Firing from vehicles is too limited in all of the vehicles.
New, WishlistPublic

Description

While playing around with that feature, I realised, that the aiming from the bench of the choppers or seats from the other vehicles is too limited.

I know, that you are strapped to the chopper but that doesn't mean, that you can't aim to the sides, straight up and down. It should be possible to shoot straight up-, down-, and sidewards in the WY-55 Hellcat.

The same for the Hummingbird. The soldier is not able to shoot straight downwards. In real life you are able to lean your upper body a little bit so you won't shoot in your own foot.

If you sit in the Assault Boat on the left side, you only can aim your weapon to the front, but not the right side (same from the right side). If there is an enemy near the boat (1m) in the water, you can't shoot him because of limitation.

Please think about that limitation and give us a little bit more possibilities. Every passenger should pay attention to not shoot the teammates in the vehicle or himself.

As a military simulator, you should have ultimate control of where you fire if you want. For higher difficulty missions, if you shoot your own vehicle, you suffer the consequences. At the very least there should be like a 10 degree over lap on all boundaries.

But BIS also needs to think about AI. If there wasn't any restrictions AI would likely shoot their own vehicle. But if they can add different restrictions for AI and players then that would be cool.

In the back of a truck, a very great limitations(

@mickeymen: Even the limitation in the back of trucks is too limited. If there is an enemy standing close to the back of a truck (HEMTT), you can't aim your gun downwards because of limitation.

Yes, I saw it! Of course, this requires correction

Agree that the "fire sectors" covered are too limiting. Also think for the off road and trucks that these are facing rearwards in all positions seems wrong. Surely if you can move to the position behind the cab facing forwards (and possibly standing) would be better?

on the Offroad too you just can aim around 45°, sad that you cant turn around on the spot, face towards the front and shoot frontwards.

But at the moment it feels like you're glued onto the Vehicle and the only Body Part that you can move is your Torso. It really feels quite static when it should feel more dynamic.

Yes, at the moment you are glued to vehicle through proxy system. Aiming will always be limited to front arc, can be lower or bigger depending on particular slot. We also used turnin/turnout to give player option to change the orientation of his character, but there is as much as we can do.
We have to avoid unnatural rotation of upper body and clipping through vehicle geometry, so what you see now (Offroad being best example) is the maximum freedom we can allow for passengers, considering our current engine capabilities.

It feels very weird with Track IR at the moment - if you move your gun sight far to the left or right, you cannot turn your head any further (much more limited than normal head movement). Is it possible to rectify that at least?

It feels particularly odd because your gun and head move differently than they normally do - at the edge of your view when firing from vehicles your head movement feels more like a 'camera' than normal, and the gun seems to move independently. It doesn't feel like a head connected to a body.

@ColonelMolerat

I recommend you to create or look for a similiar ticket for that TrackIR problem, so the developers may get attention of it.
