You always can use Steam overlay (Shift+Tab) and see news.
Also you can use Steam browser for opening dayzdb.com/map just from game.

For mouse smoothing we have a slider in options, just above acceleration button.

I don't affected by that bug.
Before i see Rocket's explanation i thinking it's just a text bug - same string for On and Off.
So i click once, go ingame and check - everything is fine (no acceleration).
