This might be doable for a future DLC or something like that, but for now, I think they should focus on their area of gameplay and we can just play Kerbal to get our outer space pants wet.

This either sounds like, Take on: Space or a major DLC.
Would be cool, but the current gameplay is not focused on this area and well, we have a perfectly good game called Kerbal Space program that adresses this part of space exploration. Implementing said idea would probably take as much manpower as already spent making this game.

That suggests that the game runs as an 32bit executable and not 64bit. (that would limit it to around 3,5-4GB)

Have you tried turning up the graphic settings from "1980 moon lander mode" to max? Might just be a LoD problem if running on low.

Looks good from what I can tell, but can't deny there might be a small gap.
