BUG: AT AI does not fire rocket at ordered / targeted vehicle and fires on another vehicle

Description

This is a follow-up to a task that was thought resolved, but it is NOT at all resolved.
Opening a Subtask is, I think, the way to re-open the issue.

I have the exact same bug as the previous task message (same mission: single player official campaign, Bingo Fuel in The East Wind).

  • I ask my AT rifleman to target the GMG Ifrit about 10 m down a slope.
  • Nicolo decides to fire his RPG-42 on a tank rather far away on a hill.
  • We are spotted and killed a second later (Grenade machine guns are uber deadly).

Does this happen in other situations, Zeus, editor or in multi-player, I have not checked. I can only presume the AI would do the same mistake in many other similar situations.

I selected major (severity) for the following reasons :

  • it leads to the imminent total death of you and your squad a second later ;
  • it is a bug, not a quality-of-life issue ;
  • Squad AI commanding is already hard enough, quirky and tedious.

Yes I am employed by BI and I am trying to figure out if there indeed is a problem with the AI. Also If you look at my profile there is a hint that points towards it. ;)

Cool, I will gladly conduct tests in the editor (without any mods just to be sure) for this issue (set three tanks: 2 in LOS, 1 targeted but out of sight and command an AT soldier) and also for the other one issue I also posted recently (AI not evading their exploding vehicle).

I was able to recreate it but it is not completely 100% you need to do it in a specific way. Either way ticket created and we will see what can be done.

My guess is it occurs when the AT soldier does not have LOS on the armor that should be targeted. It probably then becomes a general Engage order and the AI fires at the first armor it sees.

I tested this issue and it seems to be fixed in the game. Closing.
