Inventory UI Suggestion
Feedback, NormalPublic

Description

Hello Geez and co.
I'd like to make a QoL suggestion for the inventory UI as I find that inventory management in DayZ can be a bit frustrating due to the amount of scrolling that is required at times, I feel like this idea would be a great way to make the inventory experience more enjoyable overall.

I made a quick before and after video to show what it would look like.

While I think it has many benefits, it does have one downside that I can think of, here's what I perceive to be the pros/cons.

Pros:
#1. Always able to check the durability/wetness status of your equipment, even when scrolled to the bottom of the inventory.
#2. More convenient item repairs.

  • Let's say your sewing kit is in your backpack, you scroll all the way down to equip it, but now instead of needing to scroll all the way up again to combine your clothing, you can simply grab the item icon from the equipment bar as it's always visible and accessible.
  • Same situation applies for repairing firearms on your shoulder slot with a weapon cleaning kit.

#3. More convenient to combine certain items.
For example, right now it's essentially impossible to attach grenades to your vest if you're scrolled down in the inventory, picking them up off of the ground with F, or dragging them onto your character UI doesn't put them into the grenade slot (double clicking in the vicinity can work.. but only sometimes?) this means you must scroll up and have either the vest itself or the equipment bar visible in order to do so. With the equipment bar always visible, this issue would be resolved as well.
And for the situations where drag & drop on the inventory icon doesn't work (such as trying to drag a knife onto belt w/ sheath) then you'd also have the option of dragging the belt into your hands, attaching the knife that way and then re-equipping the belt.
You'd also have an easier time drag & dropping weapon attachments onto firearms in the shoulder slots, such as optics, suppressors, ghillie wraps. Or dragging NVGs/flashlights onto head straps/helmets, etc.
#4. Easier to drop/pickup gear.
It'd allow you to always have access to the CTRL+Click drop function for all of your equipped clothing items and weapons regardless of inventory position. Could make looting equipped gear from dead players more convenient, among other things.
#5. It just feels right. I'd say the equipment bar feels like a "main overview" of your character, showcasing all your weapons/clothing and providing information about them, considering that my character is wearing that clothing, doesn't it just make sense that I'd have access to it at all times?

Cons:
#1. It takes up more space on the screen, reducing the amount of inventory items you can see at once.
I'm aware that this con sounds a bit counter-intuitive to the change as it would actually increase scrolling a little bit when browsing contents of your inventory, but overall I think this change would still greatly reduce the amount of scrolling required in general and improve the inventory experience.
For me, just being able to see item durability/wetness & easily repair equipped gear at all times (regardless of inventory position) would be absolutely huge.

Maybe I missed some pros/cons, but there's my thoughts as of now. Thanks for considering.

Seems a good idea... i'd add to include a SHIFT-click to complement the CTRL-click... where ctrl-click drops items with one click, shift-click could pick them up with one click. The double clicking is so screwed up and often fails to the point players end up resorting to click, drag and drop instead
