Picking up enemy weapon
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Hello, can you make it so when you pick up an enemy weapon that you automaticly pick up the ammo for that weapon also? It is pretty frustrating spending to first pick up the weapon and then exit the inventory and rearm on the dead soldier. I died so many times due to this bug.

I found the same exact thing; magazines do not show up in gear list of dead enemy as well.

yea i have the same problem, when you take his gun its always empty and there are no magazines in his inventory

LOOL that happened to us yesterday, didnt it, Bro :)

To find the ammo you need to click his vest, the middle button.

yep.
It's not really a bug, its a feature so you don't run up to a dead guy in the middle of a battle, pick up his rifle and instantly gain all his ammunition, it doesn't work like that in real life.

I think it should stay how it is, with you either picking up the rifle and using the remaining ammunition in the magazine, and then picking up more ammo from the vest, or picking up the weapon + ammo after the fight.

I was so confused as to why my inventory wasn't reflecting what I was known to be carrying. Then I noticed the bars under my shirt and vest were going up as I was grabbing stuff.
It didn't dawn on my at first but click on those items shows what they are carrying. Would probably be more straight forward for a non-arma player.

I'm kinda on the fence as to whether I should vote this up or down. I'm definitely used to this from Arma 2. However is a change to this in A3 moving in the right direction? Weapon usability is way up from A2, to the point where I'd like to see some CQC in this game. Would an acceptable offset to that be the way this weapon pick up works?

When you take a weapon you have to take the pouch vest too.
Right click to take or drop items.

Picking up all the available ammo instantly when you pick up the gun... is pretty unrealistic. It should be that when you pick up the weapon, the only ammo you bring with it, are the rounds already loaded into the weapon. It would provide harsh situations if you run out of ammo, but it would be realistic, which I think ARMA should always strive for when it can and in a case like this it definately can.

Good point guys but like Morthon said, it would be nice at least it is loaded with the last used round. At least that way you can fend off enemies if they are getting close to you.

The weapon actualy tends to have the ammount of ammo in it when the enemy dies, quite often they do have an empty magazine in.

This is a feature that should remain. It doesn't harm gameplay (makes it a little harder, maybe) and improves realism and immersion.

The old Arma/A2 inventory system was counter-intuitive and could be a pain in the arse sometimes.

This request seem to resemble: #0001427

What is annoying is that I need to pick up the weapon in order to simply snag an attachment from it.

So basically, in order to take an optic from a weapon and put it on the one I have, I need to:

  1. Drop my weapon
  2. Drop all my ammo
  3. Pick up the other weapon
  4. Remove the optic
  5. Pick up my old weapon
  6. Pick up 1 magazine
  7. Wait for it to reload
  8. Pick up my other magazines.

Why.

EDIT: I think a better inventory system would simply be a copy of the current inventory screen, except two windows. 1 dedicated to the corpse/other soldier (trading?) loadout and the other dedicated to your own.

Same happening for me!

Only voted up because of the suggestion by integ3r (Trading-Loadout-screen-layout).

Magazines DO show up on dead bodies, they are usually located in the vest or combat armor. Click the combat armor or vest and voila! Ammo.

An even easier method is just to scroll the mouse wheel near the corpse and choose "rearm at ..." after you have taken his gun.

Yeah that's a long list to get an attachment. Gone through it a few times myself.

I think it would be easier to be able to look into a weapon like you would a vest/backpack in the current inventory, grab what you need. That would seem less immersion breaking than a A2/A3 hybrid inventory window.

Being used to the old inventory made the new one a jump to get used to. I like it though. If changes are going to be made to it, it should keep moving forward and not back.

I agree partially only.

Picking up a weapon should only include the current loaded magazin with the actual remaining rounds in it.

All remaining ammo should be picked up manually.
