I was attacked by 3 groups of wolves in about half an hour. Each time I didn't hear a single wolf howl, only the sound of wolves attacking when they were already on me.

Just play Dayz and go near wolf spawns.

Not the first time it happens to me, no matter on which server I play. Same for buddies who play the game. Normally it happens from time to time, but in the case described : 3 times in a row.
