Zeus Modules and Parameters Feature Request.

Description

I've compiled a list of a substantial amount of modules/parameters/improvements that could enhance the vanilla zeus experience, and fundamentally improve arma 3 players' experience within the zeus gamemode, categorized on their usage, together with the help of other arma 3 players and zeuses, so apologies for the inconsistencies with explanations or solutions:

Enhancements

  • Not a module, but make zeus search-bar only search on an enter key press rather than actively search, as it is right now it’s laggy to search for items and can cause typing mistakes.
  • Custom Compositions(Made in EDEN and usable in Zeus, only allow objects and units to spawn, have units spawn with their saved loadouts). + Add a function to “respawn on original position”.
  • All in-game music tracks
  • Custom Messages from HQ
  • Change view distance module/View Distance Parameter (High priority)
  • Delete all map markers(Sometimes when a zeus disconnects the other zeus can’t delete their markers, this would clean up the map)
  • Remove clutter(Poor performance in public servers are usually due to a lot of dead buildings, AI/players, and vehicles, dropped equipment, dead placeables. A module that removed all dead objects would be very useful).
  • Disable Simulation in Zeus(Unusable on Players)
  • Attachto module(not particularly important, can be abused)
  • USS Freedom/USS Liberty Spawner
  • Unflip module, example below for a script:

AI

  • AI ROE changeability(Hold fire, open fire, hold formation, etc).
  • AI Garrison buildings module(would help out with making urban-based missions and have more building interaction)
  • AI Loadout Replacement, through the copying and pasting of loadouts(if copying loadouts in Custom Comps isn’t possible)
  • Global AI Settings(Force every AI to stand, crouch, prone… global skill modifiers… etc)
  • AI Ambient Animation module(when they get shot at they will stop their animation?).
  • Make AI careless
  • Set Captive/Escort Captive(to simulate rescue missions, etc. same vein as in apex protocol/zeus enhanced version of module).
  • Faction Diplomacy(ability to change relations between sides, would make more narrative-driven missions possible).

Environment

  • Advanced Weather Module(change wind, rain, clouds, lightning, etc. If possible make smooth transitions between changes instead of instant change.)
  • Set Date module(for full-moon/specific time missions rather than skipping until the desired time).
  • More Advanced Effects (Fire, Smoke etc…)

Players

  • Revive player module(Set the revive state of a player.)
  • Mute/Unmute global
  • Change side of players and allow to put down all side spawns(Useful for when doing operations where you want to give players the option to go “incognito” either with enemy equipment, vehicles, etc that way they don’t target them automatically, Together with “Gone Rogue”-type missions.)

Equipment:

  • Disable mortars module(Disallow taking mortar backpacks from the Arsenal)
  • Vehicle Styler + Pylon Changer(Possibly the one from Global Mobilization just ported over to vanilla).
  • Flashlight/NVG adder/remover
  • Optic system(Thermals, NVGs) adder/remover
  • Airdrop module (Placing the module down would cause a Xian/Blackfish to fly over and drop a crate. Could be used for “immersion” so a crate doesn’t just pop up next to people.)
  • Full/Limited(faction-specific) Arsenal Spawner(use it on a crate/vehicle/unit to make it have an arsenal), also an Arsenal Remover.

Event Timeline

We really need this update to Zeus. Especially for vanilla Arma with no scripting involved the base Zeus interface doesn't have many "must-have" modules. Adding these modules would be amazing for those who use vanilla Zeus or play on the Official Servers.

I would definitely like to see more love for the Zeus interface. Zeus is fun, but desperately needs more modules like the Achilles mod. Maybe just allow the Achilles key on just one of the official servers?

If BI is too busy, I'd be more than happy to take on the task of adding these new Zeus modules to the game. 😉

One of the most important things Achilles adds for me is the ability to apply (certain) modules to selected entities with [ENTER]. It's rare that I want to change the simulation of one prop at a time or every prop on the map -- but it's very frequent that I want to change the simulation of a certain set of props.

