Low fps in dayz on AMD
New, NormalPublic

Description

Hello

I playing the only one game DAYZ STANDALONE - and I can't fully enjoy the game because instead 80-120 fps i see 40-50 fps - and wild lags..

Wildest lags in in big cities, drawdowns in fps, lack of fps - at least minus 50 fps - no smoothness in game I see 40-50 fps in game this on rx 5700 xt and this very very bad =(
This problem same way there is and on RX 6000 series on reviews others people

I made a video test of this problem
this problem is almost 2 years old

I was sure that the problem was with the video driver
and i did a test performance 40-50 fps

I contacted amd with this problem I described everything in detail - i said that the problem with your driver is that it reduces FPS in dayz
what AMD did they answer me - there is no any issue with our driver with Dayz games.. and advised me to contact the game developer

Please fix DayZ for AMD

I also have rx 5700 xt and don't have any problems with fps at all on new driver. Maybe its some problem with windows or configuration.

Windows has been reinstalled in 2 years many times so it's not about Windows or some kind of component

and again this problem is not only with me there are other reviews from other people and the same performance as mine even on 6000 rx series

+ i wrote to dayz mail and they answered me developers are aware of this issue and they do their best to fix it ASAP.

but I still do not understand how long to wait fixes for this poor performance

P.S. you say that you have the same card as me do the same test in the same place as me and record it on video and upload the video here and we'll see the performance it will be interesting to see

If someone has the same problem on AMD lags in cities and towns, upload a video here - let the developers see
and turn to this two year old unsolvable problem
and fix it

Below is two videos recorded at the same spot.

  • only clean install of 20.4.2 driver was done between videos
  • I've tested several versions after 20.4.2
  • fps drops on both but not as badly with older driver
  • GPU and power usage drops a lot more with newer driver
  • GPU frequency also drops to ~1100Mhz with newer driver but I guess recording keeps it up in the video
  • not server related, happens on any server
  • happens around big cities when looking to certain direction, never in forests

Hardware:
Ryzen 5 3600 CPU
MSI Mortar B550 motherboard
MSI RX 5600 XT graphics card

20.4.2 was the best last driver and there were no lags in the cities - but the old driver with its minuses and it makes no sense to use it now, and everything that comes after 20.4.2 suffers from lags to this day - I checked each driver after 20.4.2 and they all lag - this is a very long problem that does not solve in any way, but I still hope that it will be "fixed soon"

and yes, lags not only in electro - lags everywhere in a large city and settlements and no matter what kind of server it is

I didn't mean we all should use old drivers. What I tried to illustrate is that "something" happened after 20.4.2. Hopefully those who can fix it (I can't) will take a look. In my simple mind mind this should be doable. Only thing that changes is the driver.

Well, personally, I've been waiting for this fix for 2 years already ..
I think another 2 years need to wait

I would like to ask if you have noticed bad graphics in dayz?

Specifically, this is a poor display of grass, trees, bushes as if they are in pixels and shine very often I notice this even though the settings are the highest and the grass, bushes, trees give off pixels and it turns out some kind of porridge + shadows flicker
you run through the forest and low shadows around you flicker

I don't know exactly what you mean but sound a bit like foliage smoothing and I turn it off.

I don't know exactly what you mean but sound a bit like foliage smoothing and I turn it off.

I mean that grass textures of trees and bushes with high smoothness can show pixels - anti-aliasing does not work well for foliage, grass, and trees, so I see pixels on them

but you turn off anti-aliasing, it means you won't understand what I mean
and I have no idea how you can play with anti-aliasing turned off or plant anti-aliasing turned off
the graphics become very bad on the eye and the grass, trees, bushes turn into mush however, as with the included...

Here screenshotted photo looks kinda fine, but in-game is just horrible.

But if you download a screenshot and watch it through a paint, you can see bad pixel graphics

20.4.2 is the best driver so far for DayZ on 5700 series drivers. I too have installed and uninstalled many drivers and hands down 20.4.2 is the most playable in DayZ. GPU usage is still all over the place and FPS, but it is the most playable. From what I read, AMD has said that this is a DayZ issue and not a driver issue. Since the new 6000 series GPUs have the same issue, I am believing AMD.

