Incorrect "initSpeedMultiplier" on SKS, CR527 and Pioneer rifles (1.12 Exp)
Assigned, NormalPublic

Description

These rifles have an enormous 1.5x velocity increase from the regular initSpeed. This is not even possible in real life with these rounds from these barrel lengths, if you increased the speed 50% in real life, your 5.56 would suddenly be as powerful as a .308 because:

KE=1/2mv^2
therefore 1.5x the velocity = 2.25x the kinetic energy.

It is making unrealistic time of flights and bullet drop, as well as highly inconsistent damage drop to other weapons firing same rounds and so the ballistics no longer have any authentic basis. Depending on what weapon the standard initSpeed and typicalSpeed is based on, authentic values for these rifles are approximately:

1.06x for Pioneer (19" barrel compared to 14.5" M4A1)
1.03x for Pioneer (19" barrel compared to 16.3" AK-101)
1.02x for CR527 (18.5" barrel compared to 16.3" AKM)

Compare to real figures for 5.56 and 7.62x39 rounds from different weapons:

a 1.07x increase for 20" M16A2 compared to 14.5" M4 Carbine
a 1.04x increase for 23.2" RPK compared to 16.3" AKM

By contrast the initSpeedMultiplier on the Repeater rifle is reasonably correct. Winchester factory figures show a 1.48x increase firing the same .357 ammunition in a 4" revolver vs a 20" rifle.

(X3575P 158 grain .357 Magnum jacketed soft point, 1235 feet per second in 4" vented test barrel, 1830 feet per second in 20" solid test barrel).

Thanks Gews, well formulated!

This initSpeedMultiplier is also on the SKS, apparently. Real life, only 5% faster. In DayZ, 50% faster. Is this a typo maybe?

AKM 7.62x39mm stops one-shotting at only 20 m.
SKS 7.62x39mm still one-shots over 300 m.

There's zero authenticity there.

repping for our man Gews here, doing gods work

Thank you Gews! @Geez guys please acknowledge this issue while 1.12 is still in experimental. These numbers should not be allowed to slip into stable...

Hello everyone.
There have been deliberate changes to these values, however, they are not final and are still subjects to tweaking and balancing.

Regards,
Geez

Thank you Geez, can you answer if they were changed with the update yesterday, or are they still 1.5x?

Since recent changes to these numbers, there seems to be a typo in airFriction of 7.62x54mmR (Bullet_764x54). Too many zeroes.

It's -0.0001, where it was probably meant to be -0.001.

-0.0001 = killing range (100 dmg) well over 5000 metres
-0.001 = killing range over 550 metres

For comparison in 1.11 killing range is ~500 m and in early 1.12 it was ~400 m.

Thank you for letting us Gews.
We are going to fix this as soon as possible.

Hello again.
This has been resolved on the latest experimental.
