I can confirm it's the same issue with firepit.
Also if trying to heat canned food for keeping your jacket warm they also gets ruined in a flash.

I too can confirm this. Tried today with cans and meat. Ruined it all

I also Confirm this. Used boar steak, went from Pristine - Ruined. Although mine was used in a plain firepit.

This is not a bug. you need either cooking tripod + pot (with meat in it) + fire or 8 stones + pot (with meat in it) + fire.

Gabe..

We have tried furnaces, cooking pots, frying pans, directly on fires. it dosent do any difference at all. Besides most of the times players cant even PUT meat in the pot. It just goes red and denys it.

If you have a way to do it you know works, post a picture series or a small video of it.

And if it is so that we need to use less primetive methods for grilling our meat now, that is buged aswell so yeah

Gabe, this is definitely a bug. I've tried it all - fireplace, furnace, tripod, cooking pot, frying pan. You can't put anything in the pot/pan and whatever is put in the fireplace gets ruined.

Sorry for being unclear. Once you have the pot attached to the fireplace (via tripod or 8 stones) right click it and select "view contents" then add the meat or can to the pot inventory. If the fire has enough heat (you now need to add fuel to it) you will see the items in the pot get a red background and meat will become cooked in 1-2 minutes.

I have successfully cooked meat in .53. NOT A BUG. (fish fillets are bugged however) Putting something in the fire inventory is like sticking it in the burning wood. Of course it will be ruined.

you cant put anything in the pot while it is in your hands/inventory/attached to the fire -- you have to place the pot on the ground then tab over it to add stuff. I dont know about the frying pan at all, ive only messed with cooking in the pots.

The real clown, that would explain it all. The issue was not ruining food, the issue was that many people couldn't put anything inside the pot.

I managed to put fish fillets in the frying pan and stick it to the furnace, but it didn't cook although I kept feeding it with wood. But Gabe says fish is bugged... Will test further on other animals.

Gabe, if this is true (i dont think your are lying just in semi shock :P) there really should be function allowing us to sharpen a stick and grill meat on it directly on fire pits. If they want ppl to use cooking instead of just eating cans it shouldent be that hard. Besides pots and pans take alot of space in our backpacks.

On a 1st-person-only server I could construct an oven and cook different meat (didn't try fish) in a pot. Actualy it was possible to carry a pot filled with cooked meat in your backpack.

Today I tried the same on a 3rd-person server. Building the oven itself wasn't a problem but putting meat into the pot didn't work out.

So there's still something to report here - putting meat into pots should be easier after all, i.e. should work like any other similar action with First Aid Kits, etc.

Further, I can confirm we still have the fish problem.

Further, maybe the devs could get around to fix the gas stove bug! :)

Gabe, when you mentioned fish, did you fish it in 0.53? Pre-wipe fish sure doesn't cook.

Frying pans don't work.

You can open your cooking pot in your inventory and if there is a steak there, you can 'switch' (blue icon) a steak in your backpack for the one in. However, the one going in simply disappears (you retrieve the one switched for).

Cooking on low pop server in 1st person, persistiens off. Meat from cow, deer, boars is pristine (not raw) at the time you skin the animal. So you can eat it right away. By making a fireplace/owen with 8 stones and having a cooking pot, I was able to cook the meat for the first time. I put water in the pot, and select "view content" on cooking pot, then I was able to put the meat in, from backpack to pot. However a can off Beans did not work !! . Edit: picture 2.. cans can not be cooked.

Everything is not warmed up in a fireplace or owen..tried with a lot of things..

You should attach tripod to the fireplace, then full cooking pot with meat on the ground, then attach the pot to the fireplace.

UPDATE: Thank you everyone for this feedback. After 6 days of searching I was able to find a pot. I created a fireplace added the cooking tripod, placed contents in the pot by viewing contents, added the pot to the fire and was able to cook the meat.
Now, the only question I have is what is the purpose of the fireplace slots if they just ruin things? You can store anything in there until you light the fire. Like a mini tent.

Thank you for your report Trigonator.
Currently to cook meat in fireplace you are required to have cooking tripod and pot attached. For furnace, just the pot should be enough. As for the inventory slots the fireplace mechanics are still WIP and will be worked upon in future still.
