Random GPU flactuation to 99% causing crash
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Random crushes during gameplay, main menu or while loading mission files. My video card's GPU usage fluctuates in unstable manner sometime ranging from 16% to 40% or 30% to 99%. Upon reaching 99% game crushes giving out error of "Display driver stopped working." I am using latest nvidia driver (326.41) on GTX660Ti. Monitoring hardware used (MSI Afterburner).
I also tried to bump up my core voltage, memory voltage and aux voltage to max, did not affect the issue. Sometimes I am able to play the game for approx 30 min until next sudden crash, it doesn't seem to occur with certain pattern. My game keeps stable on 60 fps and it doesn't seem to drop before crash. I tried to tweak/disable every graphic setting, doesn't seem to affect the issue. Had no similar issues with other games. {F21513} {F21514}

main menu, in-game online or not does not matter. I am also not sure if my GPU usage directly affects the crash, but it does look like it.

Additional Information

Tested using ARMA 3 beta and ARMA 3 Beta Dev, issue still not fixed.
Was able to get crash info today, usually doesn't even pop up.

Does it happen with stable drivers? You seem to use beta drivers. 320.49 are latest stable drivers.

yes, I reverted back to stable drivers, still get the same crash.

We need files from this folder for solve your problem. C:\Users\<Name>\AppData\Local\Arma 3\
Can you upload somewhere in winrar package please?
When package will be smaller than 2,097k, so you can attach here. When package will be bigger, please use some free sharing service and post link here. Thank you.

Here is the rar file you requested sir(upload will end in 7 days)

Alright I feel that I am near the problem. Today I found that crashes seem to happen more often with higher resolution setting like 1920x1080

This is my monitor info http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4614927

Although it seems that running on the lower resolution decreases repetitivity of the crashes it seems that there are 2 different ones. I'm not really sure what causes it by this point.

I have had issues with ARMA 3 crashing when the game is set to Ultra. No other game crashes my drivers. This was even with the 13.4 Drivers. The 13.8 Beta drivers crashes A LOT more it even has BSOD my PC plenty of times but gives better performance due to the pacing feature for crossfire support. I lowered my graphic settings and now I do not get any issues with crashes.

Here is a .zip file of my "%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Arma 3\" folder

Thanks sticky I tried your arma 3 folder and lowered my settings to a minimum, my game still crashes giving out same error. Display drivers stopped working and have recovered and yes I haven't experienced things like that with other games. Played Crysis series, Metro last light, Planetside 2 and many other graphically intensive games with no problems.

Recently bought SSD and reinstalled windows on it, downloaded arma3 again and tried to play, as soon as I loaded to main menu crashed.

Starting to see random crashes myself lately. I'm noticing I'm generally in the map when they happen. Got my first blue screen (BSOD) just now.

Is you GPU overclocked? I noticed major instability with high clock speed.

Nothing overclocked here. Lowest settings using a core i7 920 and ati 6850. No mods etc...

I may need to start a new issue because I'm not completely sure mine is GPU related.

Run memtest86 and check for bad RAM.

game already live, are you even working on this issue? because I can't play at all, did I just wasted my money?

Exactly same problem I have. Bought game since first day alpha and all versions had same crashes. Tried posting in few other similar crash tickets my logs and dxdiag file - no changes whatsoever.

Intel i7 2600K CPU
Nvidia GTX 680 GPU
tested all GPU drivers since Arma Alpha, few times reinstalled windows.

E.g. this happens since since day 1 till latest dev version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHdgRUJJz4w

are you guys working on this or what? This issue prevented me from playing game sicne it came out, still cant and it's first october!

to sai0myst: Could you please upload crashdumps from actual version? Thank you very much.

to rimas123: Other DX11 games work correctly? This looks like hw issue with your graphic card. I saw lot of graphic artefacts on your video.

Other DX11 games works perfectly. Artifacts are only on Arma III. Those specific artifacts are always on that showcase exactly at same place before showing car. Also sometimes there are some minor visual artifacts during other showcases or missions. When game crashes during other showcases (not vehicle) no artifacts appears before crash.

P.S. DX11 games I played without problems - Crysis 3, Civilization 5, BioShock Infinite, Far Cry 3
