There is not much to animate, for most weapons the only difference between the fire modes is how far your thumb pushes the safety catch when unlocking the weapon, what a soldier actually does when starting to aim. Switching fire modes in game is actually telling your character how far he has to push it before shooting, and since you can't see the safety catch when shooting, its more a mental than a visual thing.
I mean the smoke that you can use in ground vehicles by pressing the counter measures button. (just like flares in an air vehicle), not smoke as special kind of ammo.
I was not sure about ArmA 2, but I guess that's what it should be like in ArmA 3 as well.
Go to commander's seat, that is where you can pop the smoke from.
I was very disappointed when I entered the Strider and found out that one of it's real life key features is missing.
Right now it is just another armoured car, adding the telescopic sensor head enables it to do what it was actually designed for: providing overwatch security and supporting other troops.
Edit: the video from above, with english subtitles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otZw9_1nvAs
btw, in the armed versions of the strider the commander's field of view is limited by the weapon to his right. elevating the sensor would solve that issue.
+1 for realism