Other modules I use frequently:

  • Suppression (ACE/Achilles)
  • Building Furniture Population (ZEI)
  • Toggle Flashlights and NVGs on AI (ACE)
  • Teleportation/Teleportation Poles (ACE/Achilles)
  • Better Intel Objects (Achilles)
  • Toggle Lamps (Achilles)

+1 These enhancements would open up a whole new dimension of Zeusing possibilities. Stay cool, Lanker!

I'm all for hosting Vanilla based Ops and even hosting more often on Bohemia's Zeus servers. To see an update like this be implemented to Arma 3 would be extremely beneficially for the game's community.

Would 100% support this, in order to keep the game community alive and active this is definitely needed.

It`s a shame to see Bohemia put such a good idea to waste. There is so much more that could be done with this game mode but they decide to ruin scripting and work on a 20$ mod. Not everyone has the time to join a unit or rent their own server to play with Zeus enhancing mods and most people who looked at the trailer for Arma 3 weren't expecting KOTH to be the dominant game mode. This list would definitely help Arma 3 Zeus, but there is still so much that Bohemia could do like, find out ways to combat trollers because they run rampant through the Zeus servers, add a larger player cap to Zues servers if you wanna play with just one faction, the ability to put down a full arsenal I know its a repeat but god damn is it desperately needed, etc.

I think it'd be smarter to replace the "Delete all markers" module with an "add x to interface" module since that'd be a lot more universal.

Also as Whale already mentioned a module to turn on/off the power (as in streetlamps and stuff) in a given radius aswell as possibly adding a module making use the the Bis_fnc_nuke stuff that I think I remember Lou working on (if that gets added to the game).

This isnt a priority module but I think some way to create randomized fields of x stuff in a given radius would be interesting, so stuff being things like mines (AP/AT) and trees to be able to make smaller forrest areas quickly (although it'd propably be good if the module accounted for the size of the radius and decreased the amount of stuff that is spawned per square meter the bigger the radius is to save on performance.

Another suggestion I have is a sort of 'ambient fly-by' module which lets you define a vehicle, height and direction and which then spawns the selected plane (with careless ROE) to fly by the module position in the given direction at the given height and then despawns after a certain time/length flown.

Also a module to quickly create an ambient combat zone using the already existing sound module (war background sounds) and tracer fire modules, as in spawning a few of those modules in a given radius, could be a nice module to speed up creating ambient stuff around the AO.

Btw thank you Lanker for going trough the effort of compiling this list and making this post, lets hope we see some improvements in regards to vanilla Zeus thanks to this!

Iirc the reason that Achilles isnt allowed on the official servers is because

  1. Achilles has a module that lets you execute code similar to the Debug Console which the BI peeps dont want
  2. The BI peeps want the official servers to be a good starting point for new players and resemble the Vanilla game

From what I've heard from the official Discord that is exactly why

Additionally --

Almost always I have AI initially set to "SAFE", but after first contact (when gunshots ring out across the AO) the AI seldom update to "AWARE" by themselves, so I have to do it. If I don't, patrols stroll around with their guns lowered through areas with nearby audible contact. So either:

a. Module that changes behavior (SAFE/AWARE/COMBAT) of AI in radius, or
b. The ability to change multiple groups' stances, formations, behavior, etc all at once -- even if transferred to HC

We need all of this in Zeus, right now what we have feels very surface level. Its usable and you can do a lot with it but we need more stuff like this to make it more interesting and fun for Zeus players as a whole.

One more suggestion --

More camera controls! Oftentimes in Zeus I want to essentially spectate for a moment. It would be very helpful if there could be a keybind (or another setting for the already-existing "PRESS NUM[ENTER] TO LOOK FIRST PERSON") that allows us to orbit players in third person, making spectating so much easier. Implementation could be ripped from EGSpectator.

Music playlist. We now have music end eventhandler.
Ability to define a playlist of songs, it'll switch to next at MusicStopped.

You can edit it by double clicking on the placed module, already played and currently playing songs are greyed out and can't be edited.
You have buttons to reorder (move selected song up/down), remove song from playlist.

if you delete the module while it was playing it'll either stop music, or stop after current song?

Btw as a sort of addition to what Dedmen said, an option to loop songs in the current music module and/or the new proposed playlist module
