Recoil is one thing, ARMA III has absolutely absurd muzzle climb. With anything in 5.56, or 5.45 you should be able to dump a mag with less than an inch of muzzle rise in any shooting position. 7.62x39 again less than an inch of muzzle rise. I have no comment on the obscure case less calibers, however stil lthink their recoil is too high. the only one that's right IMHO is the M14 7.62x51. Please everyone saying "it's realism hurr durr", shut the hell up if you've never fired a real gun.
