Description

I like the new chainmail, but I don't like the fact that it's an actual armor against bullets/arrows since that is very, very unrealistic. Chainmail ( and the whole knight armor ) usually struggles with .22 let alone higher calibers which penetrate it like it's nothing. 9mm destroys it up to 50 - 100m.

Protection against melee and knives makes sense ( unless it's a bayonet / spear stab ). Chest plate is a very thin sheet of metal and chainmail is made of tiny rings of metal and it's not made out of "Mithril", a legendary ore from "Lord Of The Rings".. There's no way that armor should be able to tank a Mosin round from 600m let alone 50m..

there are many videos on YT which demonstrate how ineffective these armors are against firearms and stabs. Even projectiles like crossbow bolts/arrows go through it like it's nothing...

One of videos for the reference...

would love to see a change in this since dayz has always been going for a more realistic approach in its game design logic...

I agree with you, WeirdXone. Against melee should be very protective in general, but against bullets it should struggle even with .22, chain mail and plate on top. These new medieval armor in game are supposed to be replicas from museums or similar, so even more.

Fully agree. Being shot while wearing chainmail would probably be even worse than when wearing normal clothing because of the extra shrapnel.
Chainmail should have no ballistic protection. Also I think body parts with chainmail should be fully protected from cuts from infected.

It's out of logic. Ingame bolt is somewhere on 5.56x45 lvl (or at least 7.62x39), how chainmail can protect from bolts (which it does irl, not everytime, but still), but struggle with .22LR (which sometimes can't even penetrate human skull)?
