Add multichannel audio
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The Audio settings have only "Stereo processing mode" option with two values "Headphones" and "Speakers". Both render only Stereo output.

Please add multichannel audio outputs (5.1, 7.1, Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos for Headphones, DTS), so it is possible to have a better positional sounds.

In version 0.9.5.66 I noticed that "Speakers" renders now a 7.1 audio. ✅

However seeing native support for Sonic, Atmos and DTS would be nice.

Unfortunately there is a small bug with 7.1 configuration.
The Surround (side) channels are swapped with Rear channels.

When testing in windows the channel order is following:
FL FR FC LFE BL BR SL SR
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/audio/images/spkrcfg4.png

When testing in game the last pair is swapped:
FL FR FC LFE SL SR BL BR (INCORRECT!)
This causes problems with proper sound positioning.
