Bullet Trajectory
Assigned, NormalPublic

Description

The bullets exit from the muzzle of the gun then makes a 45 degree bend to aim at the center of the cross hair, instead of coming straight out of the muzzle of the gun. This allows the player to quickly raise the weapon and shoot at targets without the gun being pointed at the target. The bullets should always exit straight out of the muzzle of the gun in a realistic manner, with an exception to how previous Arma games zero their guns. Having the muzzle of the gun being where the bullets are directed, will mitigate the problem of having too much of an advantage when using a cross hair, and will maximize the fairness, realism and immersion of a gunfight.

The new method of allowing the bullets to bend towards the middle of the screen allows players to shoot around corners if you free look pointing the tip of the gun out of the corner. The new system will also be problematic for people who use Track IR or VR headsets for head movement the problem being that there is never a center of the screen for those users. Track IR is allowed in Arma 2 and Arma 3 and should stay that way. Track IR was also allowed in the early stages of Dayz Standalone.

This change absolutely needs to be reverted. Dayz is supposed to aim for realism and this is anything but. Hip fire worked just fine long before the floating crosshair was added, you got a general idea where your gun was facing and it worked fine in close ranged combat. If you want more accurate firing you should have to catch your breath or ADS.

I agree. The bullets going where you look instead of where the gun is pointed is not a good concept for DayZ. For me this game is about immersion and a large part of that is attention to detail. I'd rather accidently shoot myself in the foot because I pulled the trigger while walking than having bullets magically travel to the center of the screen.

If you want the game to feel intuitive and authentic then some abstract concept like the center of the screen shouldn't have an effect on gameplay like that.

I agree with the criticism here. One major reason that DayZ became popular is because it was built on a military simulator with excellent combat. Changing this now cheapens the experience for new players and forces retrograde design on those of us that paid to receive a polished version of the game we already enjoyed.

I also agree with the criticism. The new character model feels really nice and natural. The "shoot the bullets from the center of the screen" seems like an arbitrary decision after all the changes to better connect the player with the character.

I totally agree.

+1 (but also with no crosshair ... or HUD)

Yes please revert it. Chasing a moving crosshair SHOULD be annoying and unpredictable if you shooting from the hip or while moving. Thats the reason to encourage more use of ADS.

I disagree. Return the bullet physics but keep the static crosshair. If you want to see your sway and shoot accurately then aim down sights. A static crosshair is more than good enough for shooting in close quarters. The moving one made it much too accurate.

Static crosshair ?

Let's just turn it off and let people learn how to use guns properly in DayZ?

Ive seen it but the problem isn't the crosshair its the new bullet physics and how it always goes to the center of the screen. If the bullet came from the barrel like it always has the dot would be useless unless in close quarters. Take earlier updates for example when we had the dot crosshair.

I agree. This importance of this can not be stated enough. This is critical to Dayz. Bullet spread and barrel direction mechanics should not be removed. You will seriously undermine your faithful player base and destroy a game-defining part of Dayz as a whole. Realistic simulation is why we are here. Realistic simulation is why people will want to buy the game in future.

I would also prefer no HUD or crosshair but I think that is as likely as the total removal of 3rd person so instead I'd say my suggestion is a good middle ground.

I'd like to see HUDs work the same way as 1PP and 3PP

As a server configuration

As a server I can force 1PP or I can allow client opted 1PP as part of a 3PP configuration

As a server I can force NoHUD or I can allow client opted NOHUD as part of a HUDded configuration

That would mean that as a NOHUD server all the guests on it would be on a level playing field (no crosshair)

For me the most important part is that the physical postion of the gun in the game world decides where the bullet is going, not some crosshair/HUD hocus pocus or the direction the player is looking. Everything else can be tweeked, right? I just want the fundation to be as realistic as you would expect from DayZ.

I can understand where you are coming from but the accuracy the old crosshair gave can't be ignored. There is no point fixing one without also fixing the other.

If your gun accuracy isnt correct and you have a massive crosshair on the screen, then all immersion And the whole reason i play this game is gone. Please fix this!

I just meant that for me, this is the groundwork and the premise on which the other systems should be build on. If the gun fired the moment you press the button in the direction it is pointed, many of those quick shots like those in the video would already not be possible. Then you can think about how you make "hip firing" not too accurate. A little sway and enough recoil might already do the trick.

I can't believe this is a thing after all these years. Please don't leave it like this, bullets should follow the guns direction.

I agree 100%.

Leave it how it was and do not change it to this!
