1.20 Eye Zoom Feedback
Acknowledged, NormalPublic

Description

Hey guys, I wanted to share some thoughts on the new changes to eye zoom with 1.20

I think this change is great, it makes sense realistically and it is also a better balance this way.

However, it feels a bit broken at the moment. To be clear, the feature isn't actually broken, it just feels kinda janky sometimes, let me explain :

If you are sprinting and zooming with your eyes, you obviously have a low level of zoom, if you were to now change directions quite suddenly with your mouse, for example flick your hand around to make the character do a 180 turn or something similar, the character inertia in the game causes you to be pulled out of your sprint for a brief moment, and instead go into a "walk" stance as you are turning.

What this causes with the eye zoom is that the zoom will flick in and out between "full zoom" and "sprint zoom" when you make certain character movements.

This also happens just in general when you switch between jogging and sprinting if you are continuing to hold the zoom button, for example if you are running out of stamina often, the zoom is very sudden and having the zoom coming on and off the screen quickly, and constantly. It just feels a bit jarring...I think maybe the speed of the zoom coming in / out could be slowed down to help? I'm not really sure what the best solution is

TLDR: Great idea, but...These sudden changes to zoom on the screen in certain movements feel very jarring and janky. If you guys have some kind of solution to this, then in my opinion this feature becomes perfect.

P.S. Loving the update, keep up the good work....don't listen to twitch chat ;)

Event Timeline

To be honest I hate this feature for all the reasons you listed, but what confuses me even more is that the implementation of it doesn't even line up with their reasoning, they say that it was added because it's unrealistic to focus on something while sprinting that fast, yet it also applies when I'm crouch sprinting at the speed of a snail.

I've made a very similar comment in another ticket.
100% agree. Great idea, needs a little work.

i'd have thought increased head bob in zoom when sprinting or crouch running would be more effective and immersive

I think you just need to get used to it with time. It does look junky sometimes when your in zoom and running out of stamina and then suddenly zoom in. But in general the feature is really nice. Maybe and swith on/off option to the server config files if there's no other good for all solution

@lemmac Increased head bob would be great in dayz I agree
