Hunting scope weapon sway completely out of control
Closed, DuplicatePublic

Description

When looking down the sights of a rifle with the hunting scope attached, the weapon sway is absolutely ridiculous, trying to scope out a town from afar is a headache inducing experience.

I understand you should need to hold breath when taking a shot, but you shouldn't need to use it when simply scoping out an area.. the character acts like they have a broken arm, kuru twitches and just got done running a marathon, neither of which are the case in this video.

Patch 1.17 vanilla settings - character fully healthy without injury and there is zero mouse input, the game is doing everything.

Just try to do the same with your cellphone camera zoomed out and then tell me what happens.

Pro tip, if you do not want the swing, use binoculars or range finders to scope the area. Or you even can use the scope in your hand.

Yes I'm aware that the binoculars give a stable view, but that is irrelevant.. the scope still has this issue.

Regardless of what alternatives you want to suggest the scope view still remains extremely overexaggerated, do you not see how aggressively it drags your aim from across the screen at times? As if someone is yanking on the barrel of the gun or something lol..

Like I said I agree it should have some sway and you should need to hold breath to line up a shot, but the current sway is just insane, very annoying and unfun and doesn't add anything of value. Not sure why you would try to defend this and stop them from improving the game?

When you use the realism argument it really doesn't help.. the game mechanic is shit it doesn't matter what happens when I try to record on my phone.

In my opinion they should make it so the aim still moves quite a lot (maybe even faster) but is more centred around the middle of the screen and remove that 'yanking' feeling where it suddenly pulls to the side.
This way it is less frustrating, less headache inducing and still gives binoculars an advantage because they are completely stable without holding breath.

I think this is just an improvement to the feel of the game while keeping it the same in regards to balance, I don't see how this could be a negative change.

Well, that's true, sometimes is not a sway but a sudden shake to the side, I think what the devs try to implement is an advantage among the possible players possitions, standing, crouch or laying on the ground. The sway of the scope is reduced if your body is closer to the ground.

That is true, there is differing amounts of sway depending on stance and I agree that there should be, it makes a lot of sense. Just to clarify I was in crouch position in the video, however I did go back and test the sway while standing, crouch and prone just to see the difference.

After testing it my thoughts are this -
Standing sway - absolutely hilarious I couldn't help but laugh, the current crouch sway should be changed to the standing one instead
Crouch sway - way better than standing but still terrible, as I said above, this is more suitable for the standing position I think
Prone sway - still has a tiny bit of the 'yanking' motion but it's overall very stable and fine, perhaps the yanking motion could be completely removed when prone and then make the current prone sway the new crouch sway instead.

@Jaakael videos are from 1.17 vanilla server, or it's CommunityOfflineMode ? Are you modify fog some way ?

It's a community server but vanilla settings/0 mods, yes.
You can extend your view distance by changing the 'overall quality' setting to Extreme (this will change all your settings, so write them down first) and then you can change your other settings back to what they were before.

@Jaakael default server visibility is 1375m, your first video have distance at police station 1500m, your server have modified setting by increased view distance. At this distance you will see police station in "full fog" at vanilla, that mean it's absolute unusable and bad example. You can use binoculars, but they need small fix :) https://feedback.bistudio.com/T164630
And your hunting scope zoom is at max 12x zoom and you are standing.

Modified server settings, 12x zoom and standing postition are extreme conditions which the ordinary player on vanilla servers does not get into. (and moreover, you watching area where is usually fog)

It's a same like you try to see star with telescope 500x, but you can't find that star because you have shaky hands, not possible to have stable view at this distance with that zoom level from hand.

But if you trying to tell, that it would be cool have little more smooth noise in X axis, it can be. :)

(Red is scope movement in X and green in Y axis.)

@raxto

Hey, I tested on official server and you are correct that the town is in fog, I was not aware that the community server had increased view distance.
And I definitely am crouched in the first video, not standing - I tested that again as well and the sway when standing was much more extreme than what is shown in video #1.

However, with that said I still believe the scope view is horrible, even in a more appropriate condition such as 300-500m, 4x zoom and crouching.
In these conditions the sway itself is fine but the random pulling motion of the scope still remains extremely annoying, I wish that was removed completely and we just have a normal sway only.

After testing on the official server I also want to complain about the fog, but I'll leave that for another time lol.