Read Here: https://www.reddit.com/r/AMDHelp/comments/mjvw9y/rx_5700_dayz_low_fps_stuttering_freezing_low_gpu/

Even the 6700 series GPUs have this issue: Read Here https://community.amd.com/t5/graphics/very-low-fps-in-game-dayz-standalone-on-graphic-card-rx-6800/td-p/437979

I made similar test I posted earlier. This time I was looking at a big base in cherno and with 21.9.1 fps dipped as low as 20-25 (unplayable) whereas 20.4.2 gave me 50-60 (tolerable). When looking at the other direction fps was 80-90 on both.

This test was done with a different motherboard (swapped due other reasons) and with GPU repasted and thermal pads checked. Thermals are fine, GPU 70C, Junction 85C, VRM 75C and MEM ~90 after 1 hour stress test with Unigine Superposition. CPU is at 65-70C so I doubt the system is throttling (again, 20.4.2 works fine).

Lowering video details brings fps to tolerable level, but it doesn't change the fact that older driver performs much better. AMD released 21.9.2 but it didn't change anything.

I also opened support ticket to AMD. Let's see if I get any meaningful answer.

20.4.2 is so old that it no longer works on my rx 5700 xt, so I can forget about 20.4.2

Dayz devs really need to find a solution to the low fps and latency issues in DayZ with AMD so that the RX 5000 and 6000 series finally deliver the required FPS without lag! but considering how long I've been with this problem it will take a long time and what worse, they just never fix it

even in your first video you can see how awful the grass and trees look when you turn on plant smoothing

eyes hurt from such graphics - there is no such thing on nvidia and everything is perfect there

Issue has been acknowledged, they are looking into it.

Hopefully GPU market settles too, so I can finally upgrade my RX580 for something newer.

I already and did not expect an answer to my topic on the dayz forum

I thought this topic was about AMD GPU performance in DayZ and not about my game settings? Developers even acknowledged the problem and I got decent answer from AMD so IMO your attitude doesn't help much here.

No, I won't comment more on this so let your steam out somewhere else. Thanks.

yes this topic is about dayz performance but this does not prevent me from paying attention to the defects in the graphics, but if this hurts you so much, then sorry I will not mention the graphics here anymore

Hello developers, when is it planned to fix this problem?

Experiencing the same on my RX 6900XT. Horrible GPU utilization and frames dropping way down below the 60fps mark. My old RX 5700XT worked just fine, and so does an RX 580 I've sitting around. It seems to be that the new Navi architecture does not play well with the game's engine. Ought to fix it before new Arma drops with the same issue which would be a disaster.

I've talked to some guy on twitch stream with 6900XT (? not sure which one exactly, but it was 6000 series).
Asked him if everything runs fine for him, he said yeah.

So clearly some people have issues with DayZ, some don't.

Anyone tried wiping their system fully and installing GPU drivers and DayZ only to see if the issue persists?
Just asking, it's not the solution, but maybe it might be worth a shot...

Hello,

i have the same problems with a 6800xt and a Ryzen7 5800x. Big Cities are the problem mostly in Livonia @ Topolin.

Alex, although GPU usage is still low on my end on my 5700xt, make sure to use 20.4.2 driver from AMD. Also, make sure to uninstall the current driver using DDU, in safe mode. Sometime windows will install a driver if you are connected to the internet, so when you uninstall, disconnect or unplug your internet before you restart to reinstall the 20.4.2 driver. I am getting better FPS everywhere and 200+ FPS running through the fields next to VMC.

This issue is already two years old and during this time I have reinstalled the system, game, drivers many times
it doesn't help at all.

And the fact that someone says that everything is in order - he just thinks that it should be so, or he simply has nothing to compare, and considers it the norm, it simply cannot be that someone has this problem, but someone does not have it on identical video cards
at the moment this problem is 100% on 5000 and 6000 video cards

I will not even look towards 20.4.2 because this driver is outdated for a long time and does not work well

fixed dayz low performance and lags for amd !!!!!!!!! HURRAH!!!!!!
DRIVER VERSION 21.11.3

i thought i could never wait for it...

Just as @Alexmsk said, driver update that should fix the issue. I wasn't affected by this issue, but have fun guys :)

Fix confirmed. No ~50fps dips in big cities anymore.
