Yes, Kid18120, there is an overlay that shows GPU temp while I'm in game. I disabled the overlay, but the problem still exists. This overlay part of Precision X had info showing it was part of RivaTuner Statistics Server. I was looking for a way to disable this entire portion, but couldn't find any.

Precision X checks for updates weekly, and notifies when an update is available. While poking around I noticed it had last checked on April 4, 2013. I went to EVGA and manually checked for an update and found that one had been released on April 5, 2013. The newest version of Precision X is now v4.1.0. I read the release notes and one of the things is mentions is this version separates the RivaTuner Statistics app built in, and allows you to install that separately if you wish.

I updated Precision X to v4.1.0 and did NOT install the RivaTuner portion that had been separated. Now the game loads fine with fraps and precision X both running. The problem is now completely resolved.

I couldn't tell this was a problem with other programs as these other programs worked fine with all of my other games.

My thanks to all who assisted with this problem, and helped steer me to the solution. It's very much appreciated.

I'll check bindings in Fraps. I use nod32 antivirus by eset. It automatically goes into game mode whenever any game is loaded. I have collected the data asked for and will try to upload.

I included the dxdiag with the RPT files in the uploaded file. I could not upload the mission cache as I received an error 413 request entity too large. However, this rar was only around 1100kb

I added the -nobenchmark command line option as instructed. This resolved the issue of pressing both the SHIFT and W (to run) while running Fraps. I am now able to play the showcase as expected. (This issue resolved. Thank you.)

I still get the black screen hang described if I start the game with fraps currently running. In order to run Fraps with the game I have to start the game first, without fraps running, then alt-tab out and start fraps, then go back to game.

I discovered this only happens if I'm running EVGA's Precision X companion program. This program (from EVGA, the manufacturer of the video card) adjusts GPU fan speed according to temp, among other things. If I close out Precision X the game will start normally with fraps loaded. So, the game starts normally if loaded with fraps alone, or Precision X alone, but if both Precision X and Fraps are loaded the game hangs with the black screen.

I've played with settings in Precision X, but nothing has resolved the problem.

Starting Precision X puts two icons in the tray. EVGA Precision X v4.0.0 and EVGA On-Screen Display Server v4.5.0. closing Precision X removes both icons.

With game and fraps both loaded. Pressing W to move character works fine. When you try to make him run by holding the W down and pressing the left SHIFT key the game stops. (appears frozen as no keys or controls work) Game is actually still working, but it's like the control has minimized to something else. If I alt-Tab out, close fraps, then return to game the game will play as it should.

Something happens when both the W and Shift are both depressed at once. The game stays on the screen with sound, ocean moving, but none of the keys on the keyboard work except to alt-tab out or CTRL ALT DEL. You can not get control back with fraps running in the tray. You have to close fraps to regain control of the game.
