Punching damage fixes helmets. Since I believe I took zombie hits between the helmet being damaged, and noticing the "pristine" status, I think that's what triggers the bug.
Probably related if not exactly the same as #7958
Still happening in 114926.
Confirming this just happened to me on experimental. Painted M4, all attachments dissapeared. I did have a full inventory at the time.

First, many thanks to Accolyte for the hard work of looking over the tracker. It was direly needed and I realize it's a thankless job.
However, I think there has been a mistake: A lot of bug reports have been closed as duplicate of this one, which is wrong (#7927 #7950 #7828 etc).
The current build has an issue where the "stuffed" status never dissapears, even after you are no longer stuffed. This has been acknowledged by rocket (https://twitter.com/Rocket2guns/statuses/431219001172455424). That's a bug.
This report relates to the apparently conflicting messages of being both stuffed and starving. This is a design issue (confusing naming of stomach vs hunger vs energy levels), not a bug per se, and not related to the sticky stuffed status.
