add in realistic airport markings and lighting
Reviewed, LowPublic

Description

I feel that Statis Air Base is lacking the furniture and detail that is so crucial to the success of Arma3.

As some people have already reported (#4024), the runway designation is inaccurate, being 26-02 rather than 20-02. While this is true, it is not the main point of this ticket.

The following are details I feel could be added to the airbase, sticking to current international air regulations, which are unlikely to change significantly in the future; but are very pedantic. There is a lot of detail here, but I feel inaccuracies in this area would do more harm than good. I have attached some photos to better show what I'm trying to have implemented.

  1. Move the PAPI lights down the runway, so they're beyond the aiming markers; they currently land a plane too early on the runway (both approaches)
  2. Runway edge lights should be white rather than yellow
  3. taxiways should have a blue lit outline and the centreline should be lit with surface-flush green lights
  4. taxiway centre lines should have alternating green and yellow lights as they enter the runway (start and end on green)
  5. taxiways should extend into the mid-line of the runway
  6. signposts around the runway/ taxiway to allow for realistic taxiing (i.e. taxi to runway 35 bravo, alpha)
  7. more accurate runway approach lights to maximise the realism of needing them with the weather settings (pic1)
  8. ability to turn runway/ taxi lights on/off from ATC tower in case of attacks/ security/ sabotage {F18352} {F18353} {F18354} {F18355} {F18356} {F18357} {F18358} {F18359}

All of my upvote! I would hate to see ArmA, who tries to be as close to a sim as it possibly can, suffer innacuracies as simple as this.

this would greatly add to the atmosphere of the game, esp. at night

/upvote for the love to the details !!!

The runway headings have been corrected in the patch, they now read 02-20. Loving the Dev's attention to detail and proving the tracker's role

As somebody who plays FSX, this would be good to have.

Could probably find a lot of info at FlightGear on runway and airport graphics.

Just remember to give back to the Open Source community!

Good Idea, but please edit category to "Feature Request" in category, severity, or both.

-Thanks

Zychon, that had been my initial response, but i think i must have miss clicked. there's no way to edit the ticket from my end now

Peck,

If it is an issue created by you, you should see an "Edit" button right under the Attached Files block (next to "Monitor"). From there, the category and severity should be drop downs.

It works for me anyhow, but you are not the only person here that says they can't edit their own stuff. Maybe there's an issue with the issue tracker.

Someone call Xzibit! Yo dawg, I heard you had an issue with your issue ...okay I'll stop now. :D

At the very least the runway designation markings MUST be changed.

Sarlac, runway designations have been changed. I think it happened in the first patch ?0.52

I hope Altis' airport has these features!

They won't listen to you. After how "hard" they worked on map design and everything else, they're only patching piss easy stuff.

WOW! This issue has gotten a lot of votes, and well deserved feature request too as I think it's quite trivial to spend a little time with the currently inadequate airport lighting. I can just barely see the airport runway lighting from the air during the night, and this is not at all realistic as runways can be seen from many miles away!

But in the end, it really is just that for now, a feature request.

Also, I do not think the runway access roads are correctly arranged for loading and unloading fixed wing aircraft. Can anybody imagine a C-130 or C-17 Globemaster trying to taxi to the runways? The runway access roads width are also likely much too small.
