, there is absolutely no info coming from the developers, so we have no clue. They could at least ask their community to help them test it to see if we can reproduce the error.

I have also put the BodyBag Mod on to our Deathmatch Server and since there are no server crashes anymore

Bodybags itself does noy fully stop it, we still get it pretty rarely despite running body bags since forever. Nice plug though @designful ;P

But think its beyond just this one critical issue, the problem is how many critical issues now exist. Ghost bullets, Desync and lag in PVP, tree lag from shooting at trees, players bodies appearing elsewhere for other players, etc etc etc. List goes on so long since 1.21/1.22 with absolutely no communication or progress forward. Just new fanny packs and a barren and honestly underwhelming new NWAF.

We dont want new features, we dont need new features, the game has got to get fixed first.

The dev team does not consist of all programmers, so there's no need to bash them for releasing new features. However, I do agree that the net code is terrible and needs priority when it comes to fixes. It's been years now that the game has been plagued with lag and dsync and it seems the devs are only now beginning to realize it.

There is a dozen amount of ways to reproduce hand bug's with animation cancels. https://feedback.bistudio.com/T175849 All it takes is a day of testing to find majority of them.

Network ghosts are leading to false bans and false unbans. The admin community is beyond frustrated that they can no longer tell when a 900m shot is legitimate or not. And it's been a problem for months now as a byproduct of an attempt at fixing base lag.

The netcode and dsync attributes to almost all of the major issues in DayZ, and day by day we server owners and admins are the ones that have to put up with it as we're the ones that are actually involved with the player base.

BodyBags do not solve the problem. The problem persists.

Have the same issue on my server and we found out after testing many times whenever the server crashed the one who caused the crash were using the old man character

Is there any other way to fix this problem without body bags or any other mod that deletes bodies

will it be fixed in 1.23?

Any news about this please? Will it be fixed with 1.23 or we need to try and find a different solution for it? The server is crashing a few times per day, it's very frustrating for server owners and also for the players.

some insight, i believe this might be caused from fluid containers such as canteens and water bottles where the spill mechanic is in place of course when the container is empty the value = zero, as the spill script activates it divides by zero which is a common issue on scripts when dividing by zero, i had it happen on a new 1.23 death match server i made and i removed canteens and the issue hasn't repeated to my knowledge.

This is a theory based on my own experience and not to be seen as fact.

The crashes happen randomly when someone disconnects after he died, he needs to disconnect in max 30 minutes after he died. I think it's something related to the dead bodies, if the body despawned or not when he disconnects.
Every time our server crashed, the person that disconnected died recently.

We added body bags mod and we've already seen an improvement related to the crashes. So far the server crashed only one time, but this is because the person that died instantly disconnected, and the body bag is configured to appear 1 minute after a player died.

  • take the weapon in your hands and go prone

Whats the issue?
Since 1.22 your weapon no longer properly detaches from your hands when you die in the prone state. It stays "stuck" in your hands. You cannot loot that weapon and cutting up the body makes the weapon go poof. Weapons with overlayed scopes stuck in your hands are the issue if you respawn at least once and then leave the server before your original body despawns or is cut up. The best solution in my opinion to fix this is to make the weapons detach correctly whenever a player dies while being prone. It will also make that weapon lootable for other players, which should obviously be fixed along.

This was tested for couple days in a row on all KarmaKrew Servers and the crash never occured. Confirmed fixed. Credits to @Maroonchy for the Code.

I am talking about the official DayZ patch. The crash still occurs after that. I still recommend using the pbo I posted here, which prevents the crashes fully.

I can confirm, removed your .pbo with the update and had 3 crashes since.
It improved a lot but in some cases its still happening.

I can confirm, that even with KarmaKrews serversided fix, does this issue still arise.

Further fixes are going to be deployed for the 1.24 update
