oomwar added a comment to T82033: M6 slam does not register MBT-52 Kuma as a target.

as of right now, the KUMA can't even function as a hard cover since the explosive energy passes directly through the tank. I'm fine with the M6 not being able to disable the MBT, but at least allow the energy to be absorbed by the tank so it can at function as hard cover. it's also disappointing to note that from a simulation point of view, the M6 should at least do "some" damage to the tank even if it's not enough to disable it with multiple M6 mines. afaik, the M6 SLAM is in fact an anti armor mine designed for tracked vehicles with its shaped explosive charge.

oomwar added a comment to T81806: ASP-1 KIR accuracy.

as a purpose built "sniper" the accuracy needs to improve dramatically. granted it is a sub sonic gun, but that doesn't mean it should be inaccurate. with the proper scope (one used on the VSS vintorez) this gun should be VERY accurate.

@Helperman

coincidentally, the VSS Vintorez scope would also work well for the vermin since the 45 caliber bullet used in that gun is naturally subsonic :D

but i have to disagree with a choice between supersonic and subsonic rounds for that gun. there is already a supersonic .50 cal gun in the game. this gun is special because it is in fact subsonic.

the issue here is the bullet drop and the proper scope that compensate for that bullet drop. not the bullet itself. as a supersonic 50 cal, it would have extremely poor accuracy performance due to the relative short barrel length

to oggoeg,

the PSO scope is designed to work with the AK107 which still fires a supersonic round. the VSS Ventorez scope

is designed for subsonic rounds. the chevrons on the scope used by the thread cutter has dramatically larger bullet drop compensation due to sub-sonic flight characteristics. same flight characteristics would apply to the ASP-1 since it also fires a sub-sonic round. so the scope would be a natural fit for that gun as well.

dev branch as of 4/4/2015

it would appear this sniper is a subsonic variant based on the VSS Vintorez. as such, it would have the same bullet drop characteristic as the thread cutter. since mid to long range scopes are based on supersonic bullet flight, the large scopes are quite useless for this gun. they simply need to import the scope used in ARMA 2 for the VSS and attach it to this gun for proper aiming/zeroing.

oomwar added a comment to T81412: ASP-1 Muzzle Flash.

as a sub sonic sniper and with such a large integrated suppressor, there should be very little flash from this gun.

i really felt this problem should be given some attention after a decade of persistence. it's a problem since operation flashpoint and still have not been fixed yet :(

i realize it's a low priority item on the to do list, but i think a decade is a long enough time to stay on that list.

sometimes i need to use speakers so i can hear other people talking to me of knocking on the door but sometimes i can use headphones for more immersion. not having the ability to do this on the fly really hampers my ability to enjoy the game fully.

please push this up the priority list

oomwar added a comment to T69167: silenced sniper rifle.

there is a HUGE difference between "silenced" sniper rifle and "suppressed" sniper rifle. just because you put a can on a sniper it doesn't make it silent. a TRUE "silenced" sniper rifle such as the VSS vintorez and the new ASP-1 fires SUB-sonic rounds so there would not be a sonic boom to giveaway your position. a "suppressed" sniper such as those indicated by the OP only hides the muzzle flash of the gun, it can NOT remove the sonic boom from the bullet as long as it is traveling as supersonic speed.
