Game completely freezes and forces a hard-restart of computer
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

About once a day my game will freeze completely (0 FPS) and will prevent me from tabbing out from it. If I press alt-tab the windows graphics for the alt-tab frame will show but if I select any window Arma goes back to being on top regardless. As such it is impossible to tab out or quit Arma. I've tried waiting several minutes and that doesn't help, I've tried opening the task manager to kill the process but Arma will always be on top so I can't interact with it. The only solution is hard-restart my computer.

I have however found a sort-of workaround by creating my own program which I run in the background that listens for keypresses F9+F10+F11+F12 all being pressed, and if they are pressed it will perform a kill on the arma3_x64.exe process. This will make Arma close and a window will pop up saying that Arma crashed asking me if I want to create a troubleshoot report. This report is attached.

Additional Information

I have noticed that the frequency of the freezes goes up if I alt-tab. Every time I tab out or in there is a higher chance of the freeze to happen, but it does still happen during normal gameplay without tabbing as well.

In my case, I disabled the in-game overlay of NVIDIA GEFORCE experience. No more crash since then. 100% crash before, just striking a CTRL or ALT key just after the pop-up overlay. (For Arma or Squad as well).

I only have Shadowplay (nowadays named "Instant Replay") enabled, and no other "overlay", but I'll try disabling it when I get time and see if it makes any difference.

Instead of a Hard-Restart of the system, try hitting WinKey+Tab and create a new Desktop to kill the Arma3.exe process.

I seems to me there is no more problem since windows or nvidia last update (I can't say).
