Why is does everyone slam doors in the apocalypse?
It's like everyone is angry at the broken world they slam every door they come across to let everyone know they are mad.
Can we get a multiplier to quietly close doors, like Ctrl and F?

I really dig this idea. I think it would be a great addition to the game, and would appear to be something that could be applied to a handful of door types at first (for example, just residential house doors) and then improved/expanded over several patches.
It would seem such a feature, in its most basic and simple form, only needs a new keybind/input (that would work with both PC and consoles) for the 'close/open door gently' action, and have that action reduce the volume of the door audio sample we already have by around 70-80%.
I don't see any real need to bother with the door animations themselves at all. What really matters is the sound, not the visuals.
The only types of doors/gates that I think should be handled differently than 'regular sized' doors with this action are any big of the metal doors, gates, big sliding doors and prison cell doors. Those should probably only around half as quiet as regular sized doors. So if regular doors reduce the sound by 80%, these bigger doors/gates should only be around 40% quieter than normal.
When it comes to how this action is triggered, if at all possible I would really prefer it to be via a key/button combo (such as crtl+F), rather than making it an action option that you select by scrolling when you see the open/close door option.
Seems like a feature worth considering.
Hunt Showdown uses a pretty simple system for this, where doors are quieter if they are interacted with while crouching.
Perhaps this would be the preferred implementation as it's console friendly requiring no addition buttons.
While not necessary I do think it would feel really weird to see the door flying open at normal speed while sounding much quieter. In Hunt Showdown the animation is also slowed down it's a great detail imo, if they were to add this feature into DayZ I'd definitely like to see that included if possible.
Great idea, and I've been wondering the same for a long, long time. But I guess there's more important stuff to focus on at the moment...
I always thought it would be cool if you could "HOLD F" on door to open and close them slower, Just reduce the animation speed to 1/3, with reducing the "SLAM" sound and maybe record a new squeaky sound of it.. or not even that .. like the last third of open/close animation just play the existing "squeak" sound... I mean another option is like.. if you "HOLD F" for even longer, you're opening the door as much as you're holding the F key. That would be cool with those front yard gates and big industrial doors, so you don't open Massive door at the speed of light, instead, you'd naturally open just enough to squeeze through...
I think one of the issues is that doors in DayZ work differently compared to other games. They are very "rigid" and they open in one direction ( as they should ). However I think It's more like rotating the wall of a house.. Majority of games make doors that basically revolve, and can be opened outwards and inwards (which I hate ). Because they are like, just another free asset with its own physics that you can kick around, that just happens to be attached/locked to something on one axis..
So the question here is like, what happens with that "rotating wall" in dayz if you're trying to pass through it mid open/close animation, and how annoying would it feel... Also, how weird would it look if you're not in the vicinity of the door while they're opening/closing in such slow state... Logically you'd have to be close to them to execute the complete action because of the visual aesthetics of the animation.. Right now the animation is very linear. That means it's the same speed from first keyframe to last in the open/close animation. I wonder if their engine has keyframe smoothing for animations, like bezier curves, because that would look way better when you're using the "slow open/close" door function. Because it would slow the animation down when going toward the last keyframe. It would suggest that you've pulled the door, and let "inertia" (optical illusion) do the rest of the opening, instead of being stuck to door... Same with closing it...
I mean ... I guess it's better to try and confirm it's not good, instead of wondering "what could be".... Devs.. pls ? 😄
@WeirdXone
Never been pinned by an opening door eh...
Happens all the time to me, I always forget which way doors open and end up between em and the wall
