Radio protocol: Directions are based on world north instead of group heading
Reviewed, LowPublic

Description

When units call out directions the direction is based on world north instead of group heading. For example, if the group has been running south for an hour, then an enemy is spotted north, they'll say "Front" instead of "Back".

Same goes for ordering moves. If you've been heading south for an hour, and then order them to move left (east), he'll say "Move right".

In fact, this applies to anything that has a direction. Whether spotting targets, ordering moves, or ordering targets, they'll say "Front" if the target is north, "Left" if they're west, etc. instead of relative to the group heading.

This makes it extremely confusing with AI, or without mics in multiplayer.

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Add an infantry group in the editor, heading east (X direction).
  2. Preview and run east for at least 30 seconds.
  3. Stop, look west (back) and order any unit to move about 100 meters west. He'll say "Move left" instead of "Move back" because it's west.
Additional Information

Tested on both stable and dev.
Reverted to v1.80 and directions correctly are relative to the group heading there.

This issue was processed by our team and will be looked into. We thank you for your feedback.

Please keep the issue monitored to see when it is fixed.

Just FYI. It seems to be more complicated than just left and back being reversed. Units only seem to rarely say the correct direction.

You can run forward for several hundred meters and he still says left or right or back or whatever.

Updated this because I've noticed that it's based on the world north instead of group heading, making it confusing as all hell.

Repro mission

Run to the waypoint, then turn around and spot the enemy.

The green arrow over the player's head shows the groups current heading.
The enemy will be called out "Front" instead of back, because he's north.

Nope. Not other than one of the devs on the Discord said that "it might get fixed". Which seems to be the general consensus on broken features. High prone, which is like a core feature (not to say that this issue isn't pretty core too), hasn't worked for years, along with a lot of other "in your face" issues in this game.

@MulleDK19 - it is fixed in internal exe since yesterday, it's still being tested & not released to public devbranch though and thats the reason why this ticket is still open.
